While the newest, most premium toaster ovens are often designed to fit almost anything you'd put in a regular oven, the space-challenged among us might still want something small. More compact options naturally can't fit bigger dishes (most options here won't fit the average frozen pizza), but you can still get feature-packed models that air fry, bake, and broil, all in a small package. Smaller ovens preheat faster, too, so even basic options can shine when you need a quick snack or want to reheat leftovers.
We've tested more than 20 models, and below are our recommendations for the best small toaster ovens. If you want to see what else is on the market or think a medium-sized oven would work better for you, check out our overview of the best toaster ovens. Or, if you plan to do a lot of air frying in your toaster oven, one of the best air fryer toaster ovens or best small air fryers might be a better choice.

Best Small Toaster Oven
Cooking Capacity7.2Countertop Footprint7.7Maximum Pizza Size11.0" (27.9 cm)Mixed Usage8.0Baking8.7Air Frying7.5See all our test resultsToasting8.0The best small toaster oven we've tested is the Ninja Flip SP151. This toaster oven has a compact design and a space-saving trick: you can flip it backward when not in use, saving counter space. Plus, its wide cooking chamber offers more surface area than many smaller toaster ovens, so it can fit an 11-inch frozen pizza or six slices of sandwich bread at once. Overall, it's an impressive choice for multi-purpose use. It does a good job of evenly toasting four or six slices of bread at once, although it's not the fastest toaster. It also maintains a mostly stable temperature during cooking, which helps you get good results when baking. And while it doesn't quite match the performance of a good basket-style air fryer, it works well for making crispy, golden-brown foods like fries and wings.
There are also a few downsides to its unique design. The cooking chamber doesn't have much vertical space, so something like a loaf pan might not fit. It's also more awkward to reach into and clean than in more spacious ovens, especially since the cooking chamber interior doesn't have a non-stick coating. That said, if you're looking for a compact toaster oven with an impressive multi-purpose performance, the trade-off will probably be worth it.

Best Upper Mid-Range Small Toaster
Cooking Capacity7.0Countertop Footprint8.1Maximum Pizza Size11.0" (27.9 cm)Mixed Usage7.0Baking9.1Air Frying3.9See all our test resultsToasting8.1If you're willing to sacrifice a couple of features for a less premium price, the Breville the Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL is an impressive option. It has a smaller countertop footprint than the Ninja Flip SP151, but its cooking chamber is taller, with three possible rack positions, so you have more options for where to place your food. You can even bake a couple of trays of cookies at once on different levels or fit an 11-inch pizza. Thanks to its exceptionally stable temperature, this air fryer is a fantastic choice for baking, since your baked goods are less likely to dry out or burn. It's also a good choice for toasting since it's faster than the Ninja, although it can only fit four slices of bread. This toaster oven preheats quickly, too, so you don't have to wait long before popping in a quick snack or plate of leftovers.
This small toaster oven isn't quite as versatile as the Ninja Flip SP151: it doesn't have an air fry feature or a fan for convection baking, so it won't work as well for your favorite crispy snacks like chicken wings. Still, it offers a range of cooking modes for typical toaster-oven tasks, such as toasting, reheating, and broiling. It's decently easy to clean, and its interior has a non-stick coating. However, it's awkward to reach behind the upper elements.

Best Mid-Range Small Toaster Oven
Cooking Capacity6.3Countertop Footprint8.7Maximum Pizza Size9.0" (22.9 cm)Mixed Usage7.0Baking8.9Air Frying4.7See all our test resultsToasting7.5For a simpler option at a mid-range price, take a look at the Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G11OP. It takes up significantly less space on your counter than the Breville the Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL, though it also has a smaller capacity. There's still space to bake a 9-inch pizza or toast four slices of bread at once, but there's just one rack position, so unlike the Breville, you can't use two trays at once. It can't toast as evenly as the picks above, but it still does a decent job, and it finishes toasting significantly faster. Preheating doesn't take quite as long either, so it's a good choice for leftovers and quick snacks. Throughout the cooking process, its temperature stays very stable, making it easy to follow recipes and ensuring baked goods don't dry out or burn too quickly.
Like the Breville, the biggest trade-off with this option is its lack of versatility. It doesn't have a fan, so you can't use it for air frying or convection baking. It also lacks a broil feature, making certain tasks, like browning the top of a tuna melt, trickier. The timer tops out at 25 minutes, too, and there's no 'Stay On' option, like some other small models, which can be a bit inconvenient. On the bright side, it's the easiest model on the list to clean, which is impressive for such a compact toaster oven.

Best Budget Small Toaster Oven
Cooking Capacity5.4Countertop Footprint8.4Maximum Pizza Size9.0" (22.9 cm)Mixed Usage5.6Baking7.9Air Frying2.0See all our test resultsToasting7.3The best compact toaster oven we've tested at a budget-friendly price is the Black+Decker Natural Convection 4-Slice TO1756SB. It's a simple option that's usually available for well under $70. At this price point, we start to see a few more trade-offs. This option takes up more countertop real estate than the Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P, while also having less space in the cooking chamber. That being said, the difference is mainly in vertical space, so while there's probably not enough room for a small tray of muffins to rise, it'll still fit four slices of bread or a 9-inch pizza. It toasts more evenly than the Panasonic, but it takes significantly longer to produce results. However, it preheats fast and has good temperature stability, so it's a good option for reheating leftovers or baking.
Unsurprisingly, this model doesn't include a fan or air fry setting, so you're limited to four simple modes: 'Warm,' 'Broil,' 'Bake,' and 'Toast.' The timer only goes up to 30 minutes, just a little longer than the Panasonic, but it has a 'Stay On' option, so you can keep it cooking as long as you want. It's also more difficult to clean than the previous picks, since it's hard to reach behind both the upper and lower elements, and the cooking chamber lacks a non-stick coating.

Best Cheap Small Toaster Oven
Cooking Capacity3.7Countertop Footprint9.8Maximum Pizza Size5.0" (12.7 cm)Mixed Usage2.8Baking1.4Air Frying0.3See all our test resultsToasting8.1If you're looking for the smallest, least expensive toaster oven on the market and plan to use it mainly for toast, the Dash Mini DMTO100 is worth considering. It's typically available for less than $30, and it's the smallest model we've tested by a significant margin. Only one slice of bread fits into the cooking chamber, and it fits easily onto a shelf or into a tight corner. It toasts only slightly less evenly than the Black+Decker Natural Convection 4-Slice TO1756SB, and it produces results fast. In fact, it toasts faster than all the pricier models on this list, thanks to its tiny size. It preheats quickly, too, so it's a decent choice for reheating leftovers, though the temperature fluctuates a lot, so you'll have to keep a close eye on the food to prevent burning.
Beyond these uses, however, the Dash Mini doesn't offer much functionality. It doesn't have a fan for air frying, a broil mode, or even any temperature control or preset cooking modes. Instead, you simply adjust the cooking time up to a maximum of 15 minutes. It's also a pain to clean, mainly because it's so small; grease builds up quickly, and it's challenging to maneuver your hand inside the small cooking chamber. With all that in mind, if you're looking for a toaster oven that will fit in a cramped kitchen or dorm room, this pint-sized model makes pretty good toast.

BALMUDA The Toaster:
The BALMUDA The Toaster is a very small toaster oven with room for just two slices of bread, so it's even smaller than the Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P. It's one of the most expensive toaster ovens we've tested and one of the least versatile, but you might want to check it out for its very small size or its steam function.
