The Silk & Snow Mattress is a cheap all-foam bed-in-a-box with a Medium-Plush feel. It has a simple design with polyfoam support and transition layers and a gel-infused memory foam comfort layer. The foam layers are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning that they're made without harmful chemicals and heavy metals.

Our Verdict

8.1
Side Sleeping
  • 7.2
    Light Weight
  • 8.4
    Average Weight
  • 8.7
    Heavy Weight

The Silk and Snow Mattress is a great choice for a wide range of side sleepers. It offers fantastic body conformity for average-weight and heavier people, so if you fall into either category, it'll relieve enough pressure on your arm, shoulder, and hip to keep you comfortable. Lighter-weight sleepers don't compress the mattress quite as much, but it still offers good body conformity and enough pressure relief for side sleepers in this category. You sink pretty deeply into this mattress; however, it doesn't contour you closely, and some side sleepers may prefer a mattress with a more enveloping feel.

Pros
  • Good body conformity for lighter-weight sleepers.

  • Fantastic body conformity for average to heavier-weight sleepers.

Cons
  • Doesn't provide much contouring.

7.3
Back Sleeping
  • 7.7
    Light Weight
  • 7.4
    Average Weight
  • 6.9
    Heavy Weight

The Silk and Snow Mattress is best suited to lighter back sleepers. It provides good support for people in that weight category, so if you're a lighter-weight back sleeper, it'll keep your hips lifted so your spine stays in a straight line, while providing enough pressure relief to cushion your joints. It also provides decent support for average-weight sleepers. If you fall into that category and sleep on your back, you'll likely notice that you sink further into the mattress, but not enough to cause serious discomfort or misalignment. Heavier-weight sleepers, however, won't get enough support for back sleeping. If that describes you, you'll benefit from a more supportive option.

Pros
  • Good support for lighter-weight sleepers.

  • Decent support for average-weight sleepers.

Cons
  • Mediocre support for heavier-weight sleepers.

7.1
Stomach Sleeping
  • 7.5
    Light Weight
  • 7.2
    Average Weight
  • 6.5
    Heavy Weight

The Silk and Snow Mattress is best suited to lighter stomach sleepers. If you fall into that category, this mattress will provide enough support to keep your hips lifted, so you can sleep on your stomach without your back arching, and with enough pressure relief to cushion your joints. It provides decent support for average-weight stomach sleepers as well, though you may notice your hips sinking farther into the mattress. Heavier-weight stomach sleepers will likely want something more supportive.

Pros
  • Good support for lighter-weight sleepers.

  • Decent support for average-weight sleepers.

Cons
  • Mediocre support for heavier-weight sleepers.

6.7
Longevity

The Silk and Snow Mattress is reasonably durable. It contains three layers of relatively dense, good-quality foam, which will help the mattress resist sagging for longer than those with lower-quality foam layers.

Pros
  • Uses good-quality foam which will resist forming indents.

Cons
None
8.2
Pressure Relief

The Silk and Snow Mattress offers impressive pressure relief overall. It provides good pressure relief for lighter-weight sleepers and relieves even more pressure for average-weight and heavier-weight sleepers. When you sleep on your side, you compress the mattress enough to avoid concentrating too much weight on your shoulder or hip. That said, while you sink deeply into this mattress, it doesn't offer much contouring, and some users may prefer a mattress with a more hugging feel.

Pros
  • Good body conformity for lighter-weight sleepers.

  • Fantastic body conformity for average to heavier-weight sleepers.

Cons
  • Doesn't provide much contouring.

7.0
Support

The Silk and Snow Mattress offers the most support for lighter-weight sleepers. If you fall into this category, it provides enough support to keep the heavier parts of your body lifted, so your spine stays aligned. It still offers decent support for average-weight individuals, but you may notice your hips sink farther into the mattress than the rest of your body. It's least supportive for heavier-weight sleepers who compress the mattress most. If you fall into this category, your hips will sink even farther, which can cause discomfort, especially when sleeping on your back or stomach.

Pros
  • Good support for lighter-weight sleepers.

  • Decent support for average-weight sleepers.

Cons
  • Mediocre support for heavier-weight sleepers.

8.1
Cooling

The Silk and Snow Mattress provides great cooling performance. It transfers heat effectively as you fall asleep and throughout the rest of the night, even if you tend to overheat.

Pros
  • Cooling enough for hot sleepers.

Cons
None
9.4
Motion Dissipation

The Silk and Snow Mattress delivers outstanding motion dissipation. You don't feel smaller movements, and even larger movements stay near the source and dissipate quickly. It's a fantastic choice if you sleep lightly or with a partner.

Pros
  • Superb motion dissipation means movement isn't likely to wake you.

Cons
None
7.7
Responsiveness

The Silk and Snow Mattress is very responsive. When you compress the mattress, it recovers its shape very quickly, supporting your movements, so it's easy to move around or shift sleeping positions. It's not a bouncy option, though, which can make it feel more sluggish.

Pros
  • Fantastic responsiveness makes it easy to move around.

Cons
  • Not bouncy, which can make it feel more sluggish.

    Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Silk and Snow Mattress (or S&S Mattress) is available in three different firmness levels: Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm. It comes in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King sizes. We tested the Queen-sized Plush model, and our results are only valid for that variant. See the label for our unit.

