Could you let us know which technology is more prone to burn in: LG’s WOLED (LG C4-C5) or samsung’s QD-OLED (s90D-S90F)?
That’s a very good question. We’ve been exploring this very question over the last few years with our 100 TV accelerated burn-in test, but that test used first generation QD-OLED panels, so the results aren’t really relevant to the second and third generation panels used in the S90F-S95F. Based on years of research into burn-in, though, right now it seems like these two technologies are roughly tied. Regardless of panel type, it seems like burn-in is largely a thing of the past as long as you vary your content. If you’re using your TV as a PC monitor, then watch for static elements like the task bar, app navigation bars, or the gap between windows if you have multiple things open side-by-side. If you’re watching the same cable news channel all the time, then you will get burn-in eventually no matter which panel type you get.
Hey, how’s it going? I saw all the tests are done do you know when they’ll be released? I’m trying to decide between the S90F and the S90D.
Thank you
Please test this correctly for the Audio Passthrough. Testing with forced passthrough of PCM 7.1 will not match reality. This and all recent Samsung TVs are broken, they refuse to pass through 7.1 unless you force it, locked to only 5.1 in the EDID. Meaning they are out of spec with eARC as that is a mandated feature. Only pressure from Rtings will help us.
Hi thank you for your feedback and bringing this to our attention! We currently test the pass through by forcing a signal, which technically works which is why we give it a pass. We are aware that in the EDID the eARC port will limit to 5.1 we are looking for ways to continually improve our tests and this is certainly something we want to point out to users interested in 2025 samsung units which have this issue. It’s unclear if this is a bug or an intentional decision by Samsung to limit support, but the other Samsung TVs we’ve tested in 2025, like the Samsung S85F OLED and the Samsung QN90F, have the same limitation.
I’m trying to choose between the s90F and the C5. Would you say that the brightness is better on the s90F or C5? Specifically the full screen brightness (my room is a bit bright)

Hello I found a deal for the S90D at $1,770 CAD (around $1,300 USD). Do you think I should go for it?
Also, I have a question about the model name. I’m in Canada, and the model number here is QN65S90DAFXZC, while the U.S. version is QN65S90DAFXZA. Are both of these still QD-OLED panels?
Thanks!

That seems like a solid deal to me! The Canadian model code with the ‘C’ at the end is the same as the US version, so it should have a QD-OLED panel.
hey! small issue in the section with affiliate links to each size. the 42" S90F has a model code ending in FXZA, when it should end in EXZA, since it uses a WOLED panel. all other sizes do not have this type of issue.
Hi, qa55s90faulxl- indian model for 55inch is confirmed to be using a qd-oled panel.
All I want to know is did they fix the power board issue on the 77 inch model from the s90d. Otherwise I have to get c4 o g4

This isn’t something we’d be able to determine by testing the TV, since it would take a while for any power board issues to surface. If we encounter an issue in the future, we’ll definitely report it.

It seems that the one Samsung replaces it with is a Samsung branded board while the original, defective board is a different manufacturer
When full review will be available?
The full review has been posted here. Let us know what you think!
You guys didn’t encounter the same motion issues that you reported with the s95f?
“The TV occasionally stutters with 24p content when there’s a sudden change in brightness from one scene to the next.” This problem exists for S95f but not for S90F? I read about these problems on a forum and it seems very serious but for you everything is fine. Hmm.

No worries! Unfortunately, we don’t have the time or resources right now to open up the TV to check. Also, considering we bought the 65" S90F, checking the power board wouldn’t be very helpful, since it seems like the issues with the S90D were isolated to the 77" model. I’d like to think that Samsung didn’t ship the 77" S90F with a faulty power board like they did on the S90D, but we just don’t know for sure.
Not sure of this has been asked but isn’t the Bravia 8ii the most logical competitior for this TV? and as such it’s strange to see a comparison missing…..
I think the bravia 8 II is a competitor with the s95F not the s90F. Different price brackets. In terms of actual quality they are closer however
Sound quality has degraded from the S90D to the S90F? Stats seem to show worse bass extension. Did they change the speakers despite still being 40w? Thank you

Maybe you guys could add the S90F to the long term test? Speaking of which, are you guys still adding TVs to the long term test?! Thanks!!
I saw some discussion about the scores for different brightness levels, pic modes, nits output in filmmaker mode and had a thought… I know all of your tests or based on filmmaker/pro mode, but is there a way/ category you could incorporate into the test results to show absolute peak brightness, or maybe even just a sub category kinda like you sometimes show different images for different settings like local dimming on/off/low-med-high?! Hope that makes sense!
Ps. I know you guys are slammed this time of year so thanks for all the hard work!!!!
I really wish you guys could, at least once with one Samsung model, review their woled version to their qdoled version. I only buy 83" panels and have no idea how it stacks up to anything else on the market.

