Our Verdict

7.3
Side Sleeping
  • 5.9
    Light Weight
  • 7.7
    Average Weight
  • 8.4
    Heavy Weight

The Beautyrest Mattress is very well-suited for heavier side sleepers, whose shoulders will compress it enough for proper pressure relief. It also offers very good body conformity for people in the average weight category. However, it's a 'Medium-Firm' mattress and isn't well-suited for lighter side sleepers, who won't sink in enough for comfortable side sleeping. That said, you'll still sink a little into its soft upper comfort layers, which helps with overall pressure relief.

Pros
  • Soft upper comfort layers let you sink in, which helps with pressure relief.

  • Very good body conformity for average people.

  • Excellent body conformity for heavier people.

Cons
  • Sub-par body conformity for lighter people.

  • 7.0
    Heavy Weight

The Beautyrest Mattress is best-suited for lighter side sleepers, but isn't a bad choice for average and heavier people, either. If you're in the lighter weight category, it offers very good support, so it'll prevent your hips from sinking in overly far. While it doesn't offer the best pressure relief for lighter individuals, its plush upper layers allow you to sink in slightly and help alleviate pressure on your lower back. That said, it doesn't perform as well for average or heavier people, and won't keep your spine as aligned. However, it's still adequately supportive and offers better pressure relief for average and heavier people.

Pros
  • Soft upper comfort layers let you sink in, which helps with pressure relief.

  • Very good support for lighter people.

  • Fairly supportive for average and heavier people.

Cons
None

Stomach Sleeping

    Heavy Weight

The Beautyrest Mattress is a good option for lighter stomach sleepers. It offers very good support for people in that weight category, which helps keep your body aligned when sleeping on your stomach. Its soft upper layers also allow you to sink in and relieve pressure on your hips or knees. While it's fairly supportive for both average and heavier people, if you usually sleep on your stomach, you'll probably want a more supportive mattress.

Pros
  • Very good support for lighter people.

  • Fairly supportive for average and heavier people.

Cons
  • Average and heavier people may need more support for stomach sleeping.

4.0
Longevity

The Beautyrest Mattress isn't durable. It primarily uses low-quality foam, with the exception of a thin polyfoam layer in the quilted top. Some of the layers, like the upper comfort layer, are far from being of good quality. This makes the mattress more prone to sagging or developing permanent indentations sooner compared to mattresses that use better-quality foam.

Pros
None
Cons
  • Most of the foam is low-quality and not very durable.

7.4
Pressure Relief

The Beautyrest Mattress's pressure relief performance varies a lot depending on your weight. This 'Medium-Firm' mattress offers subpar body conformity for lighter individuals, which can make side sleeping uncomfortable. However, it offers very good body conformity for average people and excellent body conformity for heavier people. This means your shoulder and arm will sink in enough to relieve pressure when sleeping on your side, especially if you're in the heavier weight category. Also, regardless of weight, most of your body will sink a few inches into its upper comfort layers. While it doesn't have a hugging feel, its plush upper layers help with pressure relief.

Pros
  • Soft upper comfort layers let you sink in, which helps with pressure relief.

  • Very good body conformity for average people.

  • Excellent body conformity for heavier people.

Cons
  • Sub-par body conformity for lighter people.

7.1
Support

The Beautyrest Mattress is fairly supportive for most people. This Medium-Firm mattress offers very good support for people in the lighter weight category, so your hips will stay in line with the rest of your body when you're sleeping on your back or stomach. While it doesn't perform as well for average or heavier people, it's still fairly supportive, which makes it well-suited for side sleeping and a reasonable choice for stomach sleeping. That said, people in those weight categories may prefer a more supportive mattress for stomach sleeping.

Pros
  • Very good support for lighter people.

  • Fairly supportive for average and heavier people.

Cons
  • Average and heavier people may need more support for stomach sleeping.

7.9
Cooling

The Beautyrest Mattress has very good cooling. It doesn't feel overly warm when you first get into bed and continues to dissipate heat efficiently overnight. While hot sleepers may need a mattress with slightly better cooling to stay comfortable, it's cooling enough for most people.

Pros
  • Cooling enough for most people.

Cons
None
8.2
Motion Dissipation

The Beautyrest Mattress has great motion dissipation. You won't feel every small move. While you do feel bigger movements, like your partner rolling over, motion dissipates quickly, so you only feel a quick shock, not like the mattress is bouncing around. However, it's not the best at isolating motion; larger movements can be felt throughout.

Pros
  • Great motion isolation, so movement is less likely to wake you.

Cons
None
8.8
Responsiveness

The Beautyrest Mattress has high responsiveness. It bounces back almost immediately after being compressed, so it responds to your movements quickly. This helps avoid any feeling of being stuck in place and makes it feel easy to change sleeping positions.

Pros
  • High responsiveness makes it feel easy to change sleeping positions.

    Popular Mattress Comparisons

The Beautyrest Mattress has an excellent overall performance. Like the Beautyrest Silver BRS900, it offers fantastic edge support, making it a good option for individuals with mobility issues who require a stable surface for getting in and out of bed. It also offers a great motion dissipation performance, although if your main priority is preventing movement from waking you, mattresses like the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid (Canadian Version) or Nectar Classic are better options. Similarly, it's very cooling, but if you're a hot sleeper, you might want a more cooling option, such as the Helix Midnight Luxe 2025 or Nectar Premier Hybrid.

If you want to see more options, check out our recommendations for the best mattresses, the best memory foam mattresses, and the best mattresses for side sleepers.

