The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus is an upright vacuum meant for cleaning up pet hair. If your pet sheds a lot, this vacuum can easily tackle hair on low and high-pile carpet. It's able to pick up most small and large debris on these surfaces too, and it comes with a crevice tool with an LED light to help you clean dark and difficult-to-reach places more efficiently. However, it struggles a bit more to clean hair as well as debris on bare floors, and it doesn't have a long range either, which can make it a little bit more difficult to clean stairs. It's also somewhat difficult to maintain and there are frequent recurring costs, depending on how often you use your vacuum. That being said, it's still very good for tackling pet hair, and you can even use a unique Febreze-scented pre-motor vacuum filter in it, which is advertised to help eliminate odors as you clean, although we don't currently test for this.

It's worth noting that there are multiple variants of this vacuum, which offer slightly different design features, like differing colorways or an automatic power cord retraction system, though these differences won't result in significant differences in debris pickup performance. Further details on the differences between models are outlined in the Differences Between Variants section of the review.

Our Verdict

6.9 Bare Floor

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus is just acceptable for bare floors. While it has good maneuverability, it struggles a bit to pick up pet hair. It also has a hard time picking up large debris like cereal, which can get caught in its front cover or at the start of the vacuum head's debris tunnel. It's able to pick up all small debris like rice, though. That being said, this vacuum can be difficult to maintain and there are frequent recurring costs for replacing its filters.

Pros
  • Can easily capture pet hair on carpet.
  • Easily cleans up small debris.
  • Good maneuverability on all surface types.
Cons
  • Struggles to pick up large debris and pet hair.
  • Frequent recurring costs.
  • Acceptable build quality that's difficult to maintain.
7.4 Low-Pile Carpet

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus is decent for low-pile carpet. It's able to pick up most pet hair as well as small and large debris easily. While it has an acceptable build quality, it can be difficult to maintain this vacuum to ensure it runs smoothly, and the recurring costs can add up, depending on how often you use it. However, it can maneuver quite well in most spaces.

Pros
  • Can easily capture pet hair on carpet.
  • Picks up most small and large debris.
  • Good maneuverability on all surface types.
Cons
  • Frequent recurring costs.
  • Acceptable build quality that's difficult to maintain.
7.1 High-Pile Carpet

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus is decent for high-pile carpet. It can easily pick up most pet hair as well as small and large debris from this surface. However, while its hard plastic body has an otherwise acceptable build quality, it's difficult to maintain this vacuum. Some parts such as the brushroll are difficult to remove, and it has frequent recurring costs. However, it has good maneuverability around electrical cords, and you can even configure the vacuum to reach under tables or couches.

Pros
  • Can easily capture pet hair on carpet.
  • Picks up most small and large debris.
  • Good maneuverability on all surface types.
Cons
  • Frequent recurring costs.
  • Acceptable build quality that's difficult to maintain.
7.0 Pets

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus is a satisfactory option for cleaning pet hair. It can easily pick up pet hair on carpet, although it struggles a bit more on bare floors. It requires ongoing maintenance and the recurring costs can also add up, depending on your usage. It has good maneuverability, though.

Pros
  • Can easily capture pet hair on carpet.
  • Good maneuverability on all surface types.
Cons
  • Acceptable build quality that's difficult to maintain.
5.6 Stairs

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus isn't well-suited for cleaning stairs. While it can configure into a hybrid upright/handheld vacuum, it's still a bit of a pain for cleaning stairs. Its hose has a short reach and if you tug or pull on it, you could tip over the vacuum body. If you don't mind taking your time, the crevice brush is a handy tool for cleaning each step.

Pros
  • Can easily capture pet hair on carpet.
Cons
  • Sub-par range.
  • Acceptable build quality that's difficult to maintain.
6.1 Cars

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus isn't designed for cleaning your car.

