The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 is a very good printer for home and student use thanks to its quality build, two input trays that are both expandable to hold legal-size paper, impressive scanning features, and connectivity options. The display screen is not only crisp and viewable from most angles, but you can also view instructional videos regarding the upkeep of your printer directly on the screen. Unfortunately, the black page yield is bad and doesn't include duplex scanning.

Our Verdict

7.8 Family

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 is a good family printer. You can use it to print casual color photos and its color accuracy is satisfactory. The printer has exceptional connectivity options, and it includes a scanner that has an Automatic Document Feeder.

  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Fast printing speed.
  • Excellent build.

  • Poor black page yield.
6.9 Small/Home Office

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 is a decent printer for small office or home use. It has a bad black page yield and lacks duplex scanning. It does, however, have a good color page yield. It also has an excellent build quality and design that makes it easy to remove paper jams.

Pros
  • Impressive scanner with ADF.
  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Fast printing speed.
  • Excellent build.
Cons
  • No duplex scanning.
  • Poor black page yield.
8.1 Student

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 is a very good printer for students. It has a good cost-per-print for black-only documents and impressive printing speed. You should have no problem at all printing long essays or big bodies of work. Unfortunately, the scanner can't be extended very high for scanning large textbooks or papers.

Pros
  • Impressive scanner with ADF.
  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Fast printing speed.
  • Excellent build.
Cons
  • Poor black page yield.
7.6 Black & White

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 is good for black and white printing. Even though the black cartridge doesn't yield many pages and needs to be replaced often, the relatively low cost of the black ink cartridge makes it cost-effective in the long run. With two input trays, you can complete large print jobs without any issues. It does, however, have a poor black page yield.

Pros
  • Impressive scanner with ADF.
  • Fast printing speed.
  • Excellent build.
Cons
  • Poor black page yield.
7.6 Casual Photo

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 is a good printer for casual photos. Both the printing quality and color accuracy are acceptable, and it accepts both glossy and photo size 4" x 6" paper. However, it doesn't support 2" x 3" photo paper.

Pros
  • Fast printing speed.
  • Excellent build.
Cons
  • Some color present in the gray scale.
  • Doesn't support 2" x 3" photo paper.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

We tested the Epson WorkForce WF-3730. There's a variant called the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3720. The biggest difference is the number of trays: the WF-3730 has two input trays, while the WF-3720 has only one. There's another variant called the Epson WorkForce WF-3733, which is a Walmart and Target exclusive.

Compared To Other Printers

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740

The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is a better printer than the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730. Although both printers have excellent build and design qualities, the HP has a lower cost-per-print thanks to its higher page yield. The HP also has a better scanner thanks mainly to it allowing duplex scanning. However, the Epson does include a better mobile app that supports webpages and Microsoft Office files, unlike the HP.

Build & Design Quality
Type All in One

The Epson 3730 has a remarkable build quality. Its full plastic construction feels sturdy, and the power cord is removable, making it easy to replace should it get damaged. It includes two input trays that are both expandable to hold legal-size paper. They both also include length and width sliders, but only one of the trays supports 4" x 6". Additionally, you can actually lift the output tray from the first input tray to see inside during the printing process. This could give you a better idea of how many pages are left to print or see where there could be a paper jam. Unfortunately, the printer needs to be on for you to be able to change the ink.

The WF-3730 is quite tall thanks to its scanner and the additional input tray. It's similar to the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025, but a tad lighter.

The WF-3730 has a good display screen. It's visible whether you're standing or sitting thanks to its vertical tilt and sharp resolution. The menu is easy to navigate and includes three touch buttons (ink, WiFi, and sound). There are also instructional videos that play on the display screen to help provide the user with more information on how to change paper, ink cartridges, and perform other tasks.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730's four-cartridge system is decent. It has a good color page yield but the black page yield is bad. Also, when the black ink is running low, the printer will ask if you would like to create a composite black using the other colors to complete the job. If you want a printer with better color page yields, check out the Epson EcoTank ET-2400.

The Epson 3730 has impressive scanning features. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the ability to do duplex scanning, and the scan lid doesn't rise very much to fit larger items. If you need a scanner that can be adjusted for bigger textbooks or documents, consider the Brother HL-L2390DW.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730's cost-per-print is very good. With high color page yields, you won't need to replace the cartridges often, but they're expensive, so printing in color is more pricey than printing just in black in the long run.

Keep in mind that even if you only print in black, most inkjet printers continue using the color cartridge for servicing tasks, so you'll likely still need to replace it eventually.

The WF-3730 has an impressive printing speed. However, it's much quicker when printing out black-only text documents compared to color. With two input trays, it can hold an impressive amount of paper for large printing jobs. If you need even faster color printing, consider the OfficeJet Pro 9025.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 has ordinary color accuracy. It shouldn't be a problem if you're just printing casually, but it's not recommended for those who need accurate color reproduction. If you want better color accuracy, check out the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4830.

The photo printing quality of the printer is alright. The colors are vibrant and there's a good amount of details. However, photos appear on the red-ish tone, and there's some color present in the gray scale.

These results are based on the actual physical photo, not the scanned image provided for reference above, which may not be representative of the printer's photo print quality.

It doesn't support Bluetooth printing but does work with both AirPrint and Mopria on your mobile devices. You can also print off a USB key. The printer is also NFC compatible, which means when approaching your NFC compatible mobile device to the printer, it launches the Epson iPrint app if it has been installed.

The Epson iPrint app is remarkable. You can print and scan directly from the app, perform maintenance or printhead cleaning, and check the ink levels.
