The LG CordZero A9 A916 is a mid-range variant in LG's lineup of cordless stick vacuums, though it differs from more expensive models like the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate mainly in terms of included attachments. It's a fairly basic option that executes well on the essentials, with a lightweight design, intuitive controls, and a relatively diverse set of attachments. It also comes with a pair of battery packs, though you can only charge one at a time. Unfortunately, its dirt compartment is on the smaller side.

Our Verdict

8.0 Bare Floor

The LG CordZero A916 is great for bare floors. It does a fantastic job sucking up pet hair and various kinds of debris on this surface type. It's also maneuverable and comes with a second battery that increases its maximum runtime. Recurring costs are also very low, and it's easy to maintain. However, its dustbin is a little small, so it needs frequent emptying.

Pros
  • Superb performance on bare floors.
  • Exceptional pet hair cleaning performance.
  • Maneuverable design.
  • Very good battery performance.
Cons
  • Fairly small dustbin.
  • Many parts that require regular cleaning.
7.7 Low-Pile Carpet

The LG CordZero A916 is good for low-pile carpet. It clears pet hair and finer debris without much of an issue, though you may need to make another pass to fully clean larger debris. It's easy to maneuver and has a long maximum runtime, thanks to the included second battery. However, it can get caught on rug tassels and has a small dustbin.

Pros
  • Exceptional pet hair cleaning performance.
  • Maneuverable design.
  • Very good battery performance.
Cons
  • Fairly small dustbin.
  • Many parts that require regular cleaning.
8.2 High-Pile Carpet

The LG CordZero A916 is a great option for high-pile carpet. It sucks up pet hair without issue and is effective in clearing away fine and large debris on this surface type. It feels well-built for the most part, though its small clear plastic dustbin does feel quite fragile.

Pros
  • Fantastic performance on high-pile carpet.
  • Exceptional pet hair cleaning performance.
  • Maneuverable design.
  • Very good battery performance.
Cons
  • Fairly small dustbin.
  • Many parts that require regular cleaning.
7.8 Pets

The LG CordZero A916 is a very good option for pet owners. It deals with pet hair very effectively on various surface types, from bare floors to low-pile carpet. Its floorhead's brushroll is easily removable if you want to clear any tangled hair wraps, and the vacuum has a HEPA filter to trap allergens as you clean.

Pros
  • On-board HEPA filter.
  • Exceptional pet hair cleaning performance.
  • Removable brushroll.
  • Maneuverable design.
Cons
  • Many parts that require regular cleaning.
8.7 Stairs

The LG CordZero A916 is excellent for cleaning staircases. Its lightweight construction makes it easy to pick up and carry, and you can quickly reconfigure it into a handheld vacuum to clean tight spots. It also delivers superb performance on bare floors and high-pile carpet and clears a good amount of debris on low-pile carpet.

Pros
  • Superb performance on bare floors.
  • Fantastic performance on high-pile carpet.
  • Maneuverable design.
Cons
  • Many parts that require regular cleaning.
8.1 Cars

The LG CordZero A916 is great for vacuuming the inside of your car. Its cordless design allows you to clean all the parts of your car's interior even if you're parked far from any electrical outlets. It can be easily reconfigured into a handheld vacuum and comes with a turbo brush for removing debris from upholstered surfaces. That said, it does have quite a few parts that need regular cleaning.

Pros
  • Maneuverable design.
  • Very good battery performance.
Cons
  • Many parts that require regular cleaning.
5.6 Workshop

The LG CordZero A9 A916BM is poor for workshop cleaning, though that's a long way from its intended use case. It can easily handle household debris on hard surfaces and can be reconfigured into a handheld vacuum to clear away messes in tight spots, but it isn't designed to clear away liquid spills.

Pros
  • Maneuverable design.
Cons
  • Many parts that require regular cleaning.
  • Not meant for cleaning liquid spills.

Compared To Other Vacuums

The LG CordZero A916 is a versatile cordless stick vacuum. Compared to alternatives like the Dyson V11, it has a smaller dustbin and a slightly less powerful suction motor, though it does come with a second battery that gives it a longer maximum runtime as long as it's kept charged.

