The T-fal Easy Fry XL is a 4.4-quart air fryer with a single basket available throughout the Canadian market. We tested this model in collaboration with a local francophone media outlet, Radio-Canada. You can see their French-language recommendation article and video investigation on air fryers. This model is a simple option with a cylindrical design and a digital display on top. It has a limited temperature range, only one fan speed, and no shake or preheat reminders.

Our Verdict

6.6
Air Frying

The T-fal Easy Fry XL is an alright air fryer. Cooking results in French fries, vegetables, and wings that are mostly crispy and browned, with a small portion being either undercooked or burnt. It preheats and cooks slowly compared to other air fryers. With a limited temperature range and only one fan speed, it's not the most versatile option, either.

Pros
  • Makes good-quality fried food.

  • Adequate cooking surface area.

Cons
  • Takes a long time to preheat.

  • Cooks fairly slowly.

6.8
Large Batch Cooking

The T-fal Easy Fry XL air fryer is okay for large-batch cooking. With a 4.4-quart capacity, there's enough room to cook for about two people, so it's not ideal for cooking for a crowd. It also works slowly but ultimately makes good-quality fried food. This air fryer lacks versatility compared to other models; it has only one fan speed and a relatively small temperature range, so it's not the best choice for dehydrating or baking.

Pros
  • Makes good-quality fried food.

  • Adequate cooking surface area.

Cons
  • Smaller 4.4-quart capacity.

  • Only one fan speed.

6.8
Frying Performance

The T-fal Easy Fry XL delivers okay frying performance. It makes good-quality fried food, leaving most of each batch crispy and golden brown. Its basket has a reasonable amount of surface area, so you can arrange food in a single layer for the best results. That said, it preheats slowly, takes a long time to heat back up after you add food to the basket, and cooks slowly, too.

Pros
  • Makes good-quality fried food.

  • Adequate cooking surface area.

Cons
  • Takes a long time to preheat.

  • Cooks fairly slowly.

6.2
Cooking Speed

The T-fal Easy Fry XL has a mediocre cooking speed. This air fryer takes a long time to preheat and cooks food slowly.

    Popular Air Fryer Comparisons

The T-fal Easy Fry XL is a somewhat small 4.4-quart option with a compact design that takes up less counter space than larger models like the BELLA 8qt Pro 90088. It makes better-quality fried food than some similarly-sized air fryers, like the thinkkitchen Luminate, cooking more of your food to a crispy golden brown. That said, slightly larger-capacity options like the 5.1-quart Ninja Pro AF141 offer a bigger step up in performance without taking up much more counter space. Overall, it's a simple, single-basket air fryer with a narrow temperature range and fixed fan speed, so it offers less versatility than options like the Ninja Foodi DZ201 and Beautiful 9QT TriZone.

If you want more options, check out our picks for the best air fryers, the best budget and cheap air fryers, and the best large-capacity air fryers.

    Ninja Foodi DZ550

The Ninja Foodi DZ550 is a better air fryer than the T-fal Easy Fry XL. It makes great-quality fried food quickly, with a 10-quart capacity and a large surface area for cooking. It has two baskets for cooking different foods at the same time, and its wide range of fan speeds and temperature settings make it very versatile. It also regains its heat much more quickly after you remove the basket to add food and maintains quite a stable temperature throughout cooking. That said, it's a larger model, so you may prefer the T-fal if you're short on space.

    Ninja Foodi DZ401

The Ninja Foodi DZ401 performs better than the T-fal Easy Fry XL in every area, with one very important exception: the T-fal produces better-quality fried food. The Ninja tends to either undercook or burn a large portion of each batch, while the T-fal leaves a larger percentage crispy and golden brown. That said, the Ninja is much more versatile; it has two baskets, so you can cook food separately, and it has a wider range for both temperature and fan speeds. The Ninja also preheats and cooks faster, with less temperature fluctuation and a faster heat recovery after adding food.

    Beautiful 6qt Digital

The Beautiful 6qt Digital performs better than the T-fal Easy Fry XL. While both produce good-quality fried food, the Beautiful cooks faster and recovers its temperature faster after adding food to the basket. It's also more versatile, with a wider temperature range and different fan speeds. The T-fal takes up less space on your countertop but also has a smaller capacity and less surface area to arrange food in a single layer.

    Dash Compact

The T-fal Easy Fry XL is a better air fryer than the Dash Compact. Most importantly, it makes good-quality fried food, while the Dash does not. The Dash can preheat and regain its temperature faster after you remove the basket to add food, but it cooks more slowly overall. Neither model is particularly versatile; both air fryers have narrow temperature ranges and only one fan speed. They're both fairly small, but the Dash, true to its name, the Dash is especially compact.

    Black+Decker ID1901-1BDC

The T-fal Easy Fry XL is a better air fryer than the Black+Decker ID1901-1BDC. It makes good-quality fried food, while the Black+Decker struggles to make even a small portion of each batch crispy. Even though the T-fal preheats more slowly and takes an extremely long time to heat back up after you open the drawer to add food, the Black+Decker still takes longer to cook. The T-fal also maintains a more stable temperature while cooking, which makes it easier to follow recipes.
