Great picture quality, but our first unit failed within a year and was replaced under warranty. Less than 3 years later, same issues with the replacement set.

Of course, Samsung was happy to direct me to a repair depot, but didn’t seem surprised at all about the reliability (lack thereof) of this unit. Our TVs get little use in our home, and they’re not used for gaming, PC viewing, etc.

Out of the box…great set. But, regardless if we’ve just been unlucky by having 2 of this model fail within 4 years doesn’t invite confidence in Samsung’s technology despite some of the Q80’s impressive visuals.

My set broke after 4.7 years. Samsung said it cannot be replaced nor repaired. It was a shock.

That’s weird to hear. My unit doesn’t seem to have any noticeable issues. It has been I think around 5 years already up till now. When and where did you purchase it? I’m wondering if it’s just certain batches of it facing such quality issues.

At the top of this review it say that the Q80r was replaced with the Q80t. It has been well documented that the Q80t replaces the Q70R and the Q90t replaces the Q80t. I have the Q80r and after 6 years the picture still blows me away. It even looks better than my fathers two year newer QN90A. I want to replace my bedroom tv (q80t) with this one and get a new tv for my man cave. My question is since the q80t and the the q700c soundbar I have connected to it are both earc and the q80r does not have earc will I have any noticeable audio issues when connecting the q80r and the q700c together?

We’ve updated the “Replaced By” info at the top of the review.

As for your question, the Q80R supports the older ARC instead of eARC, so it’ll still work, but you’ll be a bit more limited in the audio formats supported. If you’re only watching shows and movies using the TV’s streaming apps, it likely won’t make any difference. The Q80R can passthrough the lossy versions of advanced codecs like Atmos, so you’ll still enjoy full surround sound, it’ll just be a bit more compressed. You might also have more issues with audio sync, but there are ways to correct it even without eARC.
