Side Sleeping
  • 6.4
    Light Weight
  • 8.1
    Average Weight
  • 8.7
    Heavy Weight

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge is best suited to average-weight and heavier side sleepers, who sink in enough for the comfort layers to relieve pressure on the shoulders and hips. The pillow top also wraps closely around your body as you settle in, so you get a cradled feeling rather than just resting on top of the mattress. Lighter side sleepers don't get quite the same benefit, since there isn't enough give under their weight to let the surface contour as closely.

Pros
  • Heavier side sleepers will sink in enough for excellent pressure relief.

  • Great pressure relief for average-weight side sleepers.

  • Molds closely to your body, creating an enveloping feeling.

Cons
  • Lighter side sleepers may not sink in far enough for adequate pressure relief.

    Average Weight
  • 6.6
    Heavy Weight

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge isn't ideal for back sleeping at any body weight. Lighter back sleepers get the best spinal alignment, but they also see the least pressure relief at contact points like the shoulders, so the body doesn't get much cushioning to offset that lack of give. As body weight increases, the opposite trade-off emerges: pressure relief improves noticeably, but the hips sink lower than the rest of the torso, straining the lower back over the course of the night.

Pros
  • Provides decent support to lightweight sleepers, so your spine stays mostly aligned.

Cons
  • Doesn't support proper spinal alignment for average-weight or heavier back sleepers.

    Heavy Weight

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge isn't a good fit for stomach sleeping at any body weight. Stomach sleeping puts a lot of pressure on your midsection, so even a small amount of sinkage there can pull your spine out of alignment. Lighter sleepers fare best, since they sink in less, but they still won't get ideal support. Average-weight and heavier sleepers will sink in further, putting more strain on the lower back.

Pros
  • Provides decent support to lightweight sleepers, so your spine stays mostly aligned.

Cons
  • Doesn't support proper spinal alignment in average-weight or heavier stomach sleepers.

    Firmness

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge is a Medium mattress with a plush pillow top and memory foam layers that let you sink in deeply, creating an enveloping, comfortable feel, especially for average-weight and heavier people. However, a firmer upper comfort layer prevents lighter people from sinking in as much, so they won't get as much pressure relief. A layer of medium-firm pocket coils provides some support, but it's not very supportive for most people.

    Firmness

This mattress has a Medium firmness level, which puts it in a comfortable middle ground for a range of sleepers. It's a good fit if you're an average-weight or heavier side sleeper, since the surface provides enough give for your shoulders and hips to sink in and relieve pressure at those contact points. That said, it's not the best choice for back and stomach sleepers because it doesn't provide enough support.

    Foam Layer Thickness

This mattress has a substantial amount of material above the spring system, with a thick quilted top, followed by two additional comfort foam layers, before reaching the transition foam. That extra cushioning gives side sleepers plenty of room to sink in before hitting firmer material underneath.

    Spring Layer Dimensions

The pocket coils in the support layer feature a unique design: each individually wrapped coil consists of a wider outer coil that wraps a narrower, pyramid-shaped inner coil. Light pressure compresses only the outer coil, but once you sink in far enough, the inner coil engages as well, providing more support. At 15 gauge, the wire is considered medium in firmness.

    Foam Layer Firmness

The quilted top and memory foam layer are both fairly soft, making them ideal for side sleepers, but the layers in between them are a little firmer. The transition foam is then substantially firmer, preventing you from sinking into the coils.

    Spring Layer Firmness

The support layer's coils have a medium-firm feel. They're slightly firmer at the lumbar region than at the head and feet, providing a bit of extra resistance where the body carries the most weight.

    5.3

    Longevity

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge isn't very durable. None of its foam layers meet the density we'd expect for lasting comfort and support, so you're more likely to see body impressions and sagging develop in the comfort layers over time. The coil support system underneath doesn't carry that same risk, but most of the wear you'll actually feel happens in the layers closest to your body.

    Pros
    Cons
    • None of the foam layers meet the density we'd expect for long-term durability.

    • Body impressions and sagging are likely to develop in the comfort layers.

    5.3
    Foam Layer Mass Density

Durability is a weak point for this mattress. None of the foam layers meets the density thresholds we look for in long-lasting foam. This means you're more likely to see body impressions and sagging develop in the comfort layers over time compared to a mattress built with denser foam.