If you have experience with this mattress or any other variants, we invite you to share your experience in the comments.

    Popular Mattress Comparisons

The Silk & Snow Mattress is a cheap Medium-Plush foam bed-in-a-box. Compared to other foam models, it offers great body conformity, making it ideal for side sleepers. For example, the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a similar overall firmness level, is less conforming for side sleepers across all weight categories. The biggest advantage of this mattress is its outstanding motion isolation. Like with the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt, you only feel the largest movements, like when your sleeping partner rolls over, and still, the movement doesn't travel across the mattress or last long at all, so it's unlikely to wake you. It offers impressive cooling, too. Most foam mattresses don't transfer heat efficiently enough for hot sleepers, but this one outperforms even those designed with cooling in mind, like the Casper Cooling Select. Overall, it offers solid performance for side sleepers, especially for the price.

If you're looking for more options, see our recommendations for the best mattresses, the best memory foam mattresses, and the best mattresses for side sleepers.

    Nectar Premier Copper

    Track

The Silk & Snow Mattress and the Nectar Premier Copper are both Medium-Plush foam mattresses, but the Silk & Snow is a better choice for most people. Although the Nectar is still a very good choice for average-weight to heavier side sleepers, the Silk & Snow provides better pressure relief and support overall, making it more comfortable regardless of your body type or sleeping position. The Silk & Snow is also more cooling, and it provides better motion dissipation, so movement is less likely to wake you. The Nectar is more contouring, however, so you may still prefer it if you like a mattress with a hugging feel.

    Novaform Legacy

    Track

The Silk & Snow Mattress and Novaform Legacy are both affordable models, but beyond that, they're pretty different, and you may prefer either depending on your sleeping position and preferences. The Silk & Snow is a Medium-Plush all-foam option best suited to side sleepers, while the Novaform is a Firm hybrid that's better for most back and stomach sleepers. If you sleep with a partner, the Silk & Snow is a better pick thanks to its fantastic motion dissipation. On the other hand, if ease of movement is a priority for you, you may prefer the Novaform, since it's bouncier and more responsive. Both mattresses are cooling enough for hot sleepers, but neither provides great edge support.

    Novosbed

    Track

The Silk & Snow Mattress is a better option than the Novosbed for most people. The Novosbed is very firm, so it's a decent choice for back and stomach sleepers, but it lacks pressure relief, resulting in poor performance for side sleepers. The Silk & Snow, on the other hand, offers impressive performance for stomach sleepers, making it more versatile for partnered and combination sleepers. The Silk & Snow is more responsive, so it's easier to move around on, and it offers better motion isolation, so you also feel less motion across the mattress. It's cool enough for hot sleepers, too, and it's a little more durable.

    Casper Cooling Select

    Track

The Silk & Snow Mattress and the Casper Cooling Select are both cheap all-foam models, and while they both offer good performance, especially for the price, they have a few differences that may sway you in either direction. The Silk & Snow offers better pressure relief, so, depending on your body type, it can be a better choice for side sleepers. Conversely, the Casper provides better support, making it a better pick for back and stomach sleepers, again, depending on your body type. If you sleep hot or sleep with a partner, you may prefer the Silk & Snow, since it offers slightly better cooling and dissipates motion more effectively. On the other hand, if ease of movement is your priority, the Casper is bouncier and offers better edge support, both of which make it feel easier to move around on.

This mattress is Medium-Plush. It's conforming enough for sleepers in any weight category, making it a great choice for all side sleepers, but especially average to heavier-weight side sleepers. It offers decent support as well, though it's better-suited to lighter-weight back and stomach sleepers. Heavier and even average-weight people who sleep in these positions will benefit from a more supportive option.

It provides excellent body conformity. Average-weight and heavier people, in particular, sink deeply into the mattress, relieving pressure on the arm and shoulder when side sleeping. Lighter-weight sleepers won't compress the mattress as much, but it still provides good body conformity for people in this weight range.

This mattress offers varying levels of support depending on your body type. It's most supportive for lighter individuals. If you fall into this category, your hips will stay lifted when sleeping on your back or stomach, so your spine stays in a straight line. It offers decent support for average-weight sleepers and mediocre support for heavier-weight sleepers, meaning that the heavier you are, the less support you feel. If you fall into either of these categories and sleep on your back, or particularly your stomach, you'll likely want something more supportive to keep your hips in line with the rest of your body.

There's nothing extra reinforcing the sides, leading to edge support that's just alright. When you sit or sleep near the edges of the mattress, it creates a ramp that makes you feel like you could slip off. This also makes it harder to get in or out of bed, since there's no solid surface to support you.

This mattress has a simple design, with just three layers of foam. The support and transition layers are made of polyfoam, which provides gradual support and makes the mattress more responsive and resilient. The comfort layer is made of open-cell, gel-infused memory foam. This type of memory foam offers increased breathability, helping to keep you cool throughout the night while relieving pressure. Each layer is Certi-Pur certified, meaning they're made without harmful chemicals and heavy metals.

Both the memory foam upper comfort layer and the polyfoam transition layer are very soft. This allows you to sink quite deeply into the mattress and helps provide its impressive pressure relief. The support layer is firmer, though it's still softer than most foam mattresses' support layers.
