Yes, my TV is going back. You can see my post about DSE. It’s unbearable to watch and I think RTings should change their recommendation for this model.

Well, I think I’m gonna go for the warranty then. Hopefully they won’t fix it and I’ll be able to get my money back.

Unfortunately this tv is not as good as rtings says. We, as customers, should not accept this kind of product. It is so frustrating that manufacturers are delivering worse products year by year and charging this kind of money for them. I miss my Panasonic plasma.

    Hi Cannigia!

I can’t say for certain, but I suspect that could be a defect with the TV and it may be worth contacting your place of purchase to confirm and exchange.

For Whattodo, I am sorry to hear that you had bad DSE on your model. We buy all of our models from retailers so we get the truest customer experience possible. We can only evaluate the display based on the one we test.

However, I want to thank you both for sharing your comments here because what we can’t really test for is product variance, which is why we rely on our community to share their experiences as well!

LOL. When I returned my Q80T (twice) I went back to my trusty 54" Panasonic Plasma..

Thanks for the reply guys, but this kind of problem is a common complaint on the internet about this TV. I wonder if the local dimming might have any influence on this, but unfortunately we cannot completely disable it on the TV. Also, the soccer games I’m watching are upscaled content from the cable TV. I don’t thinks this could be the cause, but anyways… I would share a video with you guys for showing it, but the issue is not visible on a recorded video.

Also, if I sit in front of the TV, the stripes are almost tolerable. I can notice them more when I’m sitting in a different angle.

When watching NFL football on any cable network, but particularly NBC on Sunday night, my q80t stutters unbearably for about ¾ of the plays. It happens after instant replays or onscreen graphics are displayed between plays. Right after either it seems to move really fast then smooth out again at the beginning of each play. This issue is all over the web, both in the EU and USA. Im in PA and have Xfinity. Please address this issue so people make an informed decision. I am returning mine in a few days after buying it mainly based on your reviews.

I have this same issue. I am an Xfinity customer and seem to notice that there is a stutter on each play just before the ball is snapped. I cannot tell if this is a weird thing the TV is doing or in the broadcast. I see it in almost all football content including a recorded college game on CBSSN, and live NFL games on NBC and FOX. I have messed with Picture clarity settings to no avail. I will try switching on “Game Mode” this Thursday night. The game is (supposedly) in 4K on xfinity, and I’ll be interested to see how it looks.

Xfinity usually has two games of CFB on Saturday that are in 4k as well, picture is amazing, but still the ffwd looking motion is there at the start of plays. Now that I’m looking for it, the stutter happens over a variety of programming. Not just sports. But Sunday night football is particularly unwatchable on the official tv of the NFL. Game mode I tried, seemed to help but the picture is that of a $700 tv not what we paid. Either way I didn’t put out all that cash to be their tech guy lol. Im returning it Saturday morning and have a Sony on the way. If I hear anything that may help I will let you know though.

Ok its definitely doing it on Fox in 4k. Great picture too what a shame.

I watched very closely last night and definitely saw the stutter issue. The game was definitely in 4k. I was noticeably sharper than the usual Sunday game Broadcasts, but the pre-snap stutter was very present . I’m starting to think it’s an issue with the xfinity signal processing. No other content on this TV has similar issues. Game Mode had no effect whatsoever. I’ve only had the TV for a couple of weeks, but this is the only problem I’ve had. I seem to have won the panel lottery as far as dead pixels and DSE go. I was also living in a hotel with a low end 49" LG for three months prior to this (for work), so my judgement might be skewed as far as the relative experience with the q80t.

Well… about my situation here, I have talked to Samsung and the tech support tried exchanging the display, the main board, and the power supply board (This last one because they screwed up the original). Nothing worked, the defect remains. For soccer or football, when the camera moves fast from one side to another, you can see several really thin vertical stripes all over the screen. Tried 1080p content, 4k content and the problem always happens. So it wasn’t my panel, the TV is really that bad. I’ll try to get my money back now and, unfortunately, I cannot rely on rtings reviews anymore.

Are you able to reproduce the same error when watching a soccer clip on YouTube? If you can, send me the link to the video you used and we will test it on our model.

Yes I can, but videos on youtube due compression have other issues on the image. I’ll try to find a good 1080p video as an example. So far I did not find any good video of soccer for testing it on youtube. I have mostly tested with cable and with games I have recorded here, as the world cup final in 4k for example. My recommendation is to put a game on using your cable TV.

