Miele Guard S1 Electro vs Guard L1 Electro

The Miele Guard L1 Electro and Miele Guard S1 Electro are both canister vacuums in Miele's Guard series. They share the same powered electrobrush, so you'll get very similar cleaning results from both. Air quality and build quality are virtually identical, and at about 6 lbs lighter, the S1 is much easier to carry between floors. Where you'll notice the difference is in everyday convenience: the L1 has foot-activated power controls, a longer cord, and smoother maneuverability around furniture. It's also the only Guard model with a HEPA filter, though the S1's filtration performs nearly identically in practice. Bare floor pickup is a shared weak point. If you want the best cleaning results for the least money, the S1 is the smarter buy; if the convenience features and HEPA certification matter to you, the L1 is worth the step up.
