The Fritaire is a 6-quart air fryer with enough capacity to serve about four people. This model stands out for its unique design; it has a glass bowl, which allows you to see your food as it cooks, with a heater and fan located on top. It also comes with several attachments, including a 'Tumbler Basket' and 'Rotisserie.' The control panel on the 'Top Burner Lid' features a handful of preset cooking options, including 'Fries,' 'Chicken,' and 'Dehydrate.'

Our Verdict

5.7
Air Frying

The Fritaire air fryer is sub-par. It delivers disappointing frying performance, producing fried food that is mostly either undercooked or burnt. It's not a very versatile option, either. This air fryer has a wide range of temperature settings, but without the ability to adjust the fan speed, and with only one preset cooking mode (dehydrate), it's not ideal for most other applications. It also takes a long time to cook, likely due to its fairly low maximum power draw.

Pros
None
Cons
  • Produces disappointing-quality fried food.

  • Preheats and cooks slowly.

  • Lacks versatility.

6.4
Large Batch Cooking

The Fritaire air fryer is not bad for large-batch cooking. It offers a reasonable cooking capacity and an alright amount of surface area, so you can spread food out in a single layer. However, it doesn't cook evenly, producing fried food with disappointing quality. It doesn't offer much versatility, either, so it's not ideal for alternate cooking methods. Plus, it cooks fairly slowly, so you'll have to wait a while for crispy results when cooking multiple batches.

Pros
  • Six-quart cooking capacity is large enough for about four people.

Cons
  • Produces disappointing-quality fried food.

  • Preheats and cooks slowly.

  • Lacks versatility.

5.4
Frying Performance

The Fritaire air fryer delivers disappointing frying performance. When you cook air fryer classics like fries, wings, or veggies, less than half of each batch wind up well-cooked, while the rest are either undercooked or burnt. Using the included Tumbler Basket improves the quality, but the results are still just alright. This air fryer takes a long time to reheat after you add food, since you have to remove the 'Top Burner Lid' to access the cooking chamber. Even once it gets back up to the set temperature, however, it takes a long time to cook.

Pros
None
Cons
  • Produces disappointing-quality fried food.

  • Preheats and cooks slowly.

  • Takes a long time to reheat after adding food.

6.9
Cooking Capacity

The Fritaire air fryer has a fair amount of cooking capacity. Its 6-quart capacity is enough to cook for about four people at a time, and its basket has adequate surface area, so you can spread food out for crispier results.

Pros

    Popular Air Fryer Comparisons

The Fritaire is a 6-quart air fryer with a unique design. Unlike most models, it comes in a range of color options and has a glass cooking chamber, which allows you to monitor your food as it cooks. Unfortunately, it offers worse performance than most other air fryers. Compared to similarly-sized models, like the Beautiful 6qt Digital (which also comes in a range of hues), it produces much worse-quality fried food, leaving more than half of each batch either undercooked or burnt. The COSORI TurboBlaze, which has just a little more capacity, offers much more versatility, with more options for temperature settings, fan speeds, and preset cooking modes. The Instant Vortex Plus 140-3088-01, another similarly-sized model, offers faster cooking speeds, crisping up your food significantly faster. The Fritaire is a bit more compact than these models, but it also offers less cooking surface area, so it's harder to spread your food out in a single layer. Ultimately, this air fryer won't be worth it for most people, though some may prefer it for its size, eye-catching design, or its included accessories, including a Tumbler Basket and Rotisserie.

If you're curious what we recommend, see our picks for the best air fryers, the best small air fryers, and the best large-capacity air fryers.

    Ninja Crispi FN101GY

The Ninja Crispi FN101GY is a better air fryer than the Fritaire. Both options feature glass cooking chambers, so you can keep an eye on your recipe as it cooks. The Fritaire includes attachable accessories, like a Tumbler Basket and Rotisserie, while the Ninja uses swappable glass containers you can cook and store food in. Unfortunately, neither option compares with most traditional air fryers, producing disappointing-quality fried food in both cases. Still, the Ninja preheats and cooks quickly, so you don't have to wait long for meals to finish cooking. It's also very compact, so it won't take up much space on your counter or in your cupboard.

