The Fresh Juice Portable Blender is a small battery-powered blender with a 13oz jar meant for making drinks like smoothies and protein shakes on the go. The blender is small and light enough to carry around with the motor base attached, or you can detach the motor base and bring the bottle alone. However, its battery-powered design means it's less powerful than most plug-in personal blenders, and you must ensure it's charged before use.

Our Verdict

4.5 Multi-Purpose

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender is poor for multi-purpose use. It's best suited for blending simple smoothies, protein shakes, or juice recipes and struggles with stubborn ingredients like kale or blueberries. As expected for a portable personal blender, it's not good at crushing ice and can't handle more difficult jobs like making nut butter. It's reasonably sturdy and quiet for a blender but isn't versatile. It's advertised to provide about 20 blending cycles (30 seconds each) on a full battery, which is enough for a couple of smoothies but quite limiting if you're looking for a multi-purpose blender.

Pros
  • Light and small.
  • Quiet.
Cons
  • Doesn't smoothly blend fibrous ingredients.
  • Small 13oz capacity.
  • Struggles to crush ice.
6.2 Smoothies (Single Serving)

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender isn't bad for single-serve smoothies. It can't smoothly blend any recipe since it struggles to fully process fibrous ingredients like fruit skin and leafy greens. However, its battery-powered design makes it portable, so you can bring it with you and blend a post-workout shake or smoothie. It's light and quiet when running, which is nice for a portable blender, and it's decently easy to clean by hand.

Pros
  • Light and small.
  • Quiet.
  • Portable, battery powered design.
Cons
  • Doesn't smoothly blend fibrous ingredients.
  • Struggles to crush ice.
4.6 Smoothies (Multiple Servings)

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender isn't well-suited for making multiple servings of smoothies. The jar has a 13oz blending capacity, so you can only blend one serving at once. It's not ideal for blending several smoothies one after another either since you need to blend for several minutes to get the best results. It won't do a great job with smoothie recipes that include stubborn ingredients like kale or big chunks of ice.

Pros
  • Quiet.
Cons
  • Doesn't smoothly blend fibrous ingredients.
  • Small 13oz capacity.
  • Struggles to crush ice.
3.6 Ice Crushing

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender is bad at crushing ice. The jar can't hold many ice cubes at once, and the blades have trouble breaking them down into crushed ice. It can make a bit of crushed ice if you run several blending cycles and shake the blender while it runs, but it's not powerful enough to make uniform, snow-like ice with no chunks leftover.

Pros
  • Quiet.
Cons
  • Small 13oz capacity.
  • Struggles to crush ice.
2.2 Soups

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender isn't suitable for soups. This portable personal blender isn't safe to use to process hot ingredients and struggles to make a smooth blend with fibrous vegetables like kale or broccoli. The 13oz jar isn't big enough to fit most recipes in one batch.

Pros
  • Quiet.
Cons
  • Doesn't smoothly blend fibrous ingredients.
  • Small 13oz capacity.
3.0 Professional Use

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender isn't suitable for professional use. It's meant for blending personal beverages on the go and doesn't have a versatile performance or a convenient design for multi-purpose use. It makes a grainy blend with fibrous ingredients and struggles with hard ingredients like ice cubes and thicker mixtures like nut butter. You need to ensure it's charged before use and can't use it while charging.

Pros
  • Quiet.
Cons
  • Doesn't smoothly blend fibrous ingredients.
  • Small 13oz capacity.
  • Struggles to crush ice.
  • 4.5 Multi-Purpose
  • 6.2 Smoothies (Single Serving)
  • 4.6 Smoothies (Multiple Servings)
  • 3.6 Ice Crushing

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender comes in four colors: 'White', 'Black', 'Pink', and 'Yellow'. We tested it in white, and you can see the label for the unit we tested here. The Fresh Juice Portable Blender+ and Fresh Juice Bottle Blender V4 are similar products from the same company, but they aren't exactly the same and our results aren't valid for those models.

If you come across another variant, let us know in the forums, and we'll update our review.

Compared To Other Blenders

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender is a battery-powered personal blender that you can use as a travel cup with or without the motor base attached. Like other portable blenders we've tested, including the BlendJet 2 and NutriBullet GO, it makes a grainy blend with fibrous ingredients and struggles to crush ice cubes. It won't make a silky puree with every smoothie recipe, but its design is lightweight and convenient since the jar can open on both ends for easier cleaning. The PopBabies Portable Blender is less convenient to use and clean since it only has one small opening for adding ingredients. Still, it has a more powerful motor and does a better job of blending stubborn elements like fruit skin and leafy greens.

