A Dual Anti-Tangle System on the main and side brush combines with a comb designed to keep hair from wrapping around the roller. Navigation relies on a LiDAR turret for mapping but lacks obstacle recognition. The static mop pad pairs with three adjustable water flow levels for mopping.
Our Verdict
The Roborock Q7 M5 does a reasonable job of cleaning homes with a mix of floor types. If you have mostly hard floors, you can rely on it to keep things tidy day to day. It also does a solid job of cleaning carpets and lifting pet hair. The major caveat is that it doesn't handle obstacles well, so if your home has a lot of furniture, cords, or other clutter, you'll likely need to step in and help it along more than you'd like. There's also no automation at the dock, so emptying the bin and refilling the water tank falls entirely on you between cleanings. Stain removal is adequate, especially for a robot using a static mop pad, but it won't replace a scrubbing mop for tougher spots.

If pet hair pickup is your priority, it's a good pick, clearing the vast majority in a single pass. If avoiding pet accidents and general obstacle handling matter more, it won't fit the bill, since it doesn't reliably avoid clutter like toys and leashes, let alone waste, so you won't be able to let it clean unsupervised if your pets are accident-prone. Since there's no automated dock to handle daily maintenance, you'll have to empty the dustbin and wash the mop pad yourself. That said, it operates quietly, so it won't disturb napping pets while it cleans, and stain removal is adequate if accidents do happen on hard floors.

The Roborock Q7 M5 is a budget robot vacuum built around strong cleaning fundamentals rather than convenience features. It doesn't have a self-emptying dock or real-time obstacle avoidance, but it makes up for that with some of the better debris pickup you'll find at this price. While it doesn't have a scrubbing mop, it does offer basic mopping, which many other budget picks like the eufy Auto-Empty C10 and basic variant of the eufy L60 skip entirely. It's a clear step up from the older Roborock Q7 Max+, offering better hard-floor and pet-hair pickup. If cleaning performance matters more to you than hands-off maintenance, and you don't mind emptying the bin and managing the mop cloth yourself, it's a strong pick. This robot vacuum feels well-built, with a mix of sturdy-feeling components. The exterior is mostly matte, but the top is glossy and shows scratches more easily. The LIDAR turret doesn't have a physical sensor to register when it has bumped into something and retract, but it does have a plastic protector to compensate for that. The mop cloth holder is designed to be flexible to adapt to uneven floors, but that same flexibility makes it feel like the part most likely to break with rough handling.

This robot vacuum requires a lot of user maintenance because there's no dock automation to offload any of the routine upkeep, so every part of cleaning the robot falls on you. That said, most parts are relatively easy to access and remove.
The brush roll collects some tangled hair, but its soft bristles make it easy to remove by hand rather than requiring scissors. The end caps do leave a bit of black grease on your hands, which is a minor annoyance if you're maintaining it regularly. The side brush doesn't collect much hair, but removing it requires a screwdriver, which slows down an otherwise quick maintenance routine. The omnidirectional wheel is the most frustrating part to deal with. It needs a prying tool and some force to detach. You'll need to wash the mop cloth by hand, too, since there's no indication it can go in a washing machine the way some previous Roborock mop cloths could.

The onboard dirt compartment is acceptably sized. That said, real-world capacity falls noticeably short of what's advertised. Roborock lists the bin at 400ml, but in practice, it stops picking up debris effectively around the 300ml mark, so you'll likely want to empty it sooner than the spec sheet suggests.

Station maintenance capabilities are essentially nonexistent, which tracks with this being a budget model. As a budget model, this unit's dock is just for charging. If you want an auto-emptying dock, get the Roborock Q7 M5+ variant.

Battery performance is excellent. On its highest power setting, you'll get about an hour and 15 minutes of cleaning before it heads back to the dock, and that stretches to roughly two hours and 40 minutes if you drop it down to the lowest power mode.

One thing worth noting: this robot doesn't have a dedicated carpet sensor, so you need to mark carpeted areas manually in the app beforehand. Dark carpets can also interfere with its cliff sensors, so you may need to cover them to ensure the robot cleans those areas.

This vacuum does an adequate job of adapting to your home. It fits neatly underneath low furniture and cleans well around table legs without any issues. It does a good job cleaning underneath tall, spindly items like coat racks, though it might nudge them out of place a bit. Rugs with tassels or fringe are the biggest problem. It gets stuck on them almost immediately, so you'll want to tuck fringed edges out of the way before a cleaning session. Mirrors and other reflective surfaces can also confuse it, as it may not fully register them as obstacles and can repeatedly bump into them, sometimes mistaking the reflection for open floor space.

It can't identify or specifically avoid things like cords, socks, or pet waste, and doesn't steer around obstacles on its own. Stain removal is adequate, especially considering this robot uses a static mop pad rather than a scrubbing or vibrating one. With High water flow and a Deep cleaning pass selected, it clears a solid amount of dried-on residue in a single pass. A second pass over the same spot lifts a bit more of what's left, though the improvement isn't as dramatic as what you'd see from a robot with a dedicated scrubbing mop.
Onboard controls are limited to two buttons: Power/Clean, which turns the robot on or off and starts a cleaning cycle, and Dock, which sends it back to the charging station. Scheduling and more detailed cycle control need to happen through the app rather than on the robot itself.

The Roborock app lets you manage standard tasks like scheduling cleanings, setting no-go zones to keep the robot out of specific areas, and manually directing navigation if you want to steer it to a specific spot. That said, some features found on higher-end Roborock models are missing here. There are no obstacle-avoidance settings to configure, since the robot doesn't have dedicated obstacle-avoidance hardware to begin with, and the app doesn't support Matter, so smart home integration outside Roborock's own ecosystem is limited.
