The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is a budget-friendly hybrid mattress available in a wide range of sizes. The 'Signature Soft' variant features a support layer of tall pocket coils and polyfoam comfort layers.
Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is best suited for average and heavier side sleepers. Sleepers in these categories will find that their shoulders and hips sink far enough into the mattress to avoid painful pressure points, while still maintaining sufficient support to keep the spine decently aligned. On the other hand, this mattress isn't particularly supportive, so some heavier sleepers may find they need more robust support. While the upper comfort layers provide some contouring regardless of weight, lighter side sleepers won't compress the mattress enough for ideal pressure relief.
Decent support for lighter people.
Enveloping comfort layers help with pressure relief.
Fantastic body conformity for heavier people.
Excellent body conformity for average-sized people.
Alright body conformity for lighter people.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is decent for lighter back sleepers, but not ideal for average and heavier back sleepers. It provides impressive pressure relief for average and heavier sleepers, but it's not supportive enough to keep the lumbar region lifted, which is crucial for maintaining a straight spine when sleeping on one's back. The opposite is true for lighter back sleepers; it doesn't relieve pressure as well for sleepers in this category, but it offers decent support, which is more important in this sleeping position.
Decent support for lighter people.
Not supportive enough for average and heavier sleepers.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is not ideal for most stomach sleepers. It doesn't provide enough support to keep average and heavier stomach sleepers comfortable, leading the abdomen to sink and the back to arch. It performs a bit better for lighter stomach sleepers, since their hips will stay more in line with the rest of their body. While it doesn't relieve as much pressure for lighter people, its upper comfort layers have an enveloping feel that will help cushion your hips and knees.
Decent support for lighter people.
Not supportive enough for average and heavier sleepers.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is not a durable option. While the upper comfort layer is made of dense, high-quality polyfoam, the other layers aren't. Both the quilted top and the transition layer contain lower-density, lower-quality polyfoam, and you can expect them to start sagging and forming permanent indents faster than higher-quality foams.
Uses mostly low-quality polyfoam.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid provides impressive pressure relief for average and heavier sleepers. It delivers fantastic body conformity for heavier people, particularly when side sleeping, since their shoulders and hips sink quite far into the mattress, keeping the spine aligned. The same is true for people in the average weight category, though to a lesser extent. Lighter people, however, don't sink far enough into the mattress, creating pressure points at the hips and shoulders when side sleeping. Still, the soft upper layers allow you to sink in slightly and contour closely around you, providing enough pressure relief to keep lighter back and stomach sleepers decently comfortable.
Enveloping comfort layers help with pressure relief.
Fantastic body conformity for heavier people.
Excellent body conformity for average-sized people.
Alright body conformity for lighter people.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid isn't particularly supportive. It delivers decent support for lighter sleepers, keeping the heavier parts of the body somewhat lifted so that the spine remains roughly aligned. However, even in this weight category, it's not the most supportive choice. It performs worse for average and heavier individuals. If you fall into either of these weight categories, the heavier parts of your body will sink too far into the mattress for comfortable back or stomach sleeping.
Decent support for lighter people.
Not supportive enough for average and heavier sleepers.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid offers good cooling. It's not quite cooling enough for hot sleepers, since it only keeps you decently cool as you fall asleep. However, after the first hour of the night, its performance improves, providing efficient cooling for the rest of the night.
Cooling enough for most people.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid delivers very good motion dissipation. When your sleeping partner rolls over, you feel the motion in the lumbar area and much less so at the head and foot of the bed. The movement dissipates quickly, so you're not left bouncing around afterwards, and it's less likely to wake you.
Very good motion dissipation, so movement is unlikely to wake you.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid provides excellent responsiveness. It's a bouncy mattress that recovers quickly when you compress it, supporting your movements and making it easier to shift sleeping positions, so you don't feel stuck in place.
Excellent responsiveness makes it easy to move around.

Popular Mattress Comparisons
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is a hybrid mattress that offers excellent pressure relief for most sleepers, but less impressive support. Although our unit is Brooklyn Bedding's 'Signature Soft' variant, it's actually a medium mattress. Like the Saatva Classic, which is also a hybrid with medium firmness, it doesn't offer sufficient support to maintain spinal alignment for average and heavier sleepers, especially those who primarily sleep on their back or stomach. However, it offers better pressure relief than the Saatva, which benefits average and heavier side sleepers in particular, since their shoulders and hips are able to sink further into the mattress, avoiding pressure points. While it's not as cooling as an option like the Casper Snow, it transfers heat efficiently enough for most people, especially after the first hour of the night. One downside of this mattress is that it's not a very durable pick. While it does contain one layer of high-quality polyfoam, the rest of its foam layers are made of low-density foam, which will begin to sag faster than higher-quality foams. If you're looking for a more durable option with a similar firmness level, you might like the Big Fig Mattress, which uses only good- or high-quality foam.

We've recently started testing mattresses. We use objective data and repeatable testing for key characteristics like firmness, cooling, and motion isolation, to ensure each mattress gets the same treatment. Since we buy all of our mattresses, we can tear them down layer by layer and isolate the mechanical properties of every component: quilted tops, foams, coils, and any special materials. Our approach gives us unprecedented insight into how each product design decision contributes to a mattress's overall performance and feel, and allows us to tailor our results to different body types and sleeping positions.
