The PuroAir 240 is a basic, compact air purifier intended for use in small spaces. It's a fairly simple unit overall, with a multi-stage filtration system that includes a HEPA-grade primary filter with an additional layer of activated carbon pellets to reduce odors. While the PuroAir doesn't offer Wi-Fi connectivity or come with a remote control, it does have a particle detection system that estimates ambient particulate levels and allows it to automatically adjust its fan speed setting accordingly.
Our Verdict
The PuroAir 240 is a reasonable choice for pet owners. The unit operates quietly, even at higher fan speeds, which is great if your pet is easily startled by loud noises. While its multi-stage filtration system includes a layer of activated carbon pellets, which are advertised to trap odors, there simply isn't enough of the material to have a big impact. General particle filtration performance is only passable overall, though that isn't surprising for a unit of this size and power. It can handle pet dander and other allergens in bedrooms and offices, but it'll struggle in large, open spaces like living rooms or basements.
Compact, lightweight body can be placed on smaller nightstands or tables.
Impressively quiet overall operation.
Clean air delivery rate is insufficient for larger rooms, even at highest fan speed.
The PuroAir 240 is a good option for use in bedrooms. It's small enough to be placed on a nightstand or dresser, and operates quietly enough at lower fan speeds as not to be a distraction for even the most sensitive of sleepers. That said, its clean air delivery rate suffers at lower fan speeds, and if you have a larger bedroom, it might be necessary to run it at a higher fan speed for effective operation. While there's no remote control or smartphone app, the automatic power adjustment feature lets the unit adapt to changes in air quality without you having to get up in the middle of the night.

Automatic fan speed adjustment system.

No remote control or companion app.
The PuroAir 240's particle filtration rate is passable. This is a compact unit with a low-powered motor and an allergen-trapping HEPA-grade filter that doesn't allow for much in the way of airflow. Neither of these aspects is conducive to a high clean air delivery rate (CADR). That said, it delivers comparable performance to alternatives with similarly powered motors. At its highest fan speed setting, it can operate effectively in most bedrooms and offices. Turning down the fan speed to quiet the unit has a drastic impact on performance, however.
Clean air delivery rate is insufficient for larger rooms, even at highest fan speed.

Popular Air Purifier Comparisons
The PuroAir 240 is a basic, budget-friendly air purifier intended for small rooms. While the manufacturer advertises this unit to be capable of adequate coverage in rooms up to 1,000 ft², in testing, we found that number to be drastically overinflated. At its highest fan speed setting, this unit provides a clean air delivery rate (CADR) suitable for rooms of just over 140 ft² (13 m²) in size, which is far more in line with similarly priced and sized units like the Levoit Core 200S and the Shark NeverChange HP152. Against those alternatives, the PuroAir's standout aspects are its quieter operation and automatic power adjustment feature, something both the stripped-back Shark and Wi-Fi-enabled Levoit lack.

The Levoit Core 200S and the PuroAir 240 each have their own strengths as small room air purifiers. They perform similarly in terms of particle filtration rate, and both units are best suited for use in smaller bedrooms and offices. Differences largely come down to the quality-of-life features, with the PuroAir having an automatic fan speed adjustment feature and the Levoit having Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to operate the unit with your smartphone.
The PuroAir 240 is a slightly better small-room air purifier than the Shark NeverChange HP152. The Shark has a slightly higher clean air delivery rate at its highest fan speed and will be quicker to clear the air in a comparably sized space, though only by a little. The Shark's Neverchange filter system is a bit of a misnomer, since you do have to replace the primary filter every five or so years, but that still results in lower ownership costs than the PuroAir, which uses much shorter-lived filters. However, the PuroAir runs quieter, and while neither unit comes with a remote control or Wi-Fi connectivity, the PuroAir at least has an automatic power adjustment feature, allowing for set-it-and-forget operation.
