While most mattresses are available in a variety of sizes, from Twin to California King, Queen mattresses are among the most popular and versatile. This mattress size offers extra length versus Full/Double mattresses, plus enough width for couples, while still fitting into bedrooms that are a little less than queen-sized.
The best Queen mattresses offer good pressure relief and support for a variety of body types and sleeping positions. Couples looking for a Queen-size mattress will want strong motion dissipation, so movement stays localized and is less likely to wake you. You'll also want solid edge support, since sagging edges reduce the comfortable sleeping space, which is especially important if you sleep with a partner.
We've tested more than 55 Queen-sized mattresses, and below, you'll find our recommendations for the best Queen mattresses you can buy. These mattresses are all well-suited for couples. If you want more recommendations or have a specific concern, we also recommend the best cooling mattresses, the best firm mattresses, and the best memory foam mattresses. We've recently started testing mattresses. We purchase each unit independently from major retailers, just like you, to keep our reviews free of manufacturer influence. Each mattress undergoes the same tests to measure objective data on characteristics like firmness, cooling, and motion isolation, so you can easily compare results. Since we buy all our mattresses, we can tear them down layer by layer and isolate the mechanical properties of every component: quilted tops, foams, coils, and any special materials.

Best Queen Mattress
Side Sleeping8.3Back Sleeping8.5Stomach Sleeping8.6Motion Dissipation8.5Cooling8.9See all our test resultsFirmness LevelMedium (47 Pa/mm)The best Queen mattress that we've tested is the Casper Snow. This Medium mattress offers strong pressure relief and support for a range of body types and sleeping positions, making it a good place to start if you and your partner need something that suits both of you. Its comfort layers are made of soft, contouring memory foam that gives it an enveloping feel, while firm pocket coils add support. Regardless of your weight, it offers enough pressure relief for side sleeping and solid support for back/stomach sleeping. This mattress also offers excellent motion dissipation, so you won't feel most of your partner's movements. Despite its enveloping feel and memory foam layers, it offers excellent cooling performance, making it a good option for hot sleepers.
That said, while its edge support is passable, if you want as much comfortable sleeping space as possible from your Queen mattress, you may want a mattress with sturdier sides. This mattress's foam layers are also made of low-quality foam and will be prone to forming body impressions sooner than mattresses that use higher-quality materials, which can negatively affect its support performance over time.

Best Upper Mid-Range Queen Mattress
Side Sleeping5.0Back Sleeping8.0Stomach Sleeping8.9Motion Dissipation9.0Cooling8.1See all our test resultsFirmness LevelFirm (130 Pa/mm)The Sleep On Latex Hybrid mattress is worth considering if you sleep on your back or stomach and feel constricted by very enveloping, slow-moving mattresses like the Casper Snow. This mattress's upper comfort layer is made of springy, responsive latex, so unlike the Casper, it responds quickly when you move. It also has a much firmer feel, so you sink less into it, and it won't offer enough pressure relief for side sleepers in general. However, it offers very strong support for people in a range of weight categories, making it a great option for back and stomach sleepers.
While its latex and pocket coil layers give it a bouncy feel that makes it easy to move around on, it also offers fantastic motion dissipation. You won't feel most of your partner's movements, so it's a good option if you're easily disturbed by motion. The edges are very sturdy, so you can sleep near the sides without feeling like you're sliding out of bed. This mattress is also very durable, since the only foam in the mattress is dense, high-quality latex. It's flippable, with an identical design on both sides, so you can flip it over to increase its longevity. Overall, its design will help it resist forming permanent body impressions and maintain its outstanding support for longer.