Edit: try to use any video from this list. Check some of them. The image is not as fluid as it is on the cable but I can see the issue on my tv on several videos.

    https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxNkbtbKnD_IIjFpeGqk7tSJM12M0LVd4

I can notice specially when there are some game plays were the ball is moving fast… An example would be when a player shoots the ball from one side to another on the field. Or a player is running from one side to another with or without the ball and the camera moves with them. Check sweden x england highlights. I think it is a good example. The best thing would be watching a complete game of course.

If your tv does not show anything with these videos I must be the most unlucky person on earth.

Just an update on my experience with this issue. Im at my brothers in NC, I live in PA, two different cable companies. I own the q80t him the q60t. Same stuttering issues watching NFL football on cable. This proves to me that its not a Comcast issue its the tv. I thought it may be just the 120hz models but obviously not. I don’t know enough to say what is causing the issues with motion and the stutter coming out of replays or onscreen graphics but its definitely not the cable source. Maybe Rtings can give Samsung a heads up on this issue and they will actually pay attention?

This discussion is really disheartening. I just purchased my Q80T and waiting for delivery on Jan 6. I purchased it specifically for watching Horse Racing which has lots of fast moving action and its sounds like it just won’t do the job with motion issues, stutter etc. I hope a don’t have to return this! Any clues as to calibration that I should know other than what Rtings gives us?

was hoping not to go to an OLED because of burning issues. My TV is on almost 24/7 and on same 3 or 4 channels most of the time and especially the horse racing station TVG. was hoping the Q80T would be the answer for me without spending a lot more money. my question is, am I going to have to purchase an OLED tv to properly watch my horse racing without putting up with motion (etc) issues?

I just picked up the Q8DT from my local Costco and have noticed this same issue. I actually am waiting on a delivery this week for a 75" Sony X950H to compare against since the price was the same for these models. I am expecting to prefer the Sony and bring back the Samsung. I just am surprised by the high rating for motion from rtings.com

Spoonerbill, I agree wholeheartedly that this is disappointing to read… How was your unit when it showed up? I was within a whisker of pulling the trigger on a 65Q80T, but stumbled onto this thread…

To anyone, are there screen issues with movies or streaming or only when watching live sports? This is a super serious issue just on the sports front, but want to know if the picture quality issue seen there is noticed on other occasions.

Hello. You’ll notice this when the camera moves sideways and you have a solid color as a background. In the end, it looks like it really is vertical banding. This video, for example, around 13 minutes 40 seconds:

    I am really disappointed.

I returned Q80t for a Sony x950h. No motion issues with the new Sony, as well the viewing angle is far better. The motion issues were not isolated to sports I can assure you of that. I think the Samsung was a tad better with blooming but it crushed all details in black to do so. I prefer the Sony’s colors as well, they just seem more natural. In HDR the Sony trounces the Q80t, much brighter highlights 95% of the time. Video games are great on the X950 despite no vrr or 2.1. Get the Sony you wont regret it.

ive noticed some fast paced action missing when not on game mode. i tested movie mode video vs playing the same video on alienware 240hz AW2521HF monitor and found more fast paced detail is kept when on game mode rather than movie mode. so I enabled game mode which is also supposed to reduce latency in fasted paced action such as on games. with my xbox one X hooked up I recorded that sweden x england highlights first on game mode and then on movie mode. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AkPBwOpDueINnUecSF6u4c5VDweu is your tv running latest firmware? I didnt see anything weird in this video or on my tv. on one of the videos were i did notice fast paced action missing. a ball been kicked across the screen blimped in and out of existence on movie mode for 3/10th of a second. changing it to game mode fixed this. but this was only one kick i noticed this in that whole playlist

Yes, I’m running the latest firmware. The problem seems to be a ridiculous vertical banding, and seems to be present in most of panels of this model. Samsung already replaced my display once, and it got worse. I’m waiting a new visit from their tech support.

I live in Brazil. The Samsung TVs here are the same from the US market. Samsung is always making up excuses to not fix my TV or giving my money back. Unfortunately I’ll have to go to court to solve this issue. Luckily my wife is a lawyer.

Well, good luck to you… I tried the warranty but the second display was worse than the original. Samsung keeps telling me that the TV has no defects, but the technicians that work for their authorized repair center say that it does. Unfortunately Samsung and their authorized repair center, conveniently, chose not to trust the technicians that were hired to diagnose these kind of issues. That kind a of treatment says a lot about this company. I’ll never buy Samsung again and I’ll make sure to tell this story to whoever is willing to buy this brand.

