Hello,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention! After reviewing the issue, it seems you’re correct. I found documentation stating that the depth when in use should be closer to 18 inches. Unfortunately, we no longer have the printer in stock to measure it directly, but I double-checked the in-use photo and counted the squares on our dimension box. Based on that, I can confirm the depth is closer to 18 inches.
Thanks! Though I think the original dimension may be correct in a significant way.
Looking at Canon’s site, they show paper in the tray without the tray extension arm extended - and I assume that’s 8.5"x11" paper. I think that extension arm is for 8.5"x14" paper and that’s what gets it to ~18".
So – ~15.1" is for 8.5"x11" and ~18" is for 8.5"x14".
Can you confirm the “Depth When in Use” dimension? Based on the images, it looks closer 17.75" rather than 15.1", when you count the tray extension arm that indicates the actual end of the paper. This is a critical dimension for my purposes, as I’m hoping to fit it in a cabinet.
Unless that extension is for 8.5"x14" paper rather than 8.5"x11"? That would make sense.

I’m curious why this printer isn’t recommended more?
Specifically, it rates higher in almost every category (and at least equal in others) compared to the Brother HL-L2460DW. Yet the Brother is included on 15 different recommendation lists versus none for this Canon.
The only significant difference I can see is cost: the Canon is ~$170 while the Brother is ~$120. Maybe that cost bumped it out of consideration?
I went ahead and updated. All seems well on my end, at least based on initial viewing.
I’ll add a couple requests, since you asked. :-)
The latest firmware is 1.10.15.5-4. It looks like your latest tests were done on 1.10.15.1-2. I’m not sure what changed between those releases, but it might be worth checking out.
I’d also love to know if there are any updates to your recommended calibration settings. I think those were last updated in September, before several firmware updates.
You’ll probably notice the biggest differences in this update being relevant to gaming. We adjust input lag for most TVs and tested things like HDR brightness in game mode. There wasn’t many changes to individual scores but there’s some helpful information if you’re a gamer! If there’s ever something specific you want us to have a look at, feel free to let us know though!:)
Got it, thanks!
I suppose the only specific thing I was wondering is if some of the other bugs related to local dimming have been resolved - eg, that it indicates it’s on, but it’s off. Or that it shuts off when viewing Dolby Vision content.
Or, generally speaking, if there’s other significant issues that remain unresolved with the latest updates.
Interestingly, some folks in other forums have recommended not updating (which I think means not connecting the TV to wifi, to avoid the auto-updates), but I’m unclear if that was or is good advice.
With regards to the link you provided, I could totally be missing it, but it seems like Amazon has it set to currently unavailable and that they aren’t sure when it’s going to be back in stock! I could totally just be missing something though!
That’s odd. I see 4 of the 55", and 2 of the 65", in stock on Amazon, delivery to me in Los Angeles by March 16. Here’s the full link to the M55Q8-H1:
Awesome, though it’s not clear to me what exactly was updated. I see the update note at the top, but don’t see any updates in the individual sections. Perhaps I’m just missing it. Is it easy to summarize or point out?
Also - you may want to update your Amazon link, which currently shows unavailable. Walmart too.
Thanks for taking the time to explain in detail your recommendation process. Very helpful!
