Professional Use

The Vitamix ONE is a small full-size blender intended for drinks like smoothies and other liquidy recipes like salad dressings and sauces. It's small and light compared to other Vitamix blenders, like the Vitamix Explorian E310, and comes with a smaller 32-ounce jar. Unfortunately, it's not meant for multi-purpose use since using it for hot blending or making nut butter voids the warranty.

Our Verdict

5.5 Multi-Purpose

The Vitamix ONE is poor for multi-purpose use. It's not intended to blend hot ingredients or make almond butter, and it fails to crush ice. However, it takes under a minute to make an outstanding smoothie in its 32-ounce jar. While none of its parts are dishwasher-safe, it's very easy to clean by hand. It feels reasonably well-built as well, but not particularly premium.

Pros
  • Incredible at processing fibrous ingredients.
  • Compact design.
Cons
  • Can't blend hot ingredients.
  • Can't make nut butter.
  • Struggles to make crushed ice.
  • Build quality is just okay.
8.5 Smoothies (Single Serving)

The Vitamix ONE is fantastic for single-serve smoothies. It quickly blends a nearly perfectly smooth drink, even if your recipe includes tough ingredients like kale. While it's not ideal for ice-crushing, it can break up ice cubes. However, it's not as well-built as most Vitamix blenders we've tested. It's also loud compared to other blenders, which might be an issue if you like an early-morning smoothie.

Pros
  • Incredible at processing fibrous ingredients.
  • Compact design.
Cons
  • Struggles to make crushed ice.
7.8 Smoothies (Multiple Servings)

It's good for multiple servings of smoothies. The main jar's capacity is only 32 ounces, so compared with models like the Vitamix Explorian E310, you can't serve as many people from one batch. Still, even if you fill the jar to its full capacity, it can process fibrous smoothie additions like leafy greens and fruit very quickly. However, it may take longer to blend recipes with a lot of ice. It's loud and doesn't have the best build quality.

Pros
  • Incredible at processing fibrous ingredients.
  • Compact design.
Cons
  • Struggles to make crushed ice.
  • Small capacity for a full-size blender.
4.7 Ice Crushing

The Vitamix ONE is poor for ice-crushing. It can only fit a batch of about six ice cubes at once and struggles to process all of them. It can make some crushed ice but also leaves behind unprocessed cubes.

Pros
  • Compact design.
Cons
  • Struggles to make crushed ice.
  • Build quality is just okay.
4.0 Soups

The Vitamix ONE blender isn't designed for soups. It's not safe to use for hot blending, so you have to let any cooked ingredients cool before blending. It also has a relatively small 32-ounce capacity. Still, it makes an extremely smooth blend with fibrous ingredients, which is important for well-blended soups with broccoli or kale.

Pros
  • Compact design.
Cons
  • Can't blend hot ingredients.
  • Small capacity for a full-size blender.
3.3 Professional Use

The Vitamix ONE is poor for professional use. It doesn't feel extremely sturdy and has a relatively small 32-ounce capacity. It's not very versatile since the manufacturer says not to use it to blend hot ingredients or certain harder ingredients, including nuts and grains. It struggles to crush ice too. However, it's very well-suited for smoothies since it easily liquifies fibrous ingredients like kale.

Pros
  • Incredible at processing fibrous ingredients.
  • Compact design.
Cons
  • Can't blend hot ingredients.
  • Can't make nut butter.
  • Small capacity for a full-size blender.
  • Build quality is just okay.
  • 5.5 Multi-Purpose
  • 8.5 Smoothies (Single Serving)
  • 7.8 Smoothies (Multiple Servings)
  • 4.7 Ice Crushing
  • 4.0 Soups

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Vitamix ONE comes in one color, 'Black', and you can see the label for the unit we tested here.

If you come across another variant or your blender is different, please let us know in the discussions, and we'll update our review.

Compared To Other Blenders

The Vitamix ONE is a compact full-size blender with a relatively small 32-ounce capacity. It's not as well-built as other models from this manufacturer, like the Vitamix Explorian E310 or the Vitamix 5300, and it's less versatile since it's not intended for blending hot food or making nut butter. However, it makes a practically perfect smooth blend with fibrous ingredients, which is great for smoothies with fruit or leafy greens.

If you want to see other options, check out our lists of the best blenders for smoothies, the best blenders for frozen drinks, and the best Vitamix blenders.

Vitamix 5200

The Vitamix 5200 is better than the Vitamix ONE. The 5200 has a much better build quality and a more versatile performance. It can crush ice, blend hot ingredients, and make smooth nut butter. It's also quieter when it's running.

Vitamix A3500

The Vitamix A3500 is better than the Vitamix ONE. The A3500 has a much better build quality and a larger capacity. It's much more versatile since it can make nut butter and snow-like crushed ice, and you can use it for hot blending. It's also significantly quieter when it's running.

KitchenAid K400

The KitchenAid K400 is a better multi-purpose blender than the Vitamix ONE. The KitchenAid is sturdier and more versatile since it can hot blend, make nut butter, and crush ice. It's also quieter.

nutribullet Blender Combo

The NutriBullet Blender Combo is better than the Vitamix ONE. The NutriBullet has a better build quality, its main jar has a bigger capacity, and it comes with personal jars for making single-serve smoothies to-go. It's also quieter and easier to clean by hand.

