I need a TV with good wide angle viewing for our family room. Interested in how the image of the A7 holds up off angle, and how it compares to its mini-led competitors from now a wide range of manufacturers.

Curious how it compares to the X95L Me too! Been hearing that the 7 is very comparable to the X95L, but noticed it is retailing for $1000 cheaper, which doesn’t make much sense to me. I am within my 60 day return window and I’m thinking of exchanging the X95L for the Bravia 7 just to save some money.

Saw the vid. From Brian. On the vid to me the X95L looked better. But its just a vid. Difficult to say how it is in r.l. Some say the B7 is better than X95L. Others say it’s similar to the X90L. Would wait for reviews… As you said it does not make sense. Selling a better TV for less money.

I saw the video too and one thing Brian did say was that he thought it was better then the x93l which honestly was a really good TV overall, that’s a definite positive. I did also see if I can find a video showing the 65x95L for a “quasi” comparison and I found the review from HDTV Test and from what I saw, it looked similar to the Bravia 7 which is what Sony claimed, and he also had a video from the launch where he caught a glimpse of the Bravia 7 next to the X90L and it trumped it by a large margin and looked like the X95L in local dimming performance, at least to me. From what I can gather based on information and what I’ve seen, I think the Bravia 7 will be on the same performance level as the X95L, maybe not better but about the same with some little improvements, like the new chip-set. Honestly though, I think that’s a rather good thing, the X95L was the best mini-led last year and still is an excellent performer, now it’s essentially offered at a mid-tier option and price, like if you can’t afford the high end you can still get a very high quality TV, I could be wrong and this is just my speculation but that’s what it seems like Sony is trying to do with this one, I do hope that’s the case and soon we will see with reviews that I’m guessing will be rolling out soon, fingers crossed for this one to be good, I really want one 😄

Looking forward! Curious to know if there are any issues with 4K 120hz, full 4:4:4 chroma with VRR and HDR enabled when connected to a PC.

And if possible, please test for these issues which affected previous Sony TVs: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/hdmi-is-broken-on-newer-sony-tvs-with-nvidia-rtx-3000-4000-series-cards.3260397/

Sony has since pushed a fix for these issues recently (Dec 2023) and based off users in the thread with last year’s TVs, it seems to have been resolved. To be sure if there are no similar issues on the new 2024 TVs a test would be great if possible.

Thank you and appreciate your reviews!

Just ordered the 75" B7 - I’ve taken a calculated punt based off the fact it can’t be worse then X90L, X93L and may be as good as the X95L. If it it sits between last years 2 mini leds after RTINGS review I’ll be a happy man :). TBH I would have been happy buying a X90L having currently owning a X950G which I love but unfortunately the panel is damaged after a move. Upgrading ain’t that bad but hey :)

I am trying to decide between the Sony A80L and Bravia 7. And maybe the LG G3 however I really want a Sony TV for the processing, upscaling and chromecast built in and Google TV OS. Need to know if the Bravia 7 will score higher than the A80L or not.

Why not Bravia 8? I considered to buy A80L but now I’m waiting for reviews of Bravia 7 and 8. For me LG and Samsung is not even an option because of OS. I think I want Bravia 8 just for now. But we’ll see 🤔

Trying to keep the cost down as much as possible, I would love the bravia 8 but trying to stay under 2000 USD. Would really like a good deal on the A80L for like 1500-1600, however if the ratings score of the Bravia 7 is higher than the A80L, THEN I will purchase it.

Will Rtings be able to test the image quality and upscaling in sub 4k content in game mode from sources that do not natively upscale to 4k? A case in point, my budget Jvc 1080p TV has a significantly sharper image in 420p, 720p and 1080p than my neo qled in game mode.

Very curious as I’m getting ready to pull the trigger but figured I’d wait for the reviews first. My original inference is that it’s essentially the same with minor upgrades but in different sizes at a more reasonable price.

I just got the bravia 7 55 inch version , I have to say something is seriously wrong in sdr. the highlights in sdr are way over blown even if “auto local dimming” or “peak luminous ” are set to low , I tried low , med or high combination between the two . the only way to get somewhat acceptable picture is to lower contrast value from 90 all the way down to 48 and to set the brightness value to 40 .

This is way different behavior than what I’m accustomed to with x950g , x950H or X90J . I have seen some reported issues with nvidia cards (I got RTX3080) but I never got any issue with the mentioned previous sony models

The issue persist in any mode even if the source is set to PC

If you folks got PC with RTX3000/4000 please investigate

edit : forgot to mention, it doesn’t matter when I change “output color format” in nvidia control panel . “RGB” , “YCbCr 420” or “YCbCr 444” all behave similarly. VRR is enabled (if you don’t enable VRR , you get weird artifacts and slow ups)

This set is capable of over 1800 nits, which means anything above peak luminance off & brightness at 10-15 is overkill. Try setting Peak Luminance to off, local dimming to medium, & brightness to 10-15. I guarantee it’ll look a lot better.

I know it have nothing to do with your Problem. But did you already try if the TV is 1440p capable (with PC)?

Thats the only reason i did not buy one yet.

    Thanks :)

While the overblown highlights reduce significantly ,I’m getting way less contrast image overall with those settings , dare I say it but both x950g and x950h produce better image in sdr when auto local dimming is set to medium.

By “1440p capable” you mean it display 1440p signal from pc ? yes , it works no reason not to work really , in fact you can go all the way down to 640x480.

With that being said , it’s not recommended to use a resolution less than the panel resolution as you will be getting a blurrier image than a native 1440p panel at the same size .

you’ll be better served with 4k signal and than lowering the game internal resolution from it’s settings

Don’t have other devices near me at the moment , however I put the same Youtube clip 4k60fps sdr on both the TV built in Youtube app and through PC HDMI using the exact same settings , I have no doubt in my mind that on PC the highlights are absolutely overblown when “auto local dimming” and/or “peak luminous ” enabled .

on PC HDR however , it’s absolutely magnificent , easily the best I have ever seen .
