Sony ULT FIELD 1
JBL Flip 7
Choosing between the Sony ULT FIELD 1 and JBL Flip 7 partly depends on whether you plan to add a second speaker or not. Of the two, only the JBL can connect to a second compatible speaker for stereo, or a few for Party mode. The JBL also has a higher IP68 rating and is advertised to be drop-resistant up to a meter. It even recharges faster than the Sony, though the battery is a little shorter. The Sony has a slightly more excited sound with more boom and treble. The Sony boasts a slightly lesser IP67 rating, but we found it floats. It also has a microphone for voice assistance, which the JBL doesn't. That said, for video streaming, the Sony has much lower latency for a tighter A/V sync.

Hi there, Thank you for your questions, I did a quick check on our Flip 7 from inventory and it looks like the new FW update is for setting up ‘stereo group’, and not optimizing latency. Regarding comparing to Ult 7, we currently only measure EQ presets and not custom EQ for speakers, however I will bring this up to our test designer and hopefully we will address this in the future. And for latency testing, we have specialized software to measure the latency. But you can also check it by playing an ‘audio video sync test’ from Youtube on your device, and see if the click is late or not. Cheers
Have you been able to retest the JBL’s latency with updated firmware? I currently have the Sony and while it’s great, I would appreciate the ability to fine tune the sound signature a bit. That’s why the JBL interests me. Also, with the JBL’s low freq raised to max, how does it compare with Sony’s Ult mode?
Thanks for the article!
Edit: Is there a way for me to test latency easily using my MacBook or android phone?