    Cuisinart AIR-200

The Cuisinart AIR-200 is a better air fryer than the Fritaire. The Cuisinart makes better-quality fried food, leaving more of each batch crispy and golden-brown. While it has a higher minimum temperature and a lower maximum fan speed, the Cuisinart is still more versatile overall. It can get a little hotter than the Fritaire, has lower fan speeds for delicate tasks like baking, and offers more preset cooking modes. The Cuisinart works a lot faster, too, saving you more time than the Fritaire.

    Ninja Speedi SF301

The Ninja Speedi SF301 is a better air fryer than the Fritaire. The Ninja makes much better-quality fried food, leaving just a few pieces either over- or undercooked, while the Fritaire leaves less than half of each batch well-cooked. The Ninja is more versatile, too, with a wider range of temperature settings, preset cooking modes, and fan speeds. This makes it a better option for alternate cooking methods, like dehydrating or broiling. The Ninja also preheats, reheats after you add food, and cooks faster, saving you a lot more time overall.

    Dash Compact

The Fritaire and Dash Compact offer similar performance overall, with some notable differences. Neither option makes very good-quality fried food, and while the Dash comes out ahead here, both options leave more than half of each batch either mushy or burnt. They're not very versatile either. Both air fryers have a fixed fan speed, which limits what else you can use them for. The Fritaire is passable for large-batch cooking, so between the two, it's the better option if you need to cook for a crowd. The Dash, on the other hand, is very compact, so if you have severely limited space, it might be worth considering.

This air fryer's 6-quart capacity is enough to serve about four people at a time. However, its basket has less surface area than many air fryers with similar capacities, like the Cuisinart AIR-200 and Beautiful 6qt Digital. This gives you less room to spread your food out in a single layer, which contributes to the unit's disappointing frying quality.

This air fryer is reasonably versatile. You can't change the fairly high fan speed, but it does have a pretty wide range of temperature settings. So, you can use it for things like dehydrating and baking, though there's a risk your items may either blow around as they dry or lose too much moisture as they bake. It has one preset cooking mode:

    • Dehydrate: 90°F, 4 hours (adjustable between 2 and 24 hours)

There are also several presets for different types of food:

    • Meat: 380°F, 20 minutes
    • Fries: 400°F, 25 minutes
    • Chicken: 400°F, 18 minutes
    • Cake: 400°F, 3 minutes
    • Fish: 400°F, 15 minutes

It also features a self-cleaning cycle, though we had some difficulty with this function. After filling the bowl with two inches of water (the recommended maximum according to the user manual) and initiating the cleaning process, water started leaking from the side, where the rotisserie attachment ports are located.

It's also worth noting that the self-cleaning function only cleans the lower section of the bowl, where the water reaches. Even if it cleans this part effectively, it's still necessary to hand-wash any food that sticks to the top half of the bowl.

We also noticed some build quality issues throughout our testing. After minimal use, the fryer's air vents (located at the back of the unit) have begun to melt and warp.

This air fryer makes disappointing fried food. While Fritaire recommends using the Tumbler Basket to cook fries, we used the 'Air Stand' in our results to stay consistent with our standardized test bench. With this method, less than half of each batch turns out well-cooked, while an equal portion is burnt, and a small part remains mushy.

Following Fritaire's directions, we also ran the test using the Tumbler Basket, with the following results:

    Crispy Fries: 55%
    Overcooked Fries: 0%
    Undercooked Fries: 45%

    Score: 6.5

As you can see, that's actually a pretty big improvement, but almost half the batch still remains undercooked. Ultimately, the resulting French fries are still just fair quality.

Its cooking speed when using the Air Stand is mediocre, so it'll take a while for most items to finish cooking. The cooking process is a little quicker when using the Tumbler Basket; it took 22 minutes for our 250g batch of fries to finish cooking.

Considering this air fryer has a reasonable cooking capacity and a pretty high maximum fan speed, its slow cooking speed may be due to its lower maximum power draw.

If you're looking for an option that cooks faster, you might be interested in the Ninja Crispi FN101GY, which also has a glass cooking chamber.

This air fryer has poor temperature stability. It takes a very long time to heat back up after you add food to the bowl, likely because adding food requires lifting the entire Top Burner Lid off the bowl, allowing a lot of heat to escape. This makes it difficult to follow recipes closely, since each batch will need more time to reach the desired level of doneness. Once it reaches the chosen setting, however, the temperature doesn't fluctuate much.
