I am curious to see if it can beat LG C4 in brightness and glare handling.

Another vote for Bravia 8. I will buy it or the A80L at 65 inches.

Bravia 7 review is out. It is disappointing. Viewing angles are poor for a TV in 2024. Reflection handling is also poor. I don’t know what is Sony doing.

Wondering how it compares to C4. For me this year it’s going to be the C4 or the B8.

Do you guys run an OLED a couple of hours before testing? I read a lot they have to “warm up” 100-200hrs. To show the full potential.

Hey! We have a Warmup period for every TV we test that starts right after unboxing until we start testing it (and throughout testing as well). By the time we get to the Picture Quality tests the TVs typically have over 100 hours on them. Hope that helps!

Are you able to confirm if it has a more glossy screen? The A80L had a more matte screen where any reflection was more spread out and I was wondering if Sony changed this.

Yep this is very interesting. Most interesting is how it handles reflections and how much brighter it is

I have lost the hope on Bravia 8 because traditionally LG C series borrowed OLED equivalent in Sonly are less brighter than LG itself. And this year C4 brightness and contrast is easily bested by the similarly priced Samsung S90D. So I assume Sony Bravia 8 will be below LG C4 which itself is below Samsung S90D. For most of the people brightness and screen glare features does matter as most of us will have plenty of windows and direct lights.

Rtings can u guys please incorporate TV mounting holes under build quality score? You don’t need to actually mount it but test fastening the mounting screws and see how durable or flimsy it is. In my experience I found that Samsung mount holes are poor in quality though looks nice and where as Sony mount holes feels sturdy and fastens securely.

I need to upgrade my 55950H and am thinking of replacing it with this 55" model. Is that a good idea? Is the burn -in something to factor into my decision?

    Hi Chetanbecs,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out with your suggestion!

Although we currently don’t have plans to rework on our existing Build Quality test, we will keep your feedback in mind for when we eventually reassess this test. :)

Don’t hesitate should you have any other feedback or suggestions for us.

    Regards

The full explanation of what we’re seeing on the BRAVIA 8 is in the written review, but something else I wanted to point out was that they don’t quite use the same processor. Sony has confirmed to us that they do make changes and tweaks to processors without changing the name. So when you see the same processor name carry over from one year to the next, they’re not actually the same identical processor, there are some changes. The firmware that drives these processors also changes over time, so it’s not uncommon to find considerable differences between models that use the same processor family.

Thanks for the detailed response. It would still seem odd for an updated processor to have worse performance, unless a new bug was introduced.

Maybe this of the Bravia 8 review from digitalfernseher.de could get some awnsers (translated from GER. to ENG.)

Neither a look at the technical features nor the information in the small print indicate that Sony has equipped the Bravia 8 with a less powerful image processor. However, a look at the television’s setting options reveals noticeable deficits. For example, the Bravia 8 only allows automatic brightness adjustment when adjusting the light sensor, while comparable Bravia TVs can also adjust the color temperature automatically.

More serious is the loss of automatic tone curve adjustment, because this light sensor optimization automatically increases dark areas of the image in bright rooms. The Bravia 8 does not offer such an adjustment, which is why it is only possible to adjust the image reproduction specifically for bright rooms using manual settings.

In principle, the Bravia 8 is not ideally suited to bright rooms, because dark areas of the image show a relatively sluggish increase in black levels in the natural image presets, which means that dark details are hardly recognizable. It is only in darkened rooms that it becomes apparent that the Bravia 8 is very well adjusted to the respective input signal. Unfortunately, Sony has omitted a particularly popular picture function on the Bravia 8 to smooth out gradual brightness transitions, which are particularly common with compressed streaming content. This makes the Bravia 8 even less flexible than the Bravia 7 when it comes to improving weaker picture sources.

I finally see what happened now: Sony took the Gray Uniformity out of the Bravia 9 and gave it to this TV instead.

Hello, I have the 77 A80L and Bravia 8 77 side by side. One thing that is clear. A80L, while dimmer, appears to provide a better picture. Which is odd. A80L handled game of thrones (HotD) last night very well. The Bravia 8 was very Samsung like. Artifacts flying around the area where hair would be on a head lol. Think daemons golden hair.

The Bravia 8 will undoubtedly be going back.