Best Mid-Range Queen Mattress
Side Sleeping7.9Back Sleeping7.7Stomach Sleeping7.6Motion Dissipation9.0Cooling8.4See all our test resultsFirmness LevelMedium (46 Pa/mm)If you're a combination sleeper or you and your partner have different sleeping styles, you might prefer the mid-range Tuft and Needle Mint. This Medium hybrid mattress doesn't offer the same fantastic support performance as the Sleep On Latex Hybrid, but it works for a wider variety of sleeping positions. It'll do a decent job of keeping your spine aligned if you sleep on your back or stomach, regardless of what weight category you fall into. Unlike the previous pick, it also provides enough pressure relief for side sleepers across a range of weights. You'll sink more into it, but its responsive polyfoam comfort layers prevent you from feeling hugged or constricted.
This mattress offers superb motion dissipation, so you can sleep with a partner and not feel every move they make, while its impressively sturdy edges increase the comfortable sleeping space. Despite the all-foam design, it's impressively cooling and suitable for hot sleepers. However, it's not as durable as the Sleep On Latex. The support layer is made of good-quality foam, but the lower-quality foam used for the comfort layers will be prone to forming body impressions, which may affect its support and pressure relief performance over time.

Best Budget Queen Mattress
Side Sleeping8.1Back Sleeping7.3Stomach Sleeping7.1Motion Dissipation9.4Cooling8.1See all our test resultsFirmness LevelMedium-Plush (39 Pa/mm)The Silk & Snow Mattress is a great budget-friendly Queen mattress for couples, especially for lighter people and side sleepers. This Medium-Plush mattress's softer comfort layers help it conform around your arm and shoulder when you sleep on your side, making it a better option for lighter and average-weight side sleepers. While it's not as supportive as the Tuft and Needle Mint overall, it's still a decent option for light and average-weight back or stomach sleepers. It also offers even better motion dissipation. You'll barely feel any of your partner's movements, even near the source, so it's a good choice if you sleep very lightly and motion isolation is a priority.
That said, it's decidedly unbouncy, which makes it feel more difficult to move around on. Still, it's responsive, with a less contouring sleeping surface that helps prevent you from feeling held in place or tightly hugged. This mattress's impressive cooling performance makes it a good option for hot sleepers, and it's reasonably durable. All of the foam in the mattress is dense, good-quality polyfoam or memory foam, which is impressive at this price point, and will help it resist sagging longer than options with lower-quality foam. Edge support is a bit of a weak point, though, and compared to previous picks, it won't be as comfortable to sleep on the very edge of the mattress.

Best Cheap Queen Mattress
Side Sleeping6.7Back Sleeping7.3Stomach Sleeping7.5Motion Dissipation8.8Cooling8.3See all our test resultsFirmness LevelMedium-Firm (54 Pa/mm)The Allswell Hybrid is worth considering if you want a decent mattress for cheap, or if you're in the heavier weight category and the Silk & Snow Mattress's plusher feel doesn't work for you. This Medium-Firm hybrid mattress doesn't offer enough pressure relief for lighter side sleepers, unlike the previous pick. However, average-weight and heavier side sleepers will sink in enough for proper pressure relief. It also offers at least decent support for most people, including heavier people, making it suitable for most back and stomach sleepers. Its motion isolation isn't quite as good as the Silk & Snow's, and you'll feel more movement in general. However, motion is only felt briefly near the source, not throughout the mattress, so it's still a good option for couples, especially since its excellent edge support gives you more comfortable sleeping space.
While it's conforming enough for average and heavier side sleepers, it doesn't have the best pressure relief performance overall. You may want more cushioning even for back and stomach sleeping, especially if you're in the lighter weight category. Finally, it's not particularly durable. It uses a mix of good and lower-quality foams, and compared to mattresses that use only higher-quality materials, you may notice sagging or indents that affect its support performance sooner.
Notable Mentions
-
Saatva Rx:
The Saatva Rx is a high-end mattress with versatile performance. It doesn't offer as much pressure relief for lighter people as the Casper Snow, and it performs worse in motion isolation, but it has a much more responsive feel, so you're less likely to feel stuck in place.

Casper Cooling Select:
The Casper Cooling Select is a cheap hybrid mattress with a Medium feel. It's as supportive as the Allswell Hybrid, but offers better pressure relief, so lighter and average-weight people may prefer it. However, its edges aren't as sturdy, and its cooling is worse.
