LG G5 OLED
LG G6 OLED
The LG G6 OLED and the LG G5 OLED are very similar overall. The G6 is brighter in SDR and has superior reflection handling, making it the better option for bright rooms. The G6 also has superior gradient handling, and it does a slightly better job reducing artifacts in low-quality streams. Both TVs are incredibly similar, so most people are best off getting the G5 if they can find it for cheaper than the G6.

I hope that’s sarcasm lol. The remote could definitely be better though… I don’t like having a school as the “OK/Select” button either. They could definitely do better such a Premium TV!
I’m just glad they didn’t add input buttons or a mute button directly on the remote.
100%! It seems like we need updated reviews all the time now, to really compare those TVs fairly against each other… which is terrible since RTINGS and other Media out there need to constantly redo their tests weeks, months and even years after release!
You would think that LG and other manufacturers would release some polished Firmware on release but that’s not the case… On the other hand I agree with your statement, TVs are also a lot more complex than they used to be, therefore they need tons of updates to be fully optimized! The biggest issues on the G5 got fixed a few months ago, and the G6 might be have the same issues (unfortunately)…
After the update, it would be useful to review the TV again using the same settings. We’d especially like to see whether its performance in fast-moving scenes has improved. The RTINGS team will likely include post-update results in their analysis as well.
That said, it’s important to keep in mind that repeatedly testing the exact same scene may not always produce identical results. The TV’s real-time processing behavior can vary. For example, scrolling text that previously showed stutter or artifacts might still appear flawed in the same scene, yet look much cleaner in different scenes with varied colors and content.
The G6 got a new Firmware upgrade yesterday (43.10.68), I’ll be waiting for the review update!
As someone who closely followed the early days of the LG G5, I can confidently say that the TV has significantly matured over time with multiple updates, and I believe it will continue to improve further on the software side.
From this perspective, the LG G6—introduced in 2026 with its new 12-bit processing architecture—is also likely to see notable performance gains through future updates. In fact, these improvements could reach a point where the current balance needs to be re-evaluated altogether.
It’s really disappointing that the G6 is not a phenomenally better more put together TV being the fact that this is the second year with the new technology. I still have my G5 although I’ve had my G6 now for a little over a week. The second I turned it on I saw the brightness difference. The G5 definitely looks brighter. And now I can see why because HDR content is actually dimmer. And of course, LG claims this is the brightest OLED they have ever made. I guess because it’s brighter in SDR they can still get away with that.? it’s so lame. I really hope they fix this. Other reviewers are reporting the C6H appears brighter and stays brighter longer than the G6. This is totally ridiculous.