Test Results
Although this is the 'Signature Soft' variant of the mattress, it has a medium firmness level. Just to be sure, we ran our firmness test twice and obtained the same results. It's an excellent pick for average and heavier side sleepers and a decent pick for lighter back and stomach sleepers. Lighter side sleepers won't compress the mattress enough for comfort, however, and heavier back and stomach sleepers will benefit from a more supportive option.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress offers impressive body conformity for people in the average and heavier weight categories. If you're an average-weight side sleeper, your hips and shoulders will sink far enough into the mattress to avoid pressure points and keep your spine aligned. Its performance is even more impressive for heavier individuals. Unfortunately, lighter sleepers don't compress the mattress enough for comfort, creating uncomfortable pressure on the hips and shoulders.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid doesn't offer very good support, regardless of which weight category you fall into. It performs best for lighter sleepers, keeping the hips lifted enough for a decent, but not impressively comfortable sleeping experience if you sleep on your back or stomach. It performs a little worse for average and heavier sleepers, so if you fall into either of these weight categories, you should opt for something with more robust support, especially if you sleep on your back or stomach.
It's a bouncy mattress. It has a springy feel that makes it easy to move around and change positions while sleeping.
The comfort layers have an enveloping feel. The soft, quilted top and upper comfort layer allow you to sink into the mattress's surface slightly, while also contouring around your body fairly closely. This combination creates a lightly hugging feeling that helps relieve pressure and support the lighter parts of your body.
It has a very responsive feel. While it doesn't respond instantly, the surface of the mattress bounces back very quickly as you move. This makes it easier to shift sleeping positions, so you don't feel stuck or constrained.
It delivers very good motion isolation. You still feel movement nearby, but it stays mostly isolated. If your partner rolls over, for example, you feel it in the lumbar area, but not much at the head or foot of the bed. Motion doesn't last long, either, so you don't feel the mattress wobble every time someone moves, making movement less likely to wake you.
It offers fantastic edge support. Tightly coiled 15-gauge pocket coils line the left and right sides of the mattress, making these areas harder to compress. When you sit or sleep near the edges, they compress a tiny bit less than the center of the mattress, so you're drawn towards the middle of the mattress instead of being pushed out towards the edge. While some mattresses compress less overall, this means you don't feel like you're going to slip off the sides.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid provides very good cooling. It only keeps you decently cool during the first hour of the night, but its performance picks up after that. Throughout the rest of an eight-hour night, it transfers an impressive amount of heat away from you, keeping you very cool. Overall, it's not quite cooling enough for hot sleepers, but it'll keep most sleepers comfortable.
The left and right sides of the mattress are reinforced with tightly coiled 15-gauge pocket coils, giving the mattress its outstanding edge support.
There are four layers of foam in this mattress. The quilted top is made up of fiber fill and two identical layers of soft polyfoam. Together, these materials provide a soft surface that still responds quickly to movement. The upper comfort layer below is made of another soft layer of polyfoam that allows you to sink further in. The transition layer is made of a proprietary foam Brooklyn Bedding calls 'VariFlex,' but they don't provide much info on what differentiates this foam from other polyurethane foams.
Most of this mattress's foam layers aren't dense enough to be considered good quality. The polyfoam layers in the quilted top and the VariFlex transition layer are all lower-density, lower-quality foams and you can expect them to start sagging or forming permanent indents faster than denser foams. Conversely, the upper comfort layer is made of dense, high-quality foam, which will hold up longer than the other layers.
This mattress has 4.4" (11.2 cm) of foam above its pocket coil support layer. The quilted top, including both layers of polyfoam and fiber fill, is 1.7" (4.4 cm), while the upper comfort layer is 1.6" (4 cm) thick. The transition layer of VariFlex polyfoam is 1.1" (2.8 cm) thick. Both light and average-weight sleepers will sink through the quilted top and partially compress the upper comfort layer. Heavier sleepers will also sink through the upper comfort layer and mostly compress the transition foam as well.
This mattress contains three distinct types of pocket coils. There are 13-gauge springs at the head, foot, and lumbar areas, while the remaining surface area is made up of thinner, 14-gauge springs. The left and right sides contain 15-gauge coils, and while they're thinner than those in the rest of the mattress, they're very tightly wound. This makes them harder to compress, giving the mattress its fantastic edge support. Compared to other hybrid mattresses, the spring layer is a little taller, giving this otherwise average-height mattress a higher spring-to-foam ratio and contributing to its bounciness and responsiveness.
The polyfoam in the quilted top is quite soft, allowing you to sink into this layer and partially compress the polyfoam upper comfort layer below, which is nearly as soft. The transition layer, made of Brooklyn Bedding's trademarked VariFlex polyfoam, is significantly firmer, providing gradual support so you don't notice the firmness of the springs below too abruptly.
Pocket springs make up the firmest layer of the mattress, providing support for the heaviest parts of your body and ensuring they don't sink too deeply. The coils in the lumbar region, in particular, are quite firm compared to the coils in other hybrids, while those at the head and foot of the bed offer a more moderate firmness level. Although the mattress isn't very supportive overall, which impacts its performance for back and stomach sleepers, this configuration provides extra support for the lumbar area, which keeps this cohort of sleepers a bit more comfortable.
Most of the foam in this mattress is very resilient, or bouncy. The polyfoam in the quilted top is the most resilient overall, contributing to the mattress's excellent responsiveness. This quality makes it easy to move around since the surface of the mattress quickly bounces back to support you each time you shift positions. The polyfoam in the upper comfort layer is still resilient, though much less so, making the mattress a little less bouncy. The polyfoam transition layer is nearly as resilient as the quilted top, further contributing to the mattress's moderate bounciness overall.
The spring layer is moderately bouncy. They push back when compressed, making it easier to move around and adding support for the heaviest parts of your body. The foam layers are quite resilient, too, producing a moderately bouncy mattress overall.
