If you're looking for the best printer for iPad, iPhone, or Mac, finding a printer that can work seamlessly is an invaluable tool. Thanks to Apple AirPrint, you can easily print documents and photos directly from your device, which is great when you don't want to set up another wireless connection. Since there's nothing to download, it's also great when you have multiple people, like friends, roommates, or co-workers, all sharing the same printer.
Below are our recommendations for the best AirPrint printers you can buy. Also, check out our recommendations for the best home printers, the best office printers, and the best photo printers.

Best AirPrint Printer
Build QualityEstimated Black Page YieldprintsEstimated Color Page YieldprintsDocument QualityScanningBlack-Only Printing CostUS$/printSee all our test resultsColor Printing CostUS$/printThe Canon Color imageCLASS MF665Cdw is the best AirPrint-compatible printer we've tested. It prints sharp, detailed documents fast, topping out at 26 pages per minute. Setup is painless, too. It connects over Wi-Fi, USB, or Ethernet, and it supports Apple AirPrint, so you can print straight from your Mac, iPhone, or iPad without hunting down extra drivers or third-party apps. Scanning holds up just as well. The automatic document feeder handles duplex scanning, making it easy to power through double-sided and multi-page documents, while the flatbed captures clean, detailed scans. Ongoing costs are another strong point. The toner cartridges last a long time, and the built-in drum means there's one less thing to worry about with maintenance. If you print heavily, XL cartridges can stretch your yield even further.
Like most laser printers, it falls short with photos. It produces flat, grainy images that lack fine detail, so if photo quality is a priority, you'll want an inkjet. We recommend looking at the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 and the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8500. The ET-5850 is the better office fit, with faster speeds and an automatic document feeder with duplex scanning. The ET-8500 is built around photo printing and delivers noticeably better image quality. Both are supertank models capable of thousands of prints, which keeps long-term ink costs even lower than the Canon. Of course, since these are inkjet printers, you should print regularly to avoid clogging.

Best Mid-Range AirPrint Printer
Build QualityEstimated Black Page YieldprintsEstimated Color Page YieldprintsDocument QualityScanningBlack-Only Printing CostUS$/printSee all our test resultsColor Printing CostUS$/printThe Epson EcoTank ET-2980 is a fantastic option if you want to keep your cost-per-print as low as possible and don't need an automatic document feeder. Like the other printers on this list, it supports Apple AirPrint, so you can start printing from your Mac or iPhone without installing extra software, and setup is quick and painless. It also connects via USB and Wi-Fi and supports Mopria Print Service, making it easy to use with other devices as well. It prints sharp black-and-white text and vibrant color documents, and its supertank ink system keeps long-term costs impressively low. The affordable ink bottles last for thousands of pages, so you won't need to replace cartridges often.
Photos are detailed and vibrant, making them perfectly suitable for casual at-home printing, even if color accuracy isn't perfect. The scanner is the biggest drawback. It tends to overprocess images, stripping away watermarks and fine details like thin graph lines. Switching to the slower photo setting fixes most of those issues. Just keep in mind that scanning longer documents takes much longer since you'll need to place each page on the flatbed manually. If you'd prefer a similar printer with a more capable scanner, check out the Epson EcoTank ET-3950.
One more thing to keep in mind is clogging. Since it's an inkjet, you'll want to use it regularly to prevent printhead clogging. If you're only printing black-and-white documents, the Brother MFC-L2820DW laser printer is worth considering instead. It produces outstanding documents at blazing speed and won't run into any clogging issues.