Check out our recommendations for the best personal blenders, the best bullet blenders, and the best blenders for smoothies.

BlendJet 2

The BlendJet 2 is better than the Fresh Juice Portable Blender. They're both battery-powered blenders and perform similarly, but the BlendJet has a better build quality, and its design is easier to clean. However, you might like that you can carry the Fresh Juice blender around with the motor base attached or without, making it lighter.

Ninja Blast

The Ninja Blast is better than the Fresh Juice Portable Blender. The Ninja is sturdier and produces smoother blends with common smoothie ingredients like fruit and leafy greens. Its jar has a somewhat bigger capacity. However, the Fresh Juice has a cover for the bottom and top of the jar, so you don't need to carry the blades around everywhere. It's also easier to clean by hand.

Cuisinart EvolutionX Cordless Rechargeable Personal Blender

The Cuisinart EvolutionX Cordless Rechargeable Personal Blender and the Fresh Juice Portable Blender have different strengths. The design of the Fresh Juice lets you drink from the jar with the blade assembly attached if you wish. It's lighter overall and quieter. However, the Cuisinart has a better overall blending performance. It makes smoother blends with fibrous ingredients common in smoothies like fruit and leafy greens.

PopBabies Portable Blender

The PopBabies Portable Blender is better than the Fresh Juice Portable Blender for most purposes. The PopBabies blender is more powerful, blends a smoothie faster, and makes a smoother (but not completely smooth) blend with fibrous ingredients. On the other hand, it has a small opening that can't fit regular-sized ice cubes, also making it harder to clean. The Fresh Juice avoids that problem because its jar can open on both ends. It's also quieter.

Xibonol Portable Blender

The Fresh Juice Portable Blender is better than the Xibonol Portable Blender. The Fresh Juice is sturdier and makes a better-blended smoothie with fibrous ingredients more quickly. However, the Xibonol is easier to clean by hand and comes with a slightly bigger 16oz jar.

It's small and lightweight, like other battery-powered models we've tested. When you take the blender to-go, you can keep the motor base attached or replace it with a screw-on cover. The weight of the jar and lid alone is 0.6 lbs (0.3 kg).

Build Quality

It's fairly well-built. The blender is made of regular plastic and has a safety feature that prevents it from running unless the jar is docked. The jar lids feel thin, and some parts have a shiny plastic coating that looks like it might peel off. The power button on the underside of the motor base also seems loose. You can easily push one side down, as seen in a video here. If you want a sturdier blender, try the Ninja Blast or the Cuisinart EvolutionX Cordless Rechargeable Personal Blender.

The jar's 13oz capacity is small but well-suited for single-serve smoothies and other drinks. The jar's total capacity (filled to the rim) is about 20oz, but the manufacturer says that you shouldn't fill above the point where the carrying handle sits around the neck of the bottle, which acts as a maximum fill line.

It's disappointing for processing small batches of fibrous ingredients. Each blending cycle lasts for 30 seconds, which is a little longer than other portable blenders' 20-second blending cycles. However, you must run several cycles to get the best results. Even after more than five minutes of blending, it struggles to process fibrous ingredients like kale, resulting in a grainy puree. Bits of kale can also get stuck between the sides of the jar and the motor base, and there's no way to dislodge them without unscrewing the motor base.

4.5

It's not good for crushing ice. Running several blending cycles and shaking the blender almost constantly can make a bit of crushed ice. However, it can only hold about three ice cubes and doesn't manage to crush all of them. This is typical for battery-powered blenders, which usually have small blades and relatively low power.

It can't make nut butter. You need to shake the jar vigorously to get it to crush the ingredients. Even after nearly 10 minutes of blending, the best it can do is make a crumbly paste with some of the nuts, with the rest completely unprocessed. Using the blender for this purpose also drains the battery, so you'll run out of power before you're satisfied with the final result.

As expected for a portable blender with a fairly weak motor, it's very quiet for a blender. It'll be less noisy than most plug-in personal blenders like the Magic Bullet Mini if you use it to blend an early-morning smoothie at home or for a protein shake during your lunch break.

Cleaning

It's decently easy to clean. You can unscrew the motor base from the jar to reach the blades more easily, but you still need to use a brush or sponge to clean the blades and the ridge around the bottom of the base. According to the manufacturer, the base is waterproof but shouldn't be immersed in water. You may also need to use a brush to reach into the jar. If you want a blender that's easier to clean, try the Xibonol Portable Blender.