    Sealy Posturepedic Plus Mount Auburn

    Track

The Beautyrest Mattress is better than the Sealy Posturepedic Plus Mount Auburn for most people. These mattresses have a similar medium-firm feel, with moderate sinking and low contouring. However, the Beautyrest offers better cooling and significantly better motion dissipation. It's also much more responsive, which prevents you from feeling stuck in place. The Sealy includes denser foam layers that make it a bit more durable, but they aren't quite dense enough to be considered good quality.

    Beautyrest Black

    Track

The Beautyrest Mattress has a better performance than the Beautyrest Black. The Beautyrest Mattress offers significantly better cooling, motion dissipation, and edge support. That said, the higher-end Black mattress is more durable since it uses a greater proportion of good-quality foam. You might also prefer its more contouring feel.

    Beautyrest Silver BRS900

    Track

The Beautyrest Mattress is better than the Beautyrest Silver BRS900. Both have a medium-firm feel, but the Beautyrest Mattress is more supportive for all weight categories and offers better body conformity for heavier people. This makes it a stronger option for average/heavier back sleepers and heavier side sleepers. It also offers better motion isolation, so light sleepers may prefer it. The Silver has a more responsive feel, which you may prefer if you move around a lot in your sleep.

    Nectar Classic

    Track

The Beautyrest Mattress is better than the Nectar Classic for most people. The Beautyrest has significantly better edge support, so it's more comfortable to sleep near the edge of the mattress. It's also much more responsive, so you're less likely to feel stuck in place, and it's slightly more cooling. That said, the Nectar offers better motion dissipation, so you might prefer it if you're a light sleeper. It also uses better-quality foam overall, although it's not a very durable mattress either.

The Beautyrest Mattress is a 'Medium-Firm' mattress suitable for average and heavier back and stomach sleepers and lighter back/stomach sleepers. It's also a suitable option for average and heavier back sleepers, but individuals in those weight categories will likely prefer a firmer mattress for stomach sleeping. Also, lighter people will want a plusher mattress.

    Indent @ 110 kg (242 lb)
    86 mm (3.4")

The body conformity of this mattress depends on your weight. As you'd expect from a Medium-Firm mattress, it offers poor conformity for lighter people, who won't compress it enough for comfortable side sleeping. However, it offers a very good performance for average people, whose shoulders will sink in enough to relieve pressure, making it a better option for average side sleepers than some Medium-Firm mattresses, including the Beautyrest Silver BRS900. It offers even better body conformity for individuals with a larger build.

This mattress provides adequate support for most individuals, although its level of support varies depending on your weight. It offers very good support for lighter people, making it suitable for back and stomach sleeping. If you're in the average or heavier weight categories, it's not as supportive, but it still performs fairly well. Stomach sleepers require more support and may benefit from a firmer mattress, but it's better suited for average and heavier back sleepers than the Purple Mattress or Beautyrest Silver BRS900.

    8.2
    Bounciness
    Maximum Rebound Height
    22.0 cm (8.7")

It's a very bouncy mattress. It has noticeable 'push-back' which gives it a springy feel, which helps make it feel easy to move around in your sleep.

The upper comfort layers of this mattress have a decently enveloping feel. Most of your body will sink a few inches into the mattress, which creates an enveloping feel. However, it doesn't contour closely around your body. Less of the sleeping surface is in contact with your body, so you feel slightly cradled but not hugged.

The Beautyrest Mattress has great motion isolation. You won't feel every little movement, and motion dissipates quickly, so you'll only feel bigger movements briefly. That said, when you do feel motion, such as when your partner rolls over, you'll feel it throughout the entire mattress.

It has fantastic edge support. The edges are difficult to compress, so they won't sink down much when you sit on the side of the mattress, which makes it easier to get in and out of bed. You can also sleep near the edge without feeling at risk of rolling off.

    7.9
    Cooling

    Energy Transferred Over 8 Hours

It has a very good cooling performance. It dissipates a bit more heat during the first hour of sleep than the Beautyrest Black or Beautyrest Silver BRS900 and continues to provide good cooling overnight. It's cooling enough for most people, but if you're usually a hot sleeper, you may want a mattress with a slightly better performance.

The top layer of the mattress includes three materials quilted together: memory foam, polyfoam, and fiber fill. Below it, there's an upper comfort layer of memory foam. While memory foam typically creates a more contouring feel, it's not a very thick layer, and overall, the upper layers lack the memory foam feel. There's a lower comfort layer of polyfoam, and finally, a polyfoam transition layer, both of which are firmer and bouncier layers that can help support the heavier parts of your body.

It uses mostly low-quality foam. The transition layer, lower comfort layer, and upper comfort layer are all made of less dense, less durable foam, which is more prone to forming permanent indentations compared to higher-quality foam. The memory foam in the quilted top is similarly of low quality. The only foam dense enough to be considered good quality is the polyfoam in the quilted top, which has a density of 26.5 kg/m³.

Since it's quite thin and soft, you'll likely compress it fully and also interact with the memory foam upper comfort layer. This layer is also soft and easily compressed, so you may also feel the firmer lower comfort layer. The transition layer is very firm and helps distribute your weight evenly over the springs, preventing you from feeling the individual coils below.

The quilted top is soft overall, with a softer memory foam layer and a firmer polyfoam layer. The memory foam upper comfort layer is also quite soft and easy to sink into. These layers help give the mattress its firmer feel and prevent you from feeling individual coils below.

Most of the foam in the mattress is quite resilient or bouncy, which helps explain why it's bouncier than many mattresses. The quilted top contains bouncy polyfoam (45%) and less bouncy memory foam (28%) and overall has a fairly springy feel. The memory foam upper comfort layer is also quite resilient, which helps prevent a slow-moving feel. The polyfoam lower comfort and transition layers also have high resilience, so they push back against pressure.