    Pressure Relief

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge offers strong overall pressure relief, but it's heavily dependent on your body weight. This matters most if you sleep on your side, since that position concentrates weight onto smaller areas like the shoulder and hip. Lighter sleepers don't get much pressure relief at those contact points, which can lead to aches and pain over time. Average-weight and heavier sleepers sink in more, allowing the surface to cushion their shoulders and hips more effectively. The pillow top's close, hugging feel adds a bit more cushioning, though it's not quite enough to close the gap for lighter sleepers.

    Pros
    • Molds closely to your body, creating an enveloping feeling.

    • Great pressure relief for average-weight and heavier people.

    Cons
    7.7
    Body Conformity

The Stearns & Foster Lakeridge has good overall body conformity, making it ideal for side sleeping. The amount of pressure relief you'll receive, however, depends largely on your body weight. It offers the most pressure relief to average-weight and heavier people because they sink deeper into the material. Lighter people won't sink in enough for proper pressure relief and may be better suited to a plusher mattress.

    8.3
    Comfort Layers Envelopment

This mattress does an excellent job of molding closely around your body. You'll sink into the pillow top significantly, and it contours around you quite closely, so you'll feel cradled instead of like you're just resting on top of the mattress.

    6.6

    Support

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge provides mediocre support, with the likelihood of morning aches increasing as body weight increases. Lighter sleepers see the closest alignment between their hips and the rest of the body, helping keep the spine in a more neutral position and making it a decent choice for back and stomach sleepers in that weight category. Average and heavier-weight people sink in much more, which can throw the spine out of alignment and raise the chances of waking up sore.

    Pros
    • Provides decent support to lightweight sleepers, so your spine stays mostly aligned.

    Cons
    • Only provides mediocre support to average and heavy-weight sleepers.

    6.6
    Support

This mattress doesn't provide great support. It's most supportive for lighter-weight people, who won't sink in far enough into the mattress to bring their hips out of alignment. But as body weight increases, it becomes less supportive and fails to promote proper spinal alignment. This means it's not ideal for most back and stomach sleepers. If you're looking for a Costco model that's a better fit, consider the Sealy Posturepedic Pro Highland Manor.

    7.9

    Cooling

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge is cooling enough for most people. It doesn't feel warm when you first get into bed, and it continues dissipating heat at a steady pace through the night rather than gradually building up warmth. That said, it falls short of the level we'd recommend for true hot sleepers, who may want a mattress with even better cooling performance.

    Pros
    • Doesn't feel warm when you first get into bed.

    • Dissipates heat throughout the night.

    Cons
    • Not cooling enough for very hot sleepers.

    7.9
    Cooling

This mattress offers very good cooling performance. It doesn't feel warm when you first get into bed, and it effectively dissipates heat throughout the night, keeping most people comfortable. If you're a very hot sleeper, though, you might prefer a mattress that offers even better cooling.

    8.6

    Motion Dissipation

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge offers excellent motion dissipation, so a partner shifting in their sleep or a pet hopping onto the bed shouldn't wake you up from a deep sleep. Movement stays relatively contained to where it happens and dissipates quickly, so it won't cause the bed to bounce or wobble.

    Pros
    • Motion settles quickly rather than causing the mattress to wobble.

    • A partner's movements or a pet hopping onto the bed are unlikely to disturb your sleep.

    Cons
    8.6
    Motion Isolation

The Kirkland by Stearns & Foster Lakeridge provides excellent motion isolation, so if you share your bed with a partner or a pet, you shouldn't be disturbed by their movements. You'll mostly feel movement near the source, and the motion settles quickly without causing the mattress to bounce or wobble.

    8.5

    Responsiveness

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge springs back into shape quickly after you change sleeping positions. That makes it easy to move around or shift positions throughout the night. That said, its pillow top and foam comfort layers make it less bouncy than a traditional innerspring mattress.

    Pros
    • Springs back into shape quickly, making it easy to change positions.

    • You won't feel "stuck" in the mattress.

    Cons
    • Not as bouncy as a traditional innerspring mattress.

    8.8
    Responsiveness

This mattress feels extremely responsive. It bounces back quickly, making it easy to move around or change sleeping positions.

    Spring Layer Bounciness

The support spring layer is fairly bouncy. However, with several layers of foam sitting on top, much of that energetic push-back gets absorbed before it reaches the surface, so you won't feel the full bounce of the coils underneath you.

