Samsung S95F OLED
LG G5 OLED
The Samsung S95F and the LG G5 are both fantastic OLED TVs that deliver exceptional picture quality. The LG is slightly more enticing for use in a dark home theater, since it gets a bit brighter in HDR, has better processing, and supports Dolby Vision. However, the Samsung still looks incredible in dark rooms. In bright rooms, blacks are raised on the Samsung, but its anti-reflective coating is so effective that it essentially eliminates glare, making it the better choice for very bright environments. As good as the LG is, it has diagonal lines in darker scenes that are noticeable when sitting up close. It also exhibits snow-like noise in certain dark scenes that’s noticeable from a normal viewing distance, along with a few other issues that may bother some people, making it hard to recommend over the Samsung.

We have contrast measurements to show the impact of the panel structure when viewed in ambient light, but not for clarity. This is difficult to measure objectively. Go see it in a show room if you possibly can.
Is there a reliable information on how much the coating on S95F actually reduces clarity and fine details/contrast? That is the only reason pushing me towards the G5.
The diagonal lines are just as noticeable on the C5 as they are on the G5.
I am planning on buying a s95f 55 inch as a pc monitor, but I don’t like the matte finish, have you seen the s95d or s95f matte finish peeled and if so does it look better. I know it voids the warranty but I’ll mostly be watching in a dark room with curtains.

It’s not a structural issue, and the diagonal lines are still technically there with the latest firmware, but you have to be sitting really close to the TV and really looking for it to see it. Of course, some people are more sensitive to this sort of issue than others.

Has the firmware actually removed these artifacts, or has it only improved things like near-black chrominance overshoot in very dark scenes? That’s incredibly close for that size of display, I wouldn’t recommend it. With any TV you’re going to notice more issues at that viewing distance. As for the G5 in particular, these issues are largely fixed with the latest firmware as long as you have it in the most accurate mode, so unless you’re really looking for issues I doubt you’ll spot them.
