Whynter NEX ARC-1230WN
Midea Duo MAP12S1TBL
The Whynter NEX ARC-1230WN and Midea Duo MAP12S1TBL are mechanically similar units, sharing the same physical and in-app control interface. That said, the Whynter does pack in a more powerful inverter compressor, allowing it to cool an equivalently-sized space a little faster. That said, the Midea is still a very good option, especially if you don't need the extra capacity for a smaller room and can find it for a lower price.

Hey RtingsUser2935818,
For what I understand, they both are pretty identical, but there are a few factors that could play into why they are slightly different. The first would be margin of error, we try to keep the room as quiet as possible and use the same SPL meter, but the readings can bounce all over the place. We noted the most consistent reading from the meter. Second, the Midea DUO we have is 10000 BTU while the Wynter is 12000 BTU so they likely have different compressors. Finally, the low noise was taken while the AC was maintaining pressure, so the Whynter was at around 295 watts and the Midea was around 320 watts. I don’t think that would account for the full 3 dBA difference (it’s likely it was more margin of error), but it might have impacted it a bit.
Thanks for pointing this out, though. Feedback like this helps us improve the quality of our reviews in the future!
Have a great day!
Are you sure there was a volume difference? Strange considering Midea produces these units for Whynter (at least that is what many claim).
