Our Verdict
The LG LF29H8330S is decent for everyday use. It has an amazingly large fridge cabinet, big enough to accommodate large casserole dishes and oven trays, though its freezer cabinet is a little short. The climate-controlled drawer can be used to supplement storage in either space and is handy for keeping your groceries organized. While temperatures inside the freezer cabinet and main fridge compartment are very consistent, it's worth noting that the fridge door bins are quite a bit warmer than the desired setpoint, and should mainly be used for chilling unopened drinks and other shelf-stable items. Beyond that, it doesn't do that great a job of keeping fresh produce crisp.
Excellent refrigerator capacity.
Full-Convert drawer makes it easier to keep groceries organized.
Minimal temperature deviation inside freezer.
Minor difference in temperatures from top to bottom fridge shelves.
Fridge door bins are warmer than temperature setpoint.
Single-evaporator design results in a dry fridge environment.
Full-Convert drawer reduces freezer cabinet volume if used as extra refrigeration space.
The LG LF29H8330S' produce preservation performance is mediocre. This is a single-evaporator fridge, meaning that cold air is shared across the freezer and fridge compartments. This air is kept dry to inhibit frost buildup on the evaporator, but this in turn results in a low-moisture environment inside the fridge. Produce with a high water content, like celery or lettuce, wilts faster in such a space. The crisper drawers don't seal all that tightly either, so moisture will escape from produce stored inside.
Single-evaporator design results in a dry fridge environment.
The LG LF29H8330S' refrigeration capacity is excellent. The cabinet is wide and deep, making it a good option for big families that require large-scale grocery runs. There is an in-fridge ice maker, but it's built entirely into the door, with a water filter included, keeping the main fridge cabinet free of potential obstructions. There's also the climate-controlled Full-Convert drawer, which can be used to keep everything from wine bottles to bulky wedges of cheese out of the way.
Excellent refrigerator capacity.
Full-Convert drawer makes it easier to keep groceries organized.
The LG LF29H8330S' freezer cabinet has only okay overall capacity. If you don't use the Full Convert drawer as a freezer, freezer cabinet space is fairly limited. The cabinet is somewhat short, with space on the upper shelf being taken up by the high-capacity ice tray. On the upside, the lower bins are just about deep enough to accommodate larger boxed goods or bulk-sized bags of frozen fruit and vegetables.
Full-Convert drawer makes it easier to keep groceries organized.
Full-Convert drawer reduces freezer cabinet volume if used as extra refrigeration space.
The LG LF29H8330S has excellent overall temperature uniformity. There's effectively no real-world difference in freezer temperatures between the top and bottom drawers, and thanks to this unit's inverter compressor, temperatures in that compartment don't deviate far from the desired setpoint. It's a bit more of a mixed bag in the fridge. While there's little difference between the top and bottom shelves, the door bins sit a few degrees warmer than the desired setpoint. As a result, it's best to only use the bins for long-term storage of shelf-stable goods.
Minimal temperature deviation inside freezer.
Minor difference in temperatures from top to bottom fridge shelves.
Fridge door bins are warmer than temperature setpoint.
The LG LF29H8330S' ice-making performance is exceptional. This is a result of its twin ice makers, with one unit installed in the fridge door and the other in the freezer. With both trays filled to max capacity, you should have enough ice to serve iced drinks to a large crowd. That said, the in-fridge ice maker presents a high number of potential failure points.
Twin ice makers result in high ice production rate.
Combined capacity of twin ice buckets is sufficient for serving drinks for a crowd.
In-door ice maker design introduces a high number of potential failure points.

Popular Refrigerator Comparisons
The LG LF29H8330S is a standard-depth 36-inch French-door refrigerator. It's positioned slightly above most mainstream models from LG, with premium touches like soft-close doors and an extra climate-controlled Full-Convert drawer. If interior volume is the main thing you look for in a refrigerator, it's a compelling option: the refrigerator cabinet is big enough for huge grocery hauls, and its in-door ice maker frees up a lot of room compared to more conventionally-designed alternatives. The climate-controlled drawer can also make it easier to keep things organized, even if it does result in a shorter freezer cabinet compared to a more traditional French-door model like the Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS. However, the LG's single-evaporator cooling system is a liability when it comes to produce preservation performance next to dual-evaporator alternatives like the Samsung Bespoke RF30BB6200QL.
For more recommendations, take a look at the best French door refrigerators, the best refrigerator brands, and the best refrigerators overall.
The Samsung Bespoke RF30BB6200QL is a slightly better-performing fridge than the LG LF29H8330S. Both are standard-depth 36" units, with similar usable volume inside the fridge and freezer cabinets. That said, the Samsung's dual-evaporator design results in superior produce preservation performance, as it's able to maintain a higher-humidity environment inside its fridge cabinet. While the Samsung has an in-door water pitcher refilling system, it keeps its twin ice makers inside its freezer cabinet, a better proposition for long-term reliability over the LG's in-door ice maker. In terms of serviceability, it's a mixed bag, with the Samsung having a more reliable supply of spare parts, but LG having the farther-reaching network of authorized service providers.