If you’re getting a WOLED panel go LG. Samsung loses to LG in terms of image processing, format support, and QC, and everything else should be pretty much the same with both using the same panel for WOLED. The only reason to go Samsung is QD-OLED; if you’re not getting that LG is better.
Update: We mentioned the stutter that occurs with 24p content when there’s a sudden change in brightness in the 24p Judder section.

This should have been mentioned in the review since the problem exists on the S90F as well. We updated the review to include that information. Thanks for pointing that out!

The S95F and the G5 are the Bravia 8 II’s biggest competition, since those are each brand’s highest tier OLEDs. With that said, we’ll add an S90F vs Bravia 8 II comparison sometime in the near future. For now, you can compare the two TVs side by side here. You can compare any TVs we’ve reviewed side by side like that, but you just won’t always get the write up at the top. I hope that helps!
The long term test will actually be ending in a few months, so we don’t have any plans to add new TVs to it, unfortunately.
Really?! Wow. That’s a bummer. I don’t know if anyone else conducting these kinds of tests. Especially with all the questions about some mfr QC and “how will they last”. Not to mention, having the TVs in a long term test allows for retesting after time goes on with regards to firmware updates, burn in, firmware “nerfing”, panel longevity, etc.
I’m not sure what you guys do with the TVs once they’ve been tested, I’ve heard/read a lot of comments on some mfr tv life expectancy/qc, etc and how some TVs only “live until warranty expires”. I dunno, imo testing a tv for long term could help to prove whether rumors about TVs lasting more than X years could help to prove how those mfr have gotten better, not just worse. Thanks.

We actually just ordered the 55" S95F, which appears to use a WOLED panel in Canada. We’ll be testing it and posting our results as a separate review. Stay tuned!

You’re welcome but reading here it seems like a minor problem while on the avsforum the problem seems more serious, and not only on 24p content.
You gave a rating of 10 but from what I read around the rating should be 2.
This goes for S95F, S90F, LG G5, S90D. Im thinking its the cameras used when taking photos of HDR brighteness in and out of game mode. Hall lights, skyscraper, and pool. They look drastically different between each tv. Its not the color hue, like the magenta for Samsung, and greenish for LG, but the clarity. Are you using the same camera model, distance from screen, and zoom, when taking sample photos of each screenshot? If so, the the S95F looks terrible when it comes to sharpness, and detail, very blurry images especially on the pool scene when viewing the outlines of leaves and objects. If its the image quality then great, but if its standardizing the camera setup would help alot when making a decision on which tv to buy. Ive shared this on the tvs listed above on their discussion page as well. Thank you.

Hey! this is something that we used to try and evaluate, but it gets pretty tricky pretty quickly. It ends up being a whole lot of measurements with a whole lot of trial and error for different settings combinations. Sometimes you can get a very brief flash of really high brightness with certain settings, but would we count that as the highest even if it’s just for a split second? That’s why we ultimately decided to compare the tv’s in their reference conditions so that they would at least be comparable. We do usually try to collect our real scene measurements using some of the additional processing settings like Dynamic Tone Mapping or similar settings to give an idea of what it’s capable of outside of reference. We’ll keep the suggestion in mind for future updates to our brightness testing though! Although we will have to pick some kind of standard measurement process to keep things comparible. Hope that helps!
Anyone else have a black line down the middle on bright hdr scenes? i unplugged it and put it back in it goes away for awhile but comes back
could you explain about color space Auto bug?? if i use color space auto in FMM, the yellow content might be lower??
Why isn’t there a direct comparison between the s90f and the s95d and lg g4 and Bravia 8 mk2 if all these tvs have a 8.6 overall rating?
could you explain about color space Auto bug?? if i use color space auto in FMM, the yellow content might be lower??
With color space to set to ‘Auto’, the TV has clamping issues and the yellow luminance is lower than expected. It’s still very high, though, so it would be very hard to notice this with real content. We tried other color space settings, but everything we tried resulted in worse overall color volume, so we determined that ‘Auto’ is still the best option despite the bug.
