The Vitamix VX1 is a full-size blender designed as an entry point into Vitamix's lineup. It uses the same narrow 64-ounce Tritan jar found on the Vitamix 5200 and takes a similar no-frills approach, with simple manual controls, no smart features, and minimal presets. There's a stepless speed dial that runs from 1 to 10, a dedicated pulse switch, and a single 35-second self-cleaning program. The two-part lid, tamper, and metal-toothed gear system carry over from other Vitamix models, but the cord storage found on older Vitamix blenders has been removed.

Our Verdict

8.7
Multi-Purpose

The Vitamix VX1 is an excellent all-around blender. It handles common blending tasks easily, tackling everything from leafy green smoothies and frozen drinks to creamy nut butter and silky hot soups. The 64-ounce jar is big enough for family-sized batches, and the build quality holds up well to regular use. It's also reasonably quiet for a high-powered blender. Daily upkeep is easy, but it's very difficult to reach buildup under the blade.

Pros
  • Blends leafy greens into a smooth, drinkable texture.

  • Crushes ice into a fine snow.

  • Feels solidly-built.

  • Large jar handles multiple servings at once.

  • Safe for hot ingredients and hot blending.

Cons
  • Buildup under the blade is hard to clean without a special tool.

8.7
Smoothies (Single Serving)

The Vitamix VX1 is excellent for making single-serving smoothies. It blends leafy greens into a smooth texture without leaving fibrous bits behind, and it crushes ice effectively, keeping frozen smoothies from feeling chunky. The motor is powerful enough that most blends come together in under a minute. While day-to-day cleaning is easy, residue can build up under the blade over time, and getting to it requires removing the blade bolt.

Pros
  • Blends leafy greens into a smooth, drinkable texture.

  • Crushes ice into a fine snow.

  • Feels solidly-built.

Cons
  • Buildup under the blade is hard to clean without a special tool.

8.6
Smoothies (Multiple Servings)

The Vitamix VX1 is excellent for making multi-serving smoothies. The 64-ounce jar holds enough for several drinks at once, and it powers through tricky ingredients like kale to deliver a smooth, drinkable texture without leaving stringy bits behind. It also crushes ice into a fine snow, so frozen ingredients blend in cleanly without leaving chunks. In terms of cleaning, quick rinses and the self-cleaning cycle handle daily upkeep, but residue can build up under the blade over time and can be tricky to clean.

Pros
  • Blends leafy greens into a smooth, drinkable texture.

  • Crushes ice into a fine snow.

  • Feels solidly-built.

  • Large jar handles multiple servings at once.

Cons
  • Buildup under the blade is hard to clean without a special tool.

8.8
Ice Crushing

The Vitamix VX1 is excellent for crushing ice. It turns cubes into a fine, snow-like texture that's perfect for frozen drinks. The 64-ounce jar can handle larger loads, though smaller batches of around six cubes are ideal to keep the freshly crushed snow from collecting under the blades.

Pros
  • Crushes ice into a fine snow.

  • Feels solidly-built.

Cons
None
9.2
Soups

The Vitamix VX1 is outstanding for making soups. It can handle hot ingredients, blending cooked vegetables and broth into a silky texture without any unprocessed chunks or fibers left behind. The 64 oz jar holds enough for a family-sized batch, and it processes fibrous ingredients like leafy greens or stringy vegetables that often give weaker blenders trouble. However, there is one quirk when it comes to cleaning. Residue can build up under the blade over time and be difficult to clean.

Pros
  • Feels solidly-built.

  • Large jar handles multiple servings at once.

  • Safe for hot ingredients and hot blending.

Cons
  • Buildup under the blade is hard to clean without a special tool.

8.8
Professional Use

The Vitamix VX1 is excellent for demanding daily use. It handles the toughest blending tasks with ease, including making smooth, creamy nut butter, breaking down large quantities of fibrous ingredients, crushing ice into a fine snow, and processing piping hot ingredients without issue. The 64 oz jar is big enough for full-sized recipes, and the build feels sturdy enough to withstand heavy use. The only real weak point is cleaning. Buildup can collect under the blade and be difficult to remove, which makes deep cleaning a hassle in a high-volume setting.

    Popular Blender Comparisons

The Vitamix VX1 sits at the entry point of Vitamix's full-size lineup, offering the brand's core blending performance without the smart features, presets, or digital controls found on higher-end models. It's effectively a modern take on the Vitamix 5200, sharing the same tall 64-ounce jar and manual dial-based control system, but with the addition of a self-cleaning program. It runs noticeably quieter than the 5200 and other older Vitamix models like the Vitamix Explorian E310. Compared to models in the premium Ascent X-series, like the Vitamix Ascent X2, you're trading automatic blending programs, a digital timer, and Self-Detect jar compatibility for a simpler, more affordable user experience. The VX1 is best suited for buyers who want the durability and blending power Vitamix is known for without paying for features they won't use.

    Build Quality

The Vitamix VX1 has great build quality. It uses the same 64-ounce BPA-free Tritan jar found on the 5200, though it adds a rubber handle cover for a more comfortable grip. The motor base and jar connect through Vitamix's standard metal-toothed gear system, which holds up well over time.

That said, the plastic body creaks slightly under pressure and feels like a small step down from the models in the higher-end Ascent series. The base also lacks a sensor that prevents the motor from running when the jar isn't installed, which is something to be mindful of around kids.

This blender comes with a 5-year limited warranty, and you can extend coverage by three additional years for $75 USD.

The Vitamix VX1 uses a two-part lid that seals when you push down on it, with two tabs that hook under the jar's lip to lock it in place. The center cap pops out so you can use the tamper or add ingredients while blending. The cap also doubles as a 2-ounce (59 ml) measuring cup.

The cord is significantly shorter than that of the Vitamix 5200, but it should still be long enough to reach a kitchen outlet. There's also no cord storage under the blender, so it's a little trickier to keep your countertop looking tidy.

This blender does an outstanding job of blending small batches of fibrous ingredients. It breaks down leafy greens like kale into a perfectly smooth texture in just under a minute. Starting on a low speed and gradually increasing keeps ingredients closer to the blades. Jumping straight to a higher setting is faster, but pushes more material up the sides, so you'll need to stop and scrape once or twice.

This blender does an amazing job of processing fibrous ingredients at full capacity. It produces a smooth texture with only a few particles visible, though you'll need to use the tamper throughout to keep ingredients moving toward the blades. It'll take just over two minutes to break down the bigger pieces, and running it longer to catch every bit tends to whip air and bubbles into the smoothie.

This blender does an excellent job of crushing ice. It turns cubes into a fine, snow-like texture with only a few small bits left over. It struggles to crush large batches of ice, so for the best results, run smaller batches of around six cubes at a time.

The Vitamix VX1 is great at making nut butter. It produces a very smooth, creamy texture with no graininess. It's an easy process, but it takes about five minutes and requires consistent tamping to push the nuts down toward the blades.

The Vitamix VX1 is relatively quiet for a blender. It's noticeably quieter than the Vitamix 5200, which may be due to a slightly lower maximum blade speed.

    Cleaning

The Vitamix VX1 is decently easy to clean. The jar's wide opening fits a sponge or brush, and the smooth plastic tamper has no deep crevices to trap residue. The blades are sharp, so you'll want to be careful when cleaning around them.

The main issue is buildup underneath the blade assembly, which is nearly impossible to clean without removing the bolt holding the blades in place.