Vitamix Explorian E310

The Vitamix Explorian E310 is better than the Vitamix ONE. Unlike the ONE, the Explorian can blend hot ingredients, make snow-like crushed ice, and produce smooth nut butter. It also has a bigger capacity and a significantly better build quality.

Vitamix A3300

The Vitamix A3300 is better than the Vitamix ONE. The A3300 has a much better build quality and a more versatile performance since it can handle tougher ingredients like nuts and ice cubes. It's quieter and comes with a dishwasher-safe jar and lid. On the other hand, the smaller ONE is intended for making drinks like smoothies, and it's very well-suited for that.

Vitamix 5300

The Vitamix 5300 is better than the Vitamix ONE. The 5300 is better built and more versatile since it can hot blend, make snow-like crushed ice, and produce smooth, spreadable nut butter. Its jar has a larger capacity. On the other hand, the ONE is a more compact blender and it's somewhat better for making single-serve smoothies if you don't mind its small capacity.

Smeg BLF01

The Vitamix ONE and the Smeg BLF01 both perform well for recipes like smoothies and aren't very versatile. The ONE is a little better because of its better build quality and better blending performance for smaller batches. However, the Smeg can crush ice without liquid in the jar, so you can use it to make a batch of ice to add to cocktails.

Breville the Fresh & Furious

For most purposes, the Breville the Fresh & Furious is better than the Vitamix ONE. The Breville is sturdier and more versatile since it can make nut butter and does a better job of crushing ice. It's also much quieter when it's running. On the other hand, the Vitamix is lighter and smaller. It's intended for recipes like smoothies and processes fibrous ingredients like kale a bit faster.

Hamilton Beach Professional Quiet Blender

The Hamilton Beach Professional Quiet Blender is better than the Vitamix ONE for most purposes. The Hamilton Beach is quieter, sturdier, and more versatile since it can make nut butter and uniform crushed ice. On the other hand, the Vitamix can process fibrous ingredients like kale in less time, and it makes a smoother blend when you're working with small batches, like for a single-serve smoothie.

Ninja TWISTi High-Speed Blender DUO

The Ninja TWISTi High-Speed Blender DUO is better than the Vitamix ONE. Both are compact full-size blenders, but the Ninja comes with a personal jar and a to-go lid for smoothies. It's also more versatile since it can make smooth nut butter and snow-like crushed ice. It also has a significantly better build quality. However, it has only one speed setting while the Vitamix has a variable speed dial that gives you more control over the blending process.

The Vitamix ONE blender is tall, with a smaller footprint than other Vitamix models like the Vitamix Explorian E310. It doesn't weigh very much for a full-size blender. However, while the base is advertised to be seven inches deep, measured from the back of the blender to the front speed dial, it's a few inches bigger than that, including room for the power cord at the back.

Build Quality

This blender has an okay build quality; however, it doesn't feel nearly as well-built as other Vitamix models, like the Vitamix A2500. The motor base is sturdy, but the rubber material doesn't feel as premium. The gears are metal, but the rubber gasket that sits on top of the motor body moves around easily. You can remove it if you want to clean beneath it, though. The speed dial is also a little flimsy, and you can easily pull it off the motor base. On the plus side, the underside of the base has vents, and there are two handle-like grooves to help make the blender easier to pick up.

The lid has a similar design to the one with the Vitamix Explorian E310. The circular middle part is removable, so you can use the tamper or add ingredients without stopping the blender. There are clips on either side that hook onto the lip of the jar to hold it in place.

It's fantastic for processing small batches of fibrous ingredients. All you need to do is turn it on and ramp the speed up to high, and it quickly blends stubborn ingredients like kale. The final result is nearly perfectly smooth.

It's fantastic for blending fibrous ingredients at full capacity. If you fill the jar to its maximum 32-ounce capacity, it quickly blends fibrous elements, so recipes like smoothies with kale or blueberries turn out virtually perfectly smooth. It's a quick, hands-off process since there's no need to stop the blender to scrape the sides of the jar.

It's not good for crushing ice. Even when blending just six ice cubes at once, which is less than most full-size blenders can handle, it leaves some of them unprocessed. When working with more than one batch, you may want to wipe out the jar between batches since the moisture from some of the ice that melted seems to make it harder for the blender to process the ice. The result is an uneven texture, with some unprocessed cubes and some crushed ice suitable for drinks. While the small size of the jar doesn't help with ice crushing, some other full-size models with similarly small jars do a much better job, including the NutriBullet Rx and the Ninja TWISTi High-Speed Blender DUO.

This blender has a dial that increases the speed as you turn it clockwise. It doesn't have any fixed increments for specific speeds and doesn't offer much feedback except for a soft click when you turn it on and when you've reached the maximum speed setting. There's no on/off toggle, and if the blender is unplugged when it's running, it comes on at the same speed setting when you plug it back in. Also, unlike other models like the Smeg BLF01, there are no preset modes on the dial, so if you want to pulse to break up bigger ingredients like ice cubes, you need to use the dial to quickly turn the blender on and off in short intervals.

Cleaning

This blender is very easy to clean. It can't make nut butter, but if you're working with something similarly sticky, running it with soap and water in the jar eliminates some of the residue. You also need to use a sponge or brush to scrub the ribbed sides of the jar and the blades, which you can't remove from the jar. Still, overall it's not hard to clean by hand.