If you're looking for alternatives, take a look at our list of recommendations for the best cordless vacuums, the best cordless stick vacuums, and the best cordless vacuums for pet hair.

Dyson V8

The Dyson V8 is slightly better than the LG CordZero A9 A916BM. The Dyson incurs virtually no recurring costs, has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, weighs a little less, and performs better on low-pile carpet. Meanwhile, the LG comes with a second battery that gives it a much longer total runtime and clears more debris on high-pile carpet.

Dyson Cyclone V10

The LG CordZero A9 A916BM is a little better than the Dyson Cyclone V10. The LG comes with a second battery that gives it a longer maximum runtime if you keep it charged and performs better on bare floors and high-pile carpet, especially for fine debris. However, the Dyson incurs virtually no recurring costs, comes with more attachments, and is more effective on low-pile carpet.

Dyson V11

The Dyson V11 and LG CordZero A9 A916BM each have their advantages, so one may suit you better than the other, depending on your needs. The Dyson has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, incurs virtually no recurring costs, has a larger dustbin, and has a surface-type adjustment feature. Conversely, the LG clears more debris on bare floors and high-pile carpet, weighs less, and comes with a second battery that effectively doubles its runtime.

Dyson V15 Detect

The Dyson V15 Detect is slightly better than the LG CordZero A9 A916BM. The Dyson incurs virtually no recurring costs, has a larger dustbin, and features an automatic suction power adjustment feature. It also comes with a few more tools and performs notably better on low-pile carpet. Conversely, the LG comes with a second battery that gives it a longer overall runtime.

Dyson V12 Detect Slim

The Dyson V12 Detect Slim and LG CordZero A9 A916BM each have their own advantages. The Dyson weighs less, is easier to maneuver, and comes with a secondary soft-roller floorhead that helps clear debris on hard surfaces. Conversely, the LG does a better job on carpets, has a larger dustbin, and comes with two batteries, and is a little quieter.

Samsung Jet 90 Complete

The Samsung Jet 90 Complete and LG CordZero A9 A916BM are somewhat evenly-matched vacuums, though each has slight advantages in different areas. The LG has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, comes with a second battery that extends its overall runtime, and clears slightly more debris on high-pile carpet. Meanwhile, the Samsung incurs lower recurring costs, has a larger dustbin, and comes with different brushrolls for bare floors and carpets.

Samsung Jet 70

The Samsung Jet 70 is a little better than the LG CordZero A9 A916BM. The Samsung has a bigger dirt compartment and offers stronger overall suction performance, resulting in superior debris pickup on carpeted floors. Conversely, the LG comes with a pair of batteries, giving it a much longer maximum runtime if you keep both packs charged.

Samsung Bespoke Jet

The Samsung Bespoke Jet is better than the LG CordZero A9 A916BM. The Samsung feels better-built, hsa a slightly larger dirt compartment, and a more powerful suction motor that allows for improved debris pickup performance on carpeted floors. It also comes with a standup charging rack that doubles as a self-emptying station, along with a tool rack with an additional charging station, so you can keep both of its batteries charged simultaneously. Conversely, the LG is a little easier to maneuver.

Shark Cordless Pet Plus

The LG CordZero A9 A916BM is better than the Shark Cordless Pet Plus. The LG is considerably lighter, has fewer parts that need to be cleaned periodically, takes up a little less room when not in use, comes with a highly effective miniature turbo brush attachment, and delivers better debris pickup performance on most surfaces. It also comes with a second battery, yielding a longer maximum runtime as long as you start with a full charge for both packs. On the other hand, the Shark feels a little sturdier and has a higher-capacity dustbin.

Samsung Jet 60

The LG CordZero A9 A916BM and Samsung Jet 60 each have their own strengths, so one might suit you better than the other depending on your exact needs. The LG is better for longer cleaning sessions thanks to its longer runtime and two included batteries. It also delivers better performance on bare floors and comes with a more effective miniature turbo brush attachment. Conversely, the Samsung incurs lower recurring costs, weighs even less, and has a higher-capacity dustbin.

