On paper, there are very few differences between the Samsung HW-Q990H and its predecessor, the Samsung HW-Q990F. There are no ostensible changes in the hardware, with the newer model introducing new software features, like Auto Volume, Sound Elevation (which raises dialogue to match your screen height) and a more reactive, AI-based room correction algorithm. Ultimately, both bars rank among the best we've tested in objective sound metrics, have top-tier customization options and support all popular audio formats. So if these software improvements don't speak to you, you'll be better off going for the discounted Q990F.

Based on performance scores alone, it looks like the Q990H performs nearly exactly the same as the Q990F - in some cases it’s even worse than the older model.

Is there any reason to upgrade?
