I noticed compared to my older (10yr+ older) HP Color LaserJet that the pictures look terrible, mainly too dark. Although its direct competitor on your site shows the HP MFP m283fdw being marginally better, at least the photo wasn’t as dark and more true to the brightness. What is the best way to adjust this on the Canon?
Does it support 5ghz Wi-Fi?

Hi,
We generally don’t recommend laser printers for photo printing because they produce low-resolution pictures with visible printing pattern. Also, laser printers usually have a narrow color range. If you must print pictures with a laser printer, the HP M283fdw produces brighter pictures, but it isn’t as color-accurate as the MF656Cdw. There’s no way to adjust the Canon to produce brighter pictures since it’s limited by its color range.

I wish I still had my old HP CP2025DN. Pictures looked fantastic on it, without the detriments you mentioned.
I do see you can adjust colors/brightness in the Canon driver dialog, but they don’t seem to stick for future prints.
Update: We’ve added a link to the Brother MFC-L3780CDW/MFC-L3720CDW in the ‘Color Documents’ section of the review to provide an alternative that prints less oversaturated documents out-of-the-box.
“Can’t print on glossy paper” should not be in the pros column.
Update: Added mention of the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw/4301fdn as an alternative with faster printing speeds in the Printing Speed section.
WARNING to whoever buys this overpriced paperweight (MF656cdw). After a month of use, this printer will develop phantom paper jams. I bought this printer primarily because I trust the RTings review process and now I can’t print anything because the printer thinks it’s got a jam. It doesn’t. I take the tray out, put it back in, and it prints one more page. Then jams again. I don’t know what the reviewer is thinking by listing “undemanding maintenance” as a pro. It’s literally the most fickle and temperamental printer I’ve ever had the displeasure of using.
I bought this printer 4 weeks ago and printed about 4500 pages. It is a bit faster than the 4 years old HP it had to replace, but the toner cartridges are crazy expensive. A set original cartridges sells for about 650 CAD in Canada, 3rd party cartridges still rip a 200 Dollar hole in your pocket. This us up 100% from what I paid for compatible HP cartridges. The manufacturer’s excuse that the printer price is subsidized, and therefore the consumables must be so expensive, seems to be a big lie. Because the printer cost about 700 CAD, which should be about the cost of manufacturing or even a bit more already. And a toner cartridge doesn’t cost more then 20 Dollars to make it.