Best Budget AirPrint Printer
Build QualityEstimated Black Page YieldprintsEstimated Color Page YieldN/ADocument QualityScanningBlack-Only Printing CostUS$/printSee all our test resultsColor Printing CostN/AFor those on a budget who only need a printer for occasional use, we recommend the Brother HL-L2460DW. This monochrome laser printer may be a bit more expensive up front than many of its inkjet alternatives, but there's no risk of clogging if it sits unused for long periods. This can save you money in the long run, as you won't have to prematurely replace ink cartridges. As for build quality, it's well-built and has a detachable power cable, making it easy to replace in case of damage.
It prints up to 34 pages per minute and yields slightly under 1,300 prints from a single toner cartridge. If you print a lot and don't want to worry about changing the toner often, this printer is compatible with Brother's TN830XL high-yield cartridges, which yield around 3,000 pages. Like other Brother laser printers, you'll have to replace the drum separately, but again, it's not something you'll have to do often. Finally, while its print quality is lower than you would expect from a Brother printer out of the box, you can get it to produce sharp-looking documents with a few tweaks to its settings. Best Cheap AirPrint Printer
Build QualityEstimated Black Page YieldprintsEstimated Color Page YieldprintsDocument QualityScanningBlack-Only Printing CostUS$/printSee all our test resultsColor Printing CostUS$/printIf you want to spend the least you can, get the Canon PIXMA MG3620, an all-in-one inkjet printer. It doesn't feel sturdy, but it produces good-quality documents and detailed photos. You still get Wi-Fi connectivity, USB connectivity, and Apple AirPrint support. The scanner produces surprisingly high-quality scans; however, as this is a budget-friendly model, there's no automatic feeder or fax functionality. It prints nine black or three-color pages per minute and supports automatic duplex printing.
One downside to inkjet printers is that they are prone to clogging if unused for long periods. So, if you're only printing the occasional return label, you're better off spending a bit more and getting our budget pick above, the Brother HL-L2460DW. Another downside is its high recurring costs, as its cartridges run out quickly. Also, take note that if you print a lot of photos, it uses a tri-color cartridge; you'll have to replace the entire cartridge when one of the colors is empty, wasting the remaining ink and your money.

Best Portable AirPrint Printer
Build QualityEstimated Black Page YieldprintsEstimated Color Page YieldprintsDocument QualityScanningBlack-Only Printing CostUS$/printSee all our test resultsColor Printing CostUS$/printWe recommend the HP OfficeJet 250, an all-in-one inkjet printer with a built-in rechargeable battery, for on-the-go use. It's easy to carry around thanks to its compact size, so it's a great option for people who regularly travel for work or need to print receipts at an outdoor event with no power outlet nearby. You can connect to the printer via Wi-Fi or USB, and of course, you get Apple AirPrint support. Its sheetfed scanner produces high-quality scans and supports optical character recognition (OCR), a feature that lets you save scans as PDFs for quick keyword searches.
This inkjet model produces very nice black and color documents; it's just slow, with speeds of three black or six color pages per minute. Another downside is that the ink cartridges run out quickly. The cartridges are relatively cheap; however, color printing can still get expensive if you print a lot. The battery is good for about 225 prints and takes around two hours to charge fully.

Brother MFC-L3780CDW/MFC-L3720CDW:
The Brother MFC-L3780CDW/MFC-L3720CDW is a good alternative to the Canon Color imageCLASS MF665Cdw with similar performance. However, it's slightly more expensive and will cost more to maintain, except if you use the high-yield cartridge.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e:
If you need faster printing speeds regardless of the connection type, get the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e as an alternative to the Epson EcoTank ET-2980. Although it doesn't yield as many prints, it includes an automatic document feeder.

Brother MFC-J1205W/MFC-J1215W:
If you print in color frequently but are on a budget, check out the Brother MFC-J1205W/MFC-J1215W as an alternative to the Brother HL-L2460DW. It's a simple inkjet all-in-one that prints sharp documents, and while it doesn't have the best color range or accuracy, printed photos still look decent. It's much slower as it only prints nine black or six color pages per minute.

HP OfficeJet 200:
If you don't need to scan anything on the go and want to save some money, get the HP OfficeJet 200. It produces documents that look just as good as the HP OfficeJet 250, and its battery actually lasts longer. However, it's less versatile as it lacks an ADF.
