My observations with the ticking sound

I noticed the update mentioning reports of that ticking noise, and I’d like to toss in my two cents.

I’m not so sure it’s “heat expansion”, because I noticed a very consistent pattern to the clicking before I returned my 55NU8000. The ticking happens at a steadily decreasing but consistent pattern for several minutes until it stops. It’s emanating from the area below the inputs.

I lapped the times between ticks with my phone, and it was decreasing in frequency by a fraction of a second. Starting at 20-something second intervals, going all the way down to 5-second intervals, where it finally stopped. The ticks also got quieter as time went on.

Lap times would look like this:

20:39 seconds (10/10 loud) 20:25 seconds (10/10 loud) 20:16 seconds (10/10 loud) 20:00 seconds (10/10 loud) 19.89 seconds (10/10 loud) 19.80 seconds (9/10 loud) 19.60 seconds (9/10 loud) 19.58 seconds (9/10 loud) 19.32 seconds (9/10 loud) 19.30 seconds (9/10 loud) 19.28 seconds (9/10 loud) 19.03 seconds (8/10 loud) 18.99 seconds (8/10 loud) 18.87 seconds (8/10 loud) etc etc etc 5:60 seconds (2/10 loud) 5:55 seconds (2/10 loud) 5:50 seconds (1/10 loud) 5:44 seconds (1/10 loud) 5:31 seconds (1/10 loud) 5:27 seconds (1/10 loud) [TICKING STOPS]

This pattern of ticking happens every single time the TV turned on from a no-power state. (Pulling power cord, not coming out of sleep mode) So if the TV was already “warmed up”, why would the clicking happen all over again? That’s why I think the ticking is some component initializing. But what that could be… I have no clue.