    7.1
    Bounciness

This isn't a particularly bouncy mattress. It pushes back against movement rather than absorbing it, but the pillow top tempers that bounciness, so it will take a little effort to switch positions.

    Foam Layer Resilience

The quilted top, upper comfort foam, and transition layer are all quite resilient and spring back quickly. The memory foam layer sandwiched between them does the opposite, absorbing movement rather than bouncing back. The result is a mattress that feels moderately bouncy and makes it relatively easy to switch positions throughout the night.

    9.3

    Edge Support

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge has fantastic edge support. The edges are reinforced with firmer pocket coils and are difficult to compress, so you won't sink in much when you sit on the side of the mattress. They compress evenly instead of forming a ramp, so if you sleep near the side, you won't feel pushed out of bed.

    Pros
    • Edges are difficult to compress.

    • Edges don't form a ramp when compressed, so you won't feel pushed out of bed if you sleep on the side.

    Cons
    9.3
    Edge Support

This mattress offers outstanding edge support. You won't feel like you're about to roll off if you sleep near the edge, which means more usable surface area if you're sharing the bed.

    Edge Construction

This mattress features reinforced pocket-coil edges that provide fantastic edge support.

    Additional Tests
    Design Style

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge is advertised as a 14.5-inch (36.8 cm) mattress, but the model we tested was a full inch shorter. Still, you may need to use a deep-pocket fitted sheet.

    Popular Mattress Comparisons

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge is a mid-range hybrid that brings the Stearns & Foster name to Costco at a more accessible price point than the brand's higher-end lines. It's a solid option for average-weight and heavier side sleepers, who get strong pressure relief at the shoulder and hip, and its motion isolation makes it a comfortable pick if you share the bed with a partner or pet. Its pillow top provides a cozy, enveloping feel, and it features excellent edge support, which isn't always a given at this price point.

That said, it's not the best choice for back or stomach sleepers of any weight. If that's your primary sleep position, the Casper Snow offers much better support, though its slow-recovering memory foam comes with its own trade-offs. If cooling is your top priority, the Nectar Premier Hybrid edges it out while sharing a similar Medium firmness. None of the Lakeridge's foam layers meet the density we look for in long-lasting comfort, so expect more sagging over the years than you'd get from the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate or the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid, both of which use higher-quality foam.

    Sealy Posturepedic Pro Highland Manor

The Sealy Posturepedic Pro Highland Manor and the Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge are both Costco-exclusive hybrid mattresses, but the Sealy will suit a wider range of sleepers. It's firmer than the Kirkland, making it a better fit for back and stomach sleepers and helping keep their spines aligned. The Kirkland has thicker foam layers and is less firm overall, making it a better fit for side sleepers. Neither mattress holds up especially well over the long term, as both use foam below the density we look for in lasting comfort.

    Casper Cooling Select Hybrid

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge and the Casper Cooling Select Hybrid are pretty evenly matched overall, but they have a few differences to consider. Go for the Kirkland Stearns & Foster if you sleep on your side, since it offers a little extra pressure relief, which helps cushion your shoulder in this position. Its excellent motion dissipation also makes it a better choice for partnered sleepers, especially if one tends to toss and turn. The Casper, on the other hand, offers more support for back and stomach sleepers. It's also a better choice for hot sleepers, since it transfers more heat away from you throughout an eight-hour night.

    Stearns & Foster Lux Estate

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge and the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate are both hybrid mattresses and are best for side sleepers, but they differ in construction. The Lux Estate uses pocket coils in both its comfort and support sections, plus a latex transition layer, for a softer Medium-Plush feel that also holds up better over time thanks to denser foam. The Lakeridge sticks to foam-only comfort layers over a single coil system, landing at a firmer Medium with stronger edge support and a more enveloping feel.

    Casper Snow

The Kirkland Stearns & Foster Pillow Top Lakeridge and the Casper Snow are both Medium hybrid mattresses, but the Casper is the better choice for most people. It layers two stages of memory foam over its coils, so you sink in deeply and feel closely hugged, and it offers much better support for back and stomach sleepers, whose hips stay aligned at any weight. It's also ideal for hot sleepers, offering excellent heat dissipation throughout the night. That said, not everyone likes the feeling of memory foam, so side sleepers may prefer the Stearns & Foster, which lets you move around and shift positions more easily.
