The BELLA 4-Slice Slim is a budget-friendly, long-slot toaster with a compact design. As part of BELLA's 'Fits-anywhere' series of small kitchen appliances, it's meant to fit on cluttered counters and into cramped cabinets, while still offering enough capacity to toast up to four slices of bread at a time. It features six shade settings, along with 'Defrost' and 'Bagel' buttons.
Our Verdict
The BELLA 4-Slice Slim provides decent performance for everyday use. It has an excellent capacity, so you can fit long slices of bakery bread or chunky bagels, but the slots aren't very deep, so taller slices can stick out the top. This model also offers some useful features. There's no cycle countdown indicator, so you can't tell when your toast will be ready, and you can't toast only one side of a bagel. That said, there's a button for defrosting and toasting frozen items, as well as a shade selector dial and a cancel button. Unfortunately, it toasts fairly slowly and unevenly. While it does a good job of evenly browning the surface of your bread, one side comes out significantly darker than the other, and the slots don't toast consistently.
Long, wide slots accommodate a variety of carbs.
Includes 'Defrost' and 'Bagel' buttons.
Doesn't toast evenly.
Toasts fairly slowly.
Shallow slots mean that taller items stick out the top.
No cycle countdown indicator.

Popular Toaster Comparisons
The BELLA 4-Slice Slim is a compact long-slot toaster available at an affordable price. It offers a few extra features compared to its smaller sibling, the BELLA 2-Slice Slim, but its toasting performance is worse. While it provides a good toasting range, producing a spectrum of toast shades from pale to dark brown, you might need two toasting cycles to properly brown dense breads, unlike with the 2-Slice Slim. It also toasts more slowly and less evenly than the 2-Slice version. Other long-slot models also provide better toasting evenness than the BELLA 4-Slice Slim. For example, both the Cuisinart Long Slot CPT-2500 and the Smeg 4-Slice TSF02 produce more evenly browned toast on both sides. That said, the BELLA, Cuisinart, and Smeg all toast somewhat slowly and, like many long-slot toasters, leave a lot of crumbs behind.

The Dash Clear View Long Slot toaster is better than the BELLA 4-Slice Slim for most people. The Dash toasts more quickly and evenly, so your toast comes out more consistently browned on both sides and softer in the center. It offers one-sided toasting, too, which makes it a better choice for bagels, buns, and anything else that's best toasted on one side only. The Dash also includes a viewing window, so you can see when it's time to start buttering. Of course, if you need more capacity, you may still prefer the BELLA, since it has two long slots compared to the Dash's single long slot.
The Black+Decker 4-Slice TR4900SSD is a better toaster than the BELLA 4-Slice Slim for most people. The Black+Decker toasts faster and more evenly, so your toast comes out more evenly browned on both sides and softer in the middle. It has two sets of slots you can operate independently, which is handy for busy mornings, and it leaves fewer crumbs on your counter after toasting. That said, as a long-slot toaster, the BELLA can accommodate longer slices of homemade or bakery bread that don't fit in the Black+Decker's standard slots.
The Breville Die-Cast Smart Toaster is a better choice than the BELLA 4-Slice Slim. When it comes to toasting performance, both models offer similar benefits and drawbacks. They can both toast the surface of a slice of bread evenly, but they leave one side much darker than the other. They also toast somewhat slowly, drying out baked goods in the process. Where the Breville comes out ahead is its range of features. Unlike with the BELLA, you can toast just one side of a bagel or bun. It also includes a cycle countdown indicator and a couple of additional features: 'Lift & Look' lets you lift the slots to check on your toast mid-cycle, and the 'A Bit More' button adds a little extra time to the cycle if your toast is looking too pale.
Since they're from the same lineup, the BELLA 2-Slice Slim and BELLA 4-Slice Slim have some similarities, but overall, the 2-Slice offers better performance. The smaller model, with a single long slot, toasts faster and more evenly, retaining moisture, so you can get darkly toasted bread that's still soft in the middle. It's also smaller, so it's easier to find a space for it on crowded counters, but it's worth noting that the plastic in the center of our unit started to warp the first time we ran it. Beyond those differences, both the 2-Slice and 4-Slice are simple models with few (or no) extra features, and they both leave a pile of crumbs on your counter after toasting.
Test Results
This toaster includes the basic features included in most toasters. It has a button for toasting a bagel on only one side and another for frozen items, but it lacks a cycle countdown indicator. If you prefer a long-slot toaster that lets you see when your toast will be ready, consider the Breville the 'A Bit More' 4 Slice.