Dyson V7

The LG CordZero A9 A916BM is a little better than the Dyson V7. The LG comes with two batteries, yielding a much longer maximum runtime if you keep them both charged. It also performs significantly better on bare floors and high-pile carpet. However, the Dyson has fewer parts that need periodic cleaning, incurs minimal recurring costs, and, unlike the LG, comes with a turbo brush.

Tineco PURE ONE S11

The LG CordZero A9 A916BM is better than the Tineco PURE ONE S11 for most people. The LG clears more debris on low and high-pile carpet. It also comes with two batteries, enabling you to use it for longer periods in its most powerful suction mode. The LG has less demanding maintenance requirements and is easier to maneuver. On the other hand, the Tineco is a slightly better option for bare floors. Its included soft roller floorhead allows for marginally better debris pickup on hard surfaces and in cracks and crevices, like tile floors. It also has a bigger dirt compartment than the LG.

Shark Rocket Pet Pro

The Shark Rocket Pet Pro and LG CordZero A9 each have advantages, and one may suit you better than the other depending on your needs. The Shark incurs lower recurring costs, has fewer parts requiring regular maintenance, has a bigger dustbin, and is easier to maneuver. It also performs better on low-pile carpet. Conversely, the LG is more effective on high-pile carpet, weighs a little less, and comes with a second battery that yields a longer maximum runtime.

Miele Triflex HX1

The Miele Triflex HX1 and LG CordZero A9 A916BM each have advantages, meaning one might be a better fit for you, depending on your own needs. The Miele is better-built, easier to maintain, incurs lower recurring costs, and performs slightly better on bare floors and low-pile carpet. It also has an automatic surface-type adjustment feature. Conversely, the LG has a larger dustbin, a second battery that gives it a longer maximum runtime, and better performance on high-pile carpet.

Roborock H7

The LG CordZero A9 A916BM is better than the Roborock H7. The LG feels better-built, has fewer parts needing regular cleaning, comes with two batteries, makes a little less noise, and delivers better performance on bare floors and low and high-pile carpets. It exerts a stronger suction force at its floorhead and does a better job cleaning debris in cracks. However, the Roborock does weigh a little bit less, and you can use it as a bagged vacuum.

Build Quality
Vacuum Type
Stick/Handheld

The LG CordZero A916 has passable build quality. It has a mainly plastic body and a metal telescopic wand. The plastic used in its construction looks and feels premium for the most part, though the clear plastic used for its dustbin and top plate of its primary floorhead is a little fragile. You can adjust its suction power via controls on the handle, which you can see here. Assembling and disassembling the LG A916 for regular maintenance or reconfiguring it into a handheld vacuum is easy, but putting together its docking station isn't quite as intuitive and may require a look at the instruction manual.

7.5
Design
User Maintenance

The LG CordZero A916 has some parts that need regular cleaning, but each part is easy to access.

  • Dirt compartment: To empty the dustbin, you just need to hit the release button at the bottom of the bin, which you can see here. Since the dustbin is small, it needs regular emptying. You'll need to use the combination tool to clear any stuck-on dust or debris since you can't wash it under water. Make sure to remove the battery before cleaning it out.
  • Cyclone filter: The cyclone filter is found inside the dustbin. You can remove it from its housing by rotating it counter-clockwise inside its housing. You should clean it under water, then allow it to dry.
  • Exhaust filter: You can remove this part by turning it counter-clockwise. You should clean it with a brush or running water at least once a month before being left to dry out of direct sunlight.
  • Pre-filter: Once you've removed the exhaust filter, you can pull out the pre-filter. You can clean it by using a brush or running it under water at least once a month, but make sure to let it dry out of direct sunlight.
  • Universal Power Nozzle: To remove the floorhead's brushroll, you need to use a flat-blade screwdriver or coin to open the single cover lock, which allows you to flip up the brush cover and pull the brushroll out. You should check it before each use and clean it if needed. You can use the crevice tool on the vacuum to clean it. You can also wipe the remaining debris off of it with a wet cloth.

