The Hisense HLAW0825TW is a window-mounted air conditioner. It's intended for medium-sized and large rooms, with an advertised coverage of 350 ft² (33 m²). It features an inverter compressor for more precise temperature control and an L-shaped exterior that's designed to let you open your window even when the unit is in place. It also features separate fan-only, dehumidification, and low-noise Sleep modes, along with Wi-Fi connectivity so you can adjust settings via a smartphone app.

Our Verdict

8.4
Large Room

The Hisense HLAW0825TW is a great fit for large rooms. It offers sufficient cooling capacity for spaces like living rooms or especially large primary suites, though it's likely to struggle in really large open-concept areas or whole apartments. Humidity levels shouldn't fluctuate by a noticeable degree when this unit is running, and while it isn't quite as effective as some other alternatives at maintaining your desired temperature, it still does well in this regard. It's also amazingly efficient when cooling a space and maintaining that temperature, so it won't have too big an impact on your utility bill.

Pros
  • L-shaped design allows you to open your window while the unit is installed.

  • Does an excellent job of maintaining ambient humidity level.

  • Excellent power efficiency when cooling a space and maintaining that temperature.

  • Cooling capacity is sufficient for larger rooms.

Cons
  • Not quite as effective as some alternatives in maintaining desired temperature.

8.2
Bedroom/Small Room

The Hisense HLAW0825TW is great for use in bedrooms and other small rooms. It does an excellent job of keeping the air in your room from getting clammy and is effective at maintaining your desired temperature, though some alternatives are even better in the latter regard. While fan noise can be a little distracting at higher settings, it's very quiet at lower settings and shouldn't wake you up or cause a major disturbance in a home office. Its unique L-shaped design also lets you open your window without removing the unit, so you won't be stuck breathing stuffy air when you don't feel like running the A/C. Unfortunately, as is common for most window models at this level of capacity, the Hisense is heavy and bulky, making it a challenge to install.

Pros
  • Very quiet overall operation.

  • L-shaped design allows you to open your window while the unit is installed.

  • Does an excellent job of maintaining ambient humidity level.

  • Excellent power efficiency when cooling a space and maintaining that temperature.

Cons
  • Bulky, unwieldy design can make it a challenge to install.

  • Not quite as effective as some alternatives in maintaining desired temperature.

8.1
Capacity

The Hisense HLAW0825TW offers impressive cooling capacity. It's well-suited to areas like large living rooms, primary suites, or kitchen or dining rooms. That said, it might struggle to quickly cool larger open-concept areas.

Pros
  • Cooling capacity is sufficient for larger rooms.

Cons
8.5
Efficiency

The Hisense HLAW0825TW is an amazingly efficient unit. It's a window unit with an inverter-controlled compressor, so it can run steadily at a lower speed instead of having to cycle its compressor to hold your desired setpoint. As a result, power consumption is relatively low when it cools an area and when it maintains that temperature.

Pros
  • Excellent power efficiency when cooling a space and maintaining that temperature.

Cons
8.3
Stability

The Hisense HLAW0825TW does a great job of maintaining ambient conditions. Its inverter compressor doesn't modulate very much once it reaches your desired temperature, which helps minimize any swings in humidity. While it does a good job of maintaining your desired temperature, some other units will do an even better job in this respect.

Pros
  • Does an excellent job of maintaining ambient humidity level.

Cons
  • Not quite as effective as some alternatives in maintaining desired temperature.

9.2
Noise

The Hisense HLAW0825TW is a remarkably quiet air conditioner. While its fan noise can be a tad distracting at its max setting, it's still quieter than many peers in this configuration and is unlikely to be a nuisance even if you have it running in a bedroom or nursery.

Pros
  • Very quiet overall operation.

Cons
6.8
Size

The Hisense HLAW0825TW is somewhat bulky. Its lopsided L-shaped design requires a slightly more involved installation process than more conventionally shaped window A/Cs, and at a little over 50 lbs in weight, it will be a challenge to install by yourself; we'd recommend enlisting a friend to help set it up.

Pros
  • L-shaped design allows you to open your window while the unit is installed.

Cons
  • Bulky, unwieldy design can make it a challenge to install.

    Popular Air Conditioner Comparisons

The Hisense HLAW0825TW is a mid-range window A/C with an advertised cooling capacity of 8,000 BTU/hr. Its L-shaped design stands out amongst other units with comparable capacity; unlike the bulkier, heavier LG LW6023IVSM, you can open your window with the Hisense in place. It also offers more capacity than the Friedrich Chill Premier Inverter CCV08A10A, and it'll be a little more effective in bigger rooms. The Hisense has few glaring weaknesses, though it is worth noting that it isn't quite as effective at holding your desired temperature as the aforementioned LG and Friedrich, not to mention the pricier, higher-capacity Midea U-Shaped MAW12V1QWT, which has a similar U-shaped design that also lets you open the window while the unit is installed.

If you're still looking for alternatives, see our recommendations for the best air conditioners, the best window air conditioners, and the best air conditioners for bedrooms.

    Midea U-Shaped MAW12V1QWT

    Track

The Midea U-Shaped MAW12V1QWT is a more capable window A/C than the Hisense HLAW0825TW. Both units have similar form factors, which allow you to open your window with either unit installed. However, the Midea provides a higher overall cooling capacity, allowing it to cool larger spaces, and does a better job of maintaining ambient conditions. That said, it is worth pointing out that the Hisense runs a little more efficiently.

    LG LW6023IVSM

    Track

The LG LW6023IVSM and Hisense HLAW0825TW are somewhat evenly matched window air conditioners. Despite the LG's lower advertised capacity, both units deliver near-identical cooling capacity, and the LG also does a better job of maintaining ambient humidity and temperature levels. Meanwhile, the Hisense runs a little more efficiently. Its L-shaped design is more compact than the bulkier LG and allows you to open your window with the unit in place, too.

    Friedrich Chill Premier Inverter CCV08A10A

    Track

The Hisense HLAW0825TW is a slightly better all-around window A/C than the Friedrich Chill Premier Inverter CCV08A10A. The Hisense can cool an equivalently sized room a little faster thanks to its higher cooling capacity, all the while consuming a similar amount of energy. Unlike the Friedrich, the Hisense's L-shaped design also enables you to open your window even when the A/C is mounted in place. With that said, the Friedrich is a little better at maintaining current humidity levels as well as your desired setpoint, and it runs fractionally quieter.
