A cordless vacuum makes it easy to stay on top of everyday messes on hardwood floors, letting you quickly clean your space without being tethered to an outlet. The best cordless vacuums for hardwood floors pick up fine dust and pet hair that settles into the grooves of wood planks without scratching or damaging the wood itself. They should also be lightweight, offer enough battery life to cover your whole home, and filter out fine particles so they don't end up back in the air you're breathing.
We've tested over 105 vacuum cleaners, and below are our recommendations for the best cordless vacuums for hardwood floors. We've considered not only each vacuum's performance on bare floors but also its feature set, design, and price. For more options, look at our lists of the best cordless vacuums and the best vacuums for hardwood floors. Best Cordless Vacuum For Hardwood Floors
Hard Floor PickupLow-Pile Carpet PickupHigh-Pile Carpet PickupTotal Weightlbs ( kg)BatteryPet Hair PickupHouseSee all our test resultsSmall ApartmentThe best cordless vacuum for hardwood floors we've tested is the Dyson V15 Detect. Its Laser Slim Fluffy floorhead uses a soft roller to pick up fine dust and debris on bare floors without scratching the surface, and a built-in laser light helps illuminate particles that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. If your home has a mix of hardwood and carpet, the included Digital Motorbar floorhead handles rugs and high-pile carpet exceptionally well, and the vacuum's Auto mode automatically adjusts suction power as you move between surfaces.
Battery life tops out at 75 minutes, which is plenty for most small to medium-sized homes, though heavy use in Boost mode will drain it significantly faster. Pet hair removal is one of its strongest suits, and its near-perfect filtration system keeps fine dust in the bin rather than recirculating it into your living space. The one notable drawback is that emptying the dustbin tends to kick up a cloud of dust, so it's best to do it outdoors or away from your main living area. That being said, the same is true for the other picks on our list, too.

Best Upper Mid-Range Cordless Vacuum For Hardwood Floors
Hard Floor PickupLow-Pile Carpet PickupHigh-Pile Carpet PickupTotal Weightlbs ( kg)BatterySee all our test resultsPet Hair PickupThe Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a great choice if you're looking for a slightly more affordable cordless vacuum. Its performance on bare floors matches that of the V15, and at just over five pounds, it's one of the lightest models in Dyson's lineup. Despite its trimmed-down size and weight, it still offers a wide variety of features. It can automatically increase suction on carpet or when it's on an area with a high concentration of debris, so you don't need to worry about moving from your hardwood to an area rug while you're cleaning.
There's also a built-in particle sensor that gives you a real-time estimate of the allergen quantities it's picking up. In addition to its primary multi-surface floorhead, it comes with a floorhead that includes a soft roller and a laser light to help identify fine debris and pet hair on hard floors. The battery lasts up to an hour, which is pretty lengthy for this type of vacuum. The downside, however, is that it can't compete with the V15's top-tier performance on carpets, so if you have a mix of rugs and hard floors, the V15 might be worth the higher price. Also, given the vacuum's small size, its dirt compartment is tiny and needs frequent emptying.

Best Mid-Range Cordless Vacuum For Hardwood Floors
Hard Floor PickupLow-Pile Carpet PickupHigh-Pile Carpet PickupTotal Weightlbs ( kg)BatterySee all our test resultsPet Hair PickupIf you want a capable cordless vacuum for hardwood floors without spending as much, the Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H is worth a look. Its twin-roller floorhead picks up debris on hard floors as well as the Dysons, and it has a similar system that automatically boosts suction when it detects higher concentrations of dirt, so you don't have to manually adjust settings as you clean. The flexible wand is a practical advantage that makes it easier to reach under furniture without having to crouch. Its build quality feels much more robust than both Dyson models, and though this makes it noticeably heavier, which can become tiring during longer cleaning sessions.
That said, there are some real tradeoffs. Pet hair pickup isn't as strong as the V15, and battery life is a bit shorter, topping out at 63 minutes. The self-cleaning brushroll can still get tangled with long hairs, making it a pain to clean. It has a HEPA filter that contains fine particles and allergens while you clean, but the bagless system means that these particles can be reintroduced into the air when you empty it. Its odor-neutralization feature uses a replaceable cartridge that emits a detergent-like scent as you clean. However, this scent can become somewhat overwhelming if you leave the cartridge at its maximum intensity and clean your home multiple times per week.

Best Budget Cordless Vacuum For Hardwood Floors
Hard Floor PickupLow-Pile Carpet PickupHigh-Pile Carpet PickupTotal Weightlbs ( kg)BatteryPet Hair PickupHouseSee all our test resultsSmall ApartmentIf you're shopping on a budget, the Shark Cordless Pet IX141 is worth considering for hardwood floors. It does a very good job of picking up a wide range of debris on bare surfaces, matching the performance of all three of our more expensive picks. Its pet hair pickup on carpet is genuinely outstanding, clearing almost every strand in a single pass, outperforming both the V12 and Stratos. It's also one of the quieter vacuums at this price, and its large dustbin means you won't need to empty it as often as some pricier options.
That said, spending less means making some real compromises. The most significant one is the lack of a HEPA filter. Unlike the more expensive picks on our list, this vacuum does a poor job of trapping fine dust and allergens, blowing particles back out into the air as you clean. If anyone in your home has allergies or respiratory sensitivities, that's a hard thing to overlook. Battery life is also shorter than that of our pricier picks, topping out at around 38 minutes and dropping to under 15 minutes in MAX mode. There's no automatic power adjustment, and the brushroll isn't removable, making it harder to clean.

Best Cheap Cordless Vacuum For Hardwood Floors
Hard Floor PickupLow-Pile Carpet PickupHigh-Pile Carpet PickupTotal Weightlbs ( kg)BatteryPet Hair PickupHouseSee all our test resultsSmall ApartmentIf you want to spend as little as possible and still get a vacuum with a proper HEPA filter, the Wyze Cordless Vacuum S is worth a look. It's remarkably affordable, and its filtration is genuinely impressive for the price, trapping nearly all fine particles during operation so they don't end up back in the air you're breathing. It's also one of the lightest cordless vacuums on the market, making it easy to carry between rooms or up stairs. Unlike the Shark's fluffy roller, the Wyze uses a more conventional multi-surface brushroll with bristles. Thankfully, the bristles aren't stiff enough to scratch your wooden floors, and they still provide some surface agitation on rugs.
The performance tradeoffs are significant, though, and it's important to go in with realistic expectations. Bare floor pickup is much weaker than the other vacuums we recommend here, as the brushroll tends to scatter larger debris around rather than collecting it cleanly, and material can get trapped in the floorhead and fall back onto the floor when you lift it. It feels less sturdily built than the Shark Cordless Pro, and it doesn't have any features like an automatic power adjustment system or an odor-masking cartridge. The small dustbin will need frequent emptying. It's best thought of as a lightweight daily touch-up vacuum rather than a workhorse for whole-home cleaning.
