Sony A95L OLED
Sony BRAVIA 9
In most ways, the Sony A95L OLED is better than the Sony BRAVIA 9. The A95L has a much wider viewing angle, so it’s better if you regularly watch TV with a group. The A95L also delivers fast motion with less blur due to its faster response time. Regarding accuracy, the A95L has the BRAVIA 9 beat due to its better SDR pre-calibration accuracy and PQ EOTF tracking. However, the BRAVIA 9 is still excellent in that regard. As impressive as the contrast is on the BRAVIA 9, the A95L's is better, so it delivers deeper blacks in a dark room with no blooming whatsoever. On the other hand, the BRAVIA 9 is the brighter TV in both SDR and HDR, so highlights pop out more in HDR content, and it overcomes more glare in a bright room.

For us, the viewing angle was a deal breaker. For some health-related reasons, we have had to reorganise the den and as a result, my wife watches with a +20° angle and myself with a -30° one (with 0° = sitting exactly in front of the screen) So, based on your tests, the Bravia 9 was discarded and instead, we selected the A95L and the image is perfect for both of us. Thanks for considering and testing the view angle impact on image quality.
Thanks for the feedback! Viewing angle is a bit of a tough one because some people pretty much only use their TV when they’re alone or with one other person. On the other hand, there are a lot of people who need a TV that they can use to watch content with larger groups of friends or family, so viewing angle is very important to them. For some, the 85" BRAVIA 9 is the easy choice over the 77" A95L because of the size advantage. For others, the 77" A95L is the easy choice because they need something to watch movies or shows with a large group, or they just prefer OLEDs. It really all comes down to personal preference. With that said, we’re always looking for ways to improve our scoring, so we’ll definitely keep your feedback in mind for future test benches.
I feel like you put WAY too much emphasis on viewing angles. Also I think the value is much greater for the Bravia 9 than the A95L. The 85” Bravia 9 is the same price as the 77” A95L.
Amazing! I just got the A95L 77" right before your review for Bravia 9. Happy to know that the A95L still on top of the food chain!