The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS and LG LF29H8330S each have their own strengths. The LG's temperature-adjustable drawer can make it easier to organize your groceries, whether those be for the fridge or freezer. Its in-door ice maker frees up more room in the refrigerator cabinet next to the Bosch's more conventional in-fridge setup. The LG also does a better job of maintaining consistent temperatures across its fridge shelves, though admittedly, the Bosch has a less severe temperature across its doors. The Bosch's more conventional design results in a roomier freezer cabinet, and it does a marginally better job of keeping fresh produce crisp, though it still doesn't do that well in that regard. While part availability for the 100 Series B36FD10ENS isn't stellar, Bosch's network of authorized service providers is more robust than that of LG.
Test Results
The LG LF29H8330S' refrigerator storage capacity is excellent. It's a wide, deep, and fairly tall cabinet, allowing you to cram large items inside without too much difficulty. The ice maker is fully integrated into the unit's door, freeing up space in the fridge cabinet compared to other models with an in-fridge ice maker. The crisper drawers are also quite large and can accommodate bulky produce like melons or lettuce heads fairly easily.
Like the Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF, this fridge has a climate-controlled Full-Convert Drawer that can be used as either additional freezer or fridge space. For the purposes of this review, we've added it to the usable refrigeration volume. You can choose between the following temperature presets:
- Freezer
- Meat/Seafood (30 °F / -1 °C)
- Cold Drink (33 °F / 1 °C)
- Deli/Snacks (37 °F / 3 °C)
- Chilled Wine (41 °F / 5 °C)
The LG LF29H8330S' freezer storage capacity is only alright. Despite the appliance's large external footprint, there isn't that much room inside the freezer, largely due to the reduction in vertical space from the climate-controlled drawer just above. Room on the upper shelf is largely occupied by the high-capacity ice tray: total usable volume increases to 4.21 cu. ft. (119.10 L) with the ice tray removed, a fairly notable increase.
The LG LF29H8330S's cooling system consists of a single evaporator in the freezer and a single inverter-controlled compressor.
An inverter compressor such as this is generally more energy efficient than a fixed-speed compressor. Instead of cycling on and off to maintain a temperature setpoint, they can simply run steadily at a lower speed instead. That said, the inverter controller represents a costly potential failure point.
Single evaporators are standard in budget and mid-range refrigerators. Although their design is simple and well-proven, they can lead to low humidity in the fridge, as cold air is shared with the comparatively dry freezer cabinet.
This fridge has a pair of twist-tray ice makers: the Slim SpacePlus Ice System is built into the fridge door, and the other is in the freezer. Of the two, it's more likely that the in-fridge system will experience some sort of issue first. This design requires additional insulation and ducts, not to mention running water lines through the door, all of which introduce a high number of potential failure points.
While twist-tray ice makers have a simple, space-efficient design, their flexible plastic molds can be rendered brittle from repeated mechanical and thermal stress and eventually crack.
There's a water and ice dispenser in the fridge door, along with an ice crushing function. Pressing the button with your glass turns on the integrated light to help you see how full your glass is in the dark.
Generally speaking, due to the additional water lines and added complexity that come with through-door assemblies, these designs tend to have more potential failure points than in-fridge water dispensers and in-freezer ice makers.
This refrigerator's part availability is okay overall. Components that are commonly replaced in other fridges are usually available from at least one major US parts supplier. That said, the availability of certain critical parts is far more sporadic: if something does go catastrophically wrong with this fridge, you may be stuck with an inoperable appliance for some time while waiting for a part stuck on backorder.
Refrigerator temperature consistency is good, but with an important caveat. There's very little difference in temperature across the refrigerator shelves, so there's no need to be too particular about how you unpack your groceries in the main cabinet. However, despite this fridge purportedly having the same Door Cooling+ vent as other LG refrigerators like the LG LRFLC2706S, it doesn't cool its door bins nearly as well. They're measurably warmer than the rest of the space, so they're best used for chilling drinks.
The freezer exhibits outstanding temperature uniformity throughout. There's minimal difference in temperature between the bins and top shelf, so you can unpack your groceries without having to worry about less-cold spots. Its inverter compressor also results in minimal temperature deviation around the setpoint.
This refrigerator provides mediocre produce preservation performance. Humidity inside the fridge is low due to its single evaporator cooling system, and the produce drawer doesn't seal that tightly. As a result, produce like spinach or celery dries out fairly quickly.
Thanks to this unit's twin ice makers, its combined ice production rate is exceptional. Within a 24-hour period, it can easily provide enough ice for small to medium-sized gatherings.
The breakdown of ice quantities from each ice maker follows:
- Freezer Ice Maker: 1,820 g (4.01 lb)
- Fridge Door Ice Maker: 1,225 g (2.70 lb)
The LG LF29H8330S's combined maximum ice-making capacity is fantastic. If you've taken the time to make sure each tray is full, you should be able to serve iced drinks at a big family gathering or barbeque without running out.
The maximum yield for each ice maker is listed below:
- Freezer Ice Tray: 3,518 g (7.76 lbs)
- Fridge Door Ice Bucket: 1,562 g (3.44 lbs)
