The Sharp SMC2266KS is a large 1200-watt microwave. It has a larger internal capacity than many other options, including over-the-range models, and includes most of the features typically found in microwaves, like buttons for popcorn and veggies. There's also a steam sensor for more automatic cooking and a button to quickly start a 30-second program or add 30 seconds to the end of a program. There's no dedicated mute button, but you can hold the '8' button for three seconds to silence the controls.

Our Verdict

8.6
Everyday Use

The Sharp SMC2266KS delivers excellent performance for everyday use. It's a large microwave with enough internal capacity to accommodate most dishes, including a full-size casserole dish or large mixing bowl. With 1200 watts, it cooks very quickly at maximum power, yet it's also very quiet, making less operating noise than most other options. It's decently easy to use, too. It has a membrane touch panel, which isn't particularly responsive compared to physical buttons or dials, but you can start a simple program with a single button press. There's also a cooking sensor that automatically adjusts the cook time by detecting steam in the chamber, along with a button to quickly add 30 seconds. That said, it takes multiple button presses to cook at reduced power or to set a specific cook time.

Pros
  • Heats food quickly.

  • Very quiet operation.

  • Easy to use for simple cooking tasks.

  • Includes a cooking sensor.

Cons
  • Difficult to use for complex cooking tasks.

  • Membrane touch panel is less responsive than physical buttons or dials.

    Popular Microwave Comparisons

The Sharp SMC2266KS is a 1200-watt countertop microwave with a very large cooking chamber. In fact, like the Panasonic NN-SN975S, it has a larger internal capacity than many over-the-range microwaves, making it easy to reheat just about any dish, including full-size casseroles. It heats food quickly, though some other 1200-watt microwaves, like the Panasonic NN-SN67HS, can cook even faster. The controls are similar to the Sharp SMC1162HS, but this model also has a cooking sensor that automatically adjusts the cook time by detecting steam in the chamber, making cooking more automatic. It's also very quiet. It makes even less noise during operation than the Breville the Smooth Wave.

All microwaves perform similarly in terms of heating uniformity, so you shouldn't notice a difference between this and any other model. Instead, how evenly your food cooks depends on the type and amount of food you're cooking, as well as where you place it in the cooking chamber.
