The NuWave OxyPure is a high-end air purifier. Its main selling point is its novel reusable filtration system, which uses washable pre-filters, 'Bio-Guard' filters, and pellet-type activated carbon filters that the manufacturer advertises to last 20 years without needing replacement. As befits a high-priced machine like this, the NuWave also boasts Wi-Fi connectivity and built-in particle sensors that allow it to change its fan speed depending on ambient air quality.
Our Verdict
The NuWave OxyPure is an excellent choice for pet owners. Its multi-stage filtration system allows it to trap a variety of particle sizes, and it has a sufficiently high clean air delivery rate to operate efficiently in larger rooms. While it's somewhat noisy at higher fan speeds, it's pretty quiet in its less powerful settings, which is good if you leave it running for extended periods with your pet at home.
- Unique filtration system keeps costs of ownership low.
Excellent clean air delivery rate.
- Has many filters that need regular cleaning.
Noisy at higher fan speeds.
The NuWave OxyPure air purifier is great for bedrooms, though perhaps a little much for smaller spaces, with a very high clean air delivery rate and excellent particle filtration. It can get a little loud at higher fan speeds, but it's pretty quiet for a machine of this size at lower settings. The dedicated 'SLEEP' mode turns off the indicator lights but doesn't reduce fan speed, so you'll have to set that manually.

Popular Air Purifier Comparisons
The NuWave OxyPure is a high-end air purifier. Its closest natural competitor, in terms of sizing, price, and features, would be the Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP04/BP03. The Dyson has the edge in terms of noise. That said, the NuWave purifier pulls ahead regarding actual particle filtration performance and incurs lower ownership costs due to its washable filters.

The Blueair Blue Signature Large is a better-performing air purifier than the NuWave OxyPure. The Blueair has a higher maximum clean air delivery rate, allowing it to perform more effectively in larger spaces, and also has a higher particle filtration rate at quieter fan speeds. Beyond that, the Blueair is quieter across its highest and lowest fan speed settings. Lastly, the Blueair's furniture-like design blends into the background more seamlessly than the very bulky Nuwave, and can serve as a small table. With that being said, it's important to note that while the Blueair's ionizer system is rated to produce a negligible amount of ozone, the system can't be disabled, which can be a respiratory hazard for people and pets who suffer from ozone sensitivity. The Nuwave suffers from no such issue.
The Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max is the better option than the NuWave OxyPure if air-cleaning performance is your main concern. Both are designed for larger spaces and offer app connectivity, automatic fan adjustment, and strong overall filtration performance, but the Blueair delivers a higher clean air delivery rate and maintains stronger performance at quieter fan speeds. It's also significantly quieter than the NuWave at its highest setting, despite covering more ground and cleaning the air more efficiently. The NuWave's main advantage is that it runs slightly quieter at its lowest fan speed, though it gives up considerably more air-cleaning performance in its quieter modes. It also relies solely on mechanical filtration with no ionizer, which may appeal to those who prefer to avoid that technology altogether.
The Coway Airmega 400 is a slightly better air purifier overall than the NuWave OxyPure, though the two are closely matched on air-cleaning performance. Both are built for larger spaces and deliver excellent particle filtration, but the Coway edges ahead with stronger overall filtration and quieter operation. The NuWave is a compelling alternative, particularly in terms of cost. Its filtration system is unusual in that it relies largely on washable filters with an advertised lifespan of up to 20 years, which can make it significantly cheaper to run over time compared to the Airmega 400's two replaceable cartridges that Coway recommends swapping out annually. The NuWave also adds smartphone app connectivity and a broader range of operating modes.
The NuWave OxyPure is a slightly better-performing air purifier than the Rabbit Air A3. The NuWave has a small edge in terms of clean air delivery rate at both its highest fan speed and in quieter configurations, making it the more effective option for larger spaces. However, the Rabbit makes less noise while running and has a slightly shorter, slimmer profile, and it can be wall-mounted to keep it off your floor with a wall bracket that you'll need to purchase separately.
Test Results
The underside of this air purifier has a quartet of caster wheels that make it easy to roll around, at least on bare surfaces like vinyl or hardwood. You can see the wheels here.
This unit is also rather bulky. If you want a similarly performing air purifier that can be wall-mounted to reduce its footprint, the Rabbit Air A3 is a good option, though it's important to note that wall-mounting it requires a bracket that you'll need to purchase separately.
This air purifier's display has separate indicator lights that show the status of its Wi-Fi connection and filter health. The 'Air' and 'Odor' dials are color-coded to give you a quick estimate of current air quality based on particulate matter counts and noxious gas levels, respectively. In descending order:
- Green
- Yellow
- Gold
- Orange
- Pink
- Red
There are also separate buttons to engage the 'Auto' mode, which allows the device to set fan speed depending on current air quality, 'Ultimate Clean' mode, which is similar to the 'Auto' function but defaults to the highest fan speed required, and 'Eco' mode, which causes the device to run the fan only when needed to save energy. The 'Turbo' mode sets the device to its highest fan speed for 1/2 an hour, one hour, or two hours. There's also a 'Timer' button that lets you manually set the length of its operation in any mode: you can have it run for 1/2, 2, 4, 8, or 12 hours before turning off.
You can use the NuWave Connect App to remotely operate the air purifier, monitor current air quality, or check filter health.
The NuWave OxyPure has a somewhat novel filtration system. It consists of a stainless steel mesh pre-filter, two 'Bio-Guard' filters (which the manufacturer advertises to trap bacteria, mold, and viruses), an ozone removal filter, and a combination HEPA/pellet-type activated carbon filter.
The pre-filter, ozone filter, and Bio-Guard filter are washable and have an advertised lifespan of 20 years. You can clean the Bio-Guard and steel pre-filters under water every 3 to 6 months and every 1 to 2 months, respectively. However, you can't wash the ozone filter under water. Meanwhile, you're intended to replace the HEPA/Carbon filter after a year. You can find a replacement here.
This unit's maximum clean air delivery rate is excellent. At its highest fan speed, it's well-suited for large, open-concept living areas and can be set up as a single unit in spaces like an open-concept apartment.
If you have an exceptionally large living area or open-concept floor plan, consider the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max, which offers even broader room coverage.
This air purifier's particle filtration rate in a low-noise configuration is impressive. In its 3 fan speed setting, it can maintain low particle levels in larger living rooms or open-concept areas. That said, it lags slightly behind the Blueair Blue Signature Large in this respect, which is an even better option for larger spaces.
This air purifier can be impressively quiet, though that's largely contingent on what setting you leave it in. At its lowest fan speed, it's very hushed, and its operating noise will be masked by a nearby television, so it won't be a major disturbance if you leave it running as you sleep. That said, this unit does get quite loud at its highest fan speed, to the point where it can be tricky to hold a conversation nearby. Alternatively, if you want an even quieter option with impressively low noise levels across all fan speeds, consider the Dyson HushJet.