Compared To Other Vacuums

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo is an upright vacuum designed for tackling pet hair. Unlike other upright vacuums such as the Hoover WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind, the BISSELL does a great job picking up hair on low and high-pile carpet, but it struggles more on bare floors. It also doesn't come with a pet grooming brush like the Dyson Ball Animal 2, which is a little disappointing. On the upside, this vacuum comes with one unique Febreze-scented pre-motor filter to help keep down odors around your house. Although we don't currently test for it, you can also purchase this filter with or without the Febreze scent separately whenever you need to replace your foam filter.

BISSELL PowerForce Helix

The BISSELL PowerForce Helix is a better overall upright vacuum than the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo. The PowerForce has a larger dirt compartment, it's lighter, and it has better overall performance on bare floors as well as low-pile carpet. It's also easier to maintain and there are fewer recurring costs. However, the Pet Hair Eraser is better built, it comes with an upholstery tool as well as a turbo brush, and it's more maneuverable on carpets thanks to its brushroll off switch.

BISSELL CleanView/CleanView Swivel Pet Rewind

The BISSELL CleanView is a much better upright vacuum for cleaning pet hair than the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo. The CleanView Swivel is easier to maintain, and it can pick up pet hair on all surface types. It also has a significantly better performance on bare floors and a slightly better performance on low-pile carpet. However, the Pet Hair Eraser Turbo uses a HEPA filter, it has a much better performance on high-pile carpet, it's significantly easier to maneuver, and it feels better built.

Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe [NV360, UV440]

The Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe is better for more use cases than the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo. The Shark has fewer parts that need to be cleaned regularly, comes with a larger dustbin, and performs better on bare floors. Meanwhile, the BISSELL is easier to maneuver, performs better on low-pile carpet, and is a better option for pet owners since it has a removable brushroll.

Shark Navigator Lift-Away Speed

The Shark Navigator Lift-Away Speed is better than the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo. The Shark incurs virtually no recurring costs, has a larger dirt compartment, and delivers superior performance on all surface types. You can also lift the pod away from its body and use it in a more portable semi-handheld configuration. Conversely, the BISSELL is a little easier to maneuver as it doesn't get caught on rug tassels or electrical cords as often as the Shark.

Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away [NV751, NV752]

The Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away is a more well-rounded vacuum than the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo. The Shark is slightly easier to maintain with a lot fewer recurring costs, and its dirt compartment holds more too. It also has a better performance on all surface types too. However, the BISSELL can maneuver slightly better, and it has a removable brushroll.

BISSELL CrossWave Pet Pro

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo and BISSELL CrossWave Pet Pro are for different uses. The Pet Hair Eraser is a traditional upright with a larger dirt compartment, better maneuverability, and superior performance on carpeted surfaces. You can also use it in a semi-handheld configuration to clean hard-to-reach areas. Meanwhile, the CrossWave is a hybrid vacuum mop that can clean stains with ease and is capable of dealing with liquid spills.

Hoover WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo is a better upright vacuum for carpet than the Hoover WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind. The BISSELL feels slightly better built, and it comes with an upholstery tool as well as a soft bristle brush. You can also use it in a semi-handheld configuration, which is nice if you want to reach into crevices. While the Hoover is better on bare floors, the BISSELL can pick up more debris and pet hair, especially on high pile carpet. However, the Hoover has easier maintenance needs with less recurring costs.

Dyson Ball Animal 2 Total Clean/Origin

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is a better upright vacuum than the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo. The Dyson has a longer range, requires less maintenance, and has almost no recurring costs. It has a better performance on all surface types and comes with a pet grooming tool, which is nice for pet owners.

Shark APEX Upright

The Shark APEX Upright is a better upright vacuum for cleaning bare floors than the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo. If you have mostly hardwood, tile, or laminate in your home, the Shark can easily clean all pet hair and debris, whether large or small, from these floors. It also has a slightly higher range, a larger dirt compartment, and its recurring costs are less overall. You can even turn it into a handheld vacuum, which is good if you want to clean your car. That being said, if your home has mostly carpet in it, the BISSELL does a better job on low and high-pile carpet. It's also slightly lighter.

Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo and Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged have different advantages. The BISSELL has a bagless design and performs better on both low and high-pile surfaces, where it clears material like baking soda or sand more effectively. However, the Hoover performs better on bare floors and is far easier to maintain, though with similarly high recurring costs.

Vacuum Type
Upright

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo has an only acceptable build quality. It's made from mostly hard plastic, except for its metal wand, but it could feel more sturdy, especially compared to some other BISSELL vacuums like the BISSELL CrossWave Pet Pro. This vacuum has a single-hand stick grip, which some users may prefer, and there's suction control accessible on its handle. The head of the vacuum has a headlight while the crevice tool has a LED light near the brush so you can illuminate hard-to-reach, possibly dark areas.

Unfortunately, while the brushrolls are removable, ten screws need to be taken out to get them out. The dirt compartment and turbo brush both feel like they could crack if dropped, which is a little disappointing. However, while there are a lot of pieces to assemble, everything fits well together, although the dirt compartment can be a little tricky to put back in place.

User Maintenance

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo is disappointing to maintain. There are a lot of pieces you need to remove to access different parts of the vacuum.

  • Dirt compartment: The top cover twists off and it empties from the bottom. You can also remove the cyclone cylinder and wash it with warm water, but remember to let it dry for 24 hours before using it again.
  • Brushroll: The brushroll can be removed but you need a Philips screwdriver to remove the 10 screws that hold in the base cover. After that, you can remove the brushroll belt that holds it in place, and you can pull or cut out debris or hair tangled around the brush.
  • Brushroll belt: Just like the brushroll, you need to take out all the screws first to access this part. The belt may need to be removed if there's any clogged debris or tangled hair on the brushroll. It just needs to be inspected to see if it's damaged or needs replacing.
  • Pre-motor filters: These filters are found under the top cover of the of the dirt compartment. They can be washed with a light detergent when needed, but they need to dry for 24 hours before reuse.
  • Post-motor (HEPA) filter: This filter can't be washed. You have access to it once you remove the dirt compartment, and you just need to twist it to take it out. If dust/debris accumulates on it, gently tap the filter against a trash container to remove it.

Take a look at the Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged if you're looking for an upright vacuum that's easier to maintain.

Recurring Cost
Bag Part Number No bag
Filter Part Number 1603437
HEPA Filter Part Number No HEPA Filter

While this vacuum has only a couple of recurring costs, some parts need to be replaced quite frequently, depending on your usage.

  • Pre-motor filters: Both the foam and felt filters need to be replaced every three to six months. The foam filter also comes in a Febreze-brand variant, which is advertised to keep odors down in your home, although we don't currently test for this. Both filters are sold separately.
  • Post-motor (HEPA) filter: Not washable. This should be replaced every three to six months. Just like the foam pre-motor filter, you can also get this part as Febreze-scented.

If you want an upright vacuum with almost no recurring costs, then look into the Dyson Ball Animal 2.

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo is okay on bare floors. It's easily able to pick up small debris like rice but it has a bit more of a problem picking up larger debris like cereal as it gets caught in the vacuum's front cover as well as near the end of the tunnel. If you're looking for an upright vacuum that does a better job on bare floors, take a look at the BISSELL CleanView Swivel.

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo is great on low-pile carpet. It slightly struggles to pick up small debris like baking soda and there's even some residue left behind within the connector between the wand and hose. However, it's still able to pick up most small and large debris even as the dirt compartment fills. It can also pick up pet hair without a problem. If you want an upright vacuum that's even better on low-pile carpet, check out the Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away.

Maneuverability

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo has good maneuverability. Its rotating head is great for navigating around objects but it's still a bit tall, so it can have trouble getting into tight spaces like beneath your couch. That being said, it comes with an LED crevice tool, so you're able to get into tight spaces and clean them. You can also use the soft-bristle brush to clean furniture using the wand, which is nice. The vacuum also doesn't have a problem with tassels or electrical cords, but it can get stuck on low-pile carpet if using "Low Carpet" suction control.