I’m in the same boat as you are, the vertical lines is mostly shown in fast moving sports moments when the background is of the same color (green in soccer, white in ice hockey). I also see this alot in movies whenever the sky is shown and the camera moves sideways. Unfortunatly i just thought this was due to settings in the begining so i did not return the tv. When i contacted Samsung here in Sweden they just said it was normal and they wouldn’t do anything about it. It’s sooo frustrating couse i bought this tv just becouse of the ratings from Rtings.com. Worst decision in my life to buy this tv!

I’m sorry to hear that. That was exactly what happened with me. I’m really disappointed to see all these comments here in this thread and see that this TV rating for sports is still 8.4 on rtings. Unbelievable! I wonder why.

Edit: I forgot to mention, but the rtings review was what made me buy this TV as well.

    Hey everyone.

I want to first apologize to you all as this update probably comes too late for most of you. We’ve heard your issues here and we’re going to update our review and suggestions. While we test for things like judder, our test doesn’t involve us testing directly with a cable TV source, which based on all of your feedback here, is clearly an issue with the Q80T.

We’ve shared all of the feedback here with the appropriate teams, and we’ll get this review updated ASAP. Thank you all for bringing this to our attention, and again, I’m sorry this is something we didn’t catch.

Great to hear. A change in rating/recommendation will hopefully go a long way toward them addressing the issue via firmware updates. It’s clear that the concerns of customers who’ve already paid isn’t that important.

Luckily this caught my attention. I ordered this TV and it was being delivered next week. Due to these comments, I have cancelled and purchased the Sony X950H.

I’m happy I have created this thread and you were able to get a better TV. Unfortunately I wasn’t so lucky.

I am wondering if the judder problem is limited to the 120hz panels (55” and up) as I am interested in the 50” model (60hz)

This tv is the absolute worst tv I’ve EVER watched sports on. Run the other way. Buy something else. ANYTHING else.

Same thing here. They changed my dashboard without success. Today the’re gonna change the panel, but from what I read here, it’s almost useless. One side note: I’ve bought a Q80T with a friend of mine: same day and at the same store. His TV has none of the issues listed here by you, whereas mine has all of them. Moreover, if you surf the internet, you’ll notice that pretty much ALL of the 2020 QLED Samsung TV can have similar issues. Totally crazy.

Fun fact: techs sent me by Samsung say that they cannot state those TVs has this kind of issues, otherwise, upon replacement for the customer, Samsung will charge them of the cost of the TV. Don’t know if is true or not, but I swear the techs said that to me.

Continuing the sad story, lots of lines of dead pixels appeared on my crappy q80T. I complained and today my panel was replaced. Third panel, guys… Third. I was happy when I saw it because at least I would have a shot of solving the banding problem. Well… It did not solve it. It has a lot less banding than the previous two, but still… Worst tv ever for sports.

Be interested to know where you guys are from. It seems that a lot of people in Europe are having issues with stuttering. I understand that tv content there is 50Hz. Be interested to know if 60hz content suffers the same problems here in North America.

This televising is horrific! I accidentally cracked my bedroom’s beloved UN49KS8000 . Found few options in 48-50” and discovered a bit too late about the omission of features in the smaller sizes.

I’m not a sports or gaming person and don’t really understand the issues others are having with this set. However the image quality for both movies and television is quite simply beyond sub par. We couldn’t even read the caption on some advert - a big, dull, blurry mess. Lest I forget the sound - of course all the advanced sound features are not present in the 50”. It sounds like a palm size transistor radio minus the static.
My UPS driver will hate me but this is going back to Costco before weeks end.

Serves me right for buying sight unseen based solely on the word of a website

Yes I purchased a 55" (geek squad model April 2021) and it had the Studer in SD and HD. So I returned it. It did have a nice sharp picture but coming from a 2009 Pan.plasma I hated the hesitations. I purchase a X950h and had to fiddle around with all the fickin settings same as I did with the Q80 also. You know can’t they just make a TV that you turn on and watch maybe adjust the brightness and color. I very happy now that I got the X950 set up the way I like. But like I’ve said if the motion isn’t right when you plug it in this is a manufacturer flaw in design. We shouldn’t have to go through this as consumers . The manufacturers know these flaws also.