You must fully air dry any part that's washed with water before using it again.

This vacuum incurs low recurring costs.

  • Exhaust filter: While the filter won't need replacing if well-maintained, you can purchase a replacement from the manufacturer's website if necessary.
  • Pre-filter: Even though the pre-filter is washable, it's still considered a consumable part that you'll need to replace periodically. However, the manufacturer doesn't specify an exact service life. Regardless, you can buy a replacement from the manufacturer's website.

This vacuum's dirt compartment is alright. The upright configuration is reminiscent of older Dyson models like the Dyson V7, and it doesn't hold as much debris as newer stick vacuums such as the Samsung Jet 75. As a result, it needs emptying frequently, but since it's made of clear plastic, you can tell how full it is at a glance.

This vacuum has very good battery performance. The A916BM variant we tested comes with two batteries, allowing you to put one in the vacuum while the other charges on the vacuum's rack station. Each battery yields a maximum of one hour of continuous runtime if this vacuum is run in its default power mode without any power-draining attachments. Using it in its max-suction "Turbo" mode with its floorhead attached drains a single battery in just under eight minutes, which is only a little less than average for a vacuum of this type. The measured runtime marginally exceeds the manufacturer's claims, which state a total runtime of 12 to 100 minutes when using two fully-charged batteries.

This vacuum's real-world suction power is unremarkable. While it isn't underpowered for a vacuum of this type, its multi-surface floorhead doesn't generate quite as tight a seal against the ground as similar vacuums like the Dyson V11.

8.8
Performance
Noise
Bare Floor
65.8 dBA
Low-Pile Carpet
72.0 dBA

The LG CordZero A9 doesn't make that much noise. In its default power setting, it's quieter than alternatives like the Samsung Jet 70. However, ramping up to the 'Power' and 'Turbo' settings, it does get noticeably louder. Regardless, you can still hear what someone nearby is saying with the vacuum running, though they'll have to speak somewhat loudly.

7.5
Performance
Maneuverability

The LG CordZero A9 has good maneuverability. It's lightweight and has an articulating head, making it easy to clean around furniture. It's also easy to adjust the telescopic wand's height and attach or remove different tools. However, the wand isn't flexible, like on the Shark Vertex Pro, so you have to crouch pretty deeply to clean under sofas and low-lying tables. The floorhead's brushroll can get caught in rug tassels or especially dense carpets, requiring you to turn the vacuum off and remove the obstruction. Also, while its storage rack has room for two accessories, accessing whichever tool is mounted at the back can be a little tricky.

8.0
Performance
Pet Hair Furniture Performance
Sofa Pickup Post Test

This vacuum does a great job of handling pet hair on furniture with its Pet Nozzle turbo brush tool. The attachment's silicone fins are highly effective in collecting pet hair without having it get tangled in the mechanism. While the vacuum's performance in this regard is quite good in its default power mode, it's more efficient to use it in its middleweight 'Power' setting, as you'll probably only need to make a single pass to clear away everything.

Performance
Air Quality
Anti-Allergy Filter (HEPA)
Yes

Thanks to its onboard HEPA filter, this vacuum's dustbin is effective in sealing in fine allergens. However, finer particles can still escape from the front of its brushroll.

7.0
Performance
Cracks
Wood Cracks Post Test

The LG CordZero A9 does a decent job of handling debris in crevices with its floorhead. It'll clear away debris in shallow cracks, like what you'd find on tile floors, but it doesn't generate quite as tight a seal as what's needed to draw out debris in deeper cracks. If you're vacuuming deeper crevices, use it in its 'Turbo' setting with the crevice tool.

3.5
Performance
Stains
Stain Pickup Post Test

This vacuum has no significant impact on stains when used with its default floorhead. However, it is compatible with LG's Power Drive Mop attachment, which uses tap water and a pair of rating mop pads to scrub away dried-on stains. It's important to note that this attachment isn't currently available as a standalone item from the manufacturer's US store and that we haven't yet tested this attachment.
