If you have high humidity levels in your bedroom, it's worth investing in a dehumidifier. Finding the right unit for your bedroom requires a few special considerations. Quiet operation is a must since you'll likely run the unit overnight. You'll also want something that doesn't put out too much heat, so your bedroom doesn't get hot and stuffy. Nice-to-have features include 24-hour timers and real-time fan speed adjustment systems, as these help you avoid fiddling with settings throughout the night.
We've tested 20 portable dehumidifiers, and below are our recommendations for the best ones for bedroom use. We consider their dehumidification performance, price, and feature sets. If you're looking for another set of product recommendations, you can see our picks for the best dehumidifiers, the best dehumidifiers for basements, and the best small dehumidifiers. Alternatively, if you're dealing with overly dry air in another bedroom in your home, see our picks for the best humidifiers for bedrooms. Of course, if you're looking to upgrade the comfort level of your bedroom in general, you may want to check out our recommendations for the best mattresses as well.
If you don't know where to start, deciding between dehumidifiers can put a damper on your day. Luckily, we've streamlined the process, buying and testing 20 dehumidifiers from major retailers; no cherry-picked models. Our lab team then measures airflow, capacity, and more to ensure you have the data you need to make a buying decision. If you're still between models, you can compare them directly, side by side.

Best Dehumidifier For Bedrooms
Basement6.9Bathroom7.3Large Room7.0Bedroom7.7Capacity6.1Noise7.9Temperature Stability8.0Type:RefrigerantSee all our test resultsDrain Pump:NoThe Waykar PD160B is the best bedroom dehumidifier we've tested. While this unit's 8.5-pint capacity certainly is far from the highest we've tested, it's still an ideal option for the majority of bedrooms. It has a discrete footprint compared to a lot of higher-capacity units, and its operating noise will easily fade into the background of most homes or apartments. It also generates very little heat, so you can have it near your bed without feeling a constant flow of warm, dry air against your face. You can set your desired humidity level and have the unit adjust its fan speed setting automatically, so there's no need to babysit the machine while it runs.
Although there's no built-in pump to drain the water into an elevated receptacle, it has a hose for continuous drainage. Its display is rather dim: this can be a nuisance when trying to operate the machine, but the upside is that it doesn't emit a harsh light that'll disturb your sleep. Unfortunately, this unit is likely insufficient for removing moisture from exceptionally large, open-concept rooms. For big bedrooms, check out the Midea MAD35S1QWT below!

Best Dehumidifier For Large Bedrooms
Basement7.6Bathroom6.7Large Room7.4Bedroom7.0Capacity7.2Noise6.6Temperature Stability7.0Type:RefrigerantSee all our test resultsDrain Pump:NoIf you have a large bedroom that requires heavy-duty dehumidification, the Midea MAD35S1QWT is a great option. This unit has an observed capacity of over 20 pints per day, far more than the smaller Waykar PD160B, along with a massive 4.2 gal (16.0 L) water tank, so you won't have to worry about emptying it out very often. Better yet, there's an integrated hose, so if you have an en-suite bathroom, you can just have it drain out there rather than having to haul the bucket to your tub or sink. Unfortunately, there is no drain pump on this model. While it puts out more heat than the Waykar, and is also far noisier and bulkier, it still runs quieter and cooler than most 50-pint models. The Midea's collapsible design also saves space when the unit isn't in use.

Best Dehumidifier For Bedroom Closets
Basement3.6Bathroom5.8Large Room4.5Bedroom7.1Capacity2.5Noise8.0Temperature Stability8.1Type:Thermoelectric (Peltier)See all our test resultsDrain Pump:NoIf you only need a dehumidifier to deal with small amounts of moisture inside an enclosed space, like your bedroom closet, consider the ProBreeze PB-03 or one of its variants. It's approximately one-sixth the weight of the already pretty compact and lightweight Waykar PD160B, so you can easily put it on a shelf in your closet or any other tight space. It generates very little heat, so you won't notice any real impact on the temperature of your room, even if you leave it running all the time.
Unfortunately, this unit doesn't offer anywhere near the dehumidification capacity of a full-size machine or even a more compact unit like the Waykar. As a result, it'll do a terrible job of dealing with high levels of moisture, even within modestly sized rooms. The ProBreeze also has a tiny water tank, but since its dehumidification rate is so low, it takes quite a while to fill up. It draws only 37W of power, which is great if you plan on having it run overnight often, but its poor capacity means it isn't an energy-efficient option either.
It's worth noting that the PB-03 can be a little difficult to find at some retailers. If you're still in need of a compact dehumidifier, check out the ProBreeze PB-02, which is an even smaller unit. Naturally, its more compact size means it has a smaller 9-ounce capacity and a 0.1-gallon (0.5 L) water tank.

Midea MAD50PS1QWT:
The Midea MAD50PS1QWT is a good 50-pint alternative to the Midea MAD35S1QWT if, for whatever reason, you need the extra capacity. It's built along the same chassis and has the same bulky footprint, but it also releases more heat and more noise, making it a worse option for use in bedrooms.
