The Novaform Legacy is a mid-range mattress with a support layer of pocket coils, upper layers of polyfoam and memory foam, and a quilted layer with fiber fill and polyfoam. The transition layer and coils are zoned, so they're different at the head/foot of the mattress, which is marketed as a 'lift zone' for your back. The materials in the mattress are Certipur-US certified, meaning they have low VOC emissions and contain no heavy metals.
This mattress has a firm feel overall and feels a little plusher in the lumbar area. The firm feel is best-suited for average and heavier back/stomach sleepers, as most side sleepers and lighter back/stomach sleepers will want something plusher for support. It's moderately bouncy and very responsive, so it feels easy to change sleeping positions. You won't sink into it much, so it's a mattress you sleep 'on' and not 'in.' It's also very contouring, so it molds around your body.
Our Verdict
The Novaform Legacy offers a very good sleeping experience overall. It dissipates heat efficiently enough to keep hot sleepers comfortable. Also, its motion dissipation performance is excellent, so it's a good option if you sleep with a partner who tosses and turns. Its high responsiveness makes it feel easy to change sleeping positions. However, edge support is a weak point. Its edges compress a lot when you sit or sleep on the side of the bed, so if you like to sleep near the edge of the mattress or need a solid surface for getting in and out of bed, it's not a good option.
High responsiveness makes it easy to move around.
Excellent motion dissipation, so movement isn't likely to wake you.
Cooling enough for hot sleepers.
Uses mostly good-quality foam.
Firm feel is suitable for average and heavier back/stomach sleepers.
Too firm for lighter back/stomach sleepers and most side sleepers.
Disappointing edge support reduces the comfortable sleeping surface.
The Novaform Legacy has a great cooling performance. This mattress doesn't feel overly warm when you first get into bed, and it dissipates heat efficiently overnight. It's cooling enough to keep hot sleepers comfortable.
Cooling enough for hot sleepers.
The Novaform Legacy has an excellent motion dissipation performance. It's great at isolating movement, so you won't feel smaller movements. Bigger movements are only perceptible near the source, like near the lumbar area when your partner rolls over. Motion also dissipates quickly, so you won't feel like the mattress wobbles whenever someone moves.
Excellent motion dissipation, so movement isn't likely to wake you.
The Novaform Legacy has a disappointing edge support performance. The support layer is reinforced with polyfoam, but it doesn't help make the edges sturdy. They compress easily, which makes it more difficult to get in and out of bed, and can make you feel at risk of sliding out of the bed if you sleep on the edge of the mattress.
Disappointing edge support reduces the comfortable sleeping surface.
The Novaform Legacy is extremely responsive. The mattress regains its shape very quickly after being compressed, so it responds fast to your movements. This helps make changing sleeping positions feel easier and avoids any feeling of being constricted.
High responsiveness makes it easy to move around.
The Novaform Legacy is moderately durable. Most of its foam layers are made of dense, good-quality foam, including the memory foam upper comfort layer and polyfoam transition layer. These layers should resist sagging for longer compared with low-quality foam. The quilted top contains lower-quality polyfoam, though, so it's more prone to forming permanent indentations sooner.
Uses mostly good-quality foam.

The Novaform Legacy is a hybrid mattress with a good overall performance, except when it comes to edge support. If you like to sleep near the edge of the mattress or need a solid surface when getting in and out of bed, models like the Saatva Latex Hybrid or WinkBeds The WinkBed offer a better performance. That said, its motion dissipation is much better than some other firm mattresses, including the Saatva and the Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic, so it may be a better option if you're a light sleeper. Its great cooling performance makes it more suitable for hot sleepers than some other Novaform models, like the Novaform Serafina Pearl and the Novaform ComfortGrande Plus.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is better than the Novaform Legacy for most people. The Saatva is more cooling and has significantly better edge support, so it's more comfortable to sleep near the side of the mattress. It also contains more durable foam. That said, the Novaform has a better motion dissipation performance, so it's worth considering if you're a light sleeper.
The Sealy Posturepedic Plus Mount Auburn and the Novaform Legacy have different strengths. The Novaform is more cooling, so it's a better option for hot sleepers. It also offers a better motion dissipation performance, so movement is less likely to wake you up. Its more responsive feel also makes it easier to move around in your sleep. That said, the Sealy has significantly better edge support, which makes getting in and out of bed easier, especially for people with mobility issues.
The Novaform Legacy is better than the Nectar Classic Hybrid for most people. The Novaform is more cooling, offers better motion dissipation, and has a more responsive feel. It also uses more good-quality foam, making it more durable. On the other hand, the Nectar offers significantly better edge support, so it's more comfortable to sit or sleep on the edge of the mattress.
The WinkBeds The WinkBed and the Novaform Legacy have different strengths. The WinkBed has significantly better edge support, so you can comfortably sit or sleep on the side of the mattress. The Novaform has slightly better cooling and significantly better motion dissipation, making it a better option for hot sleepers or light sleepers.
We've recently started testing mattresses. We use objective data and repeatable testing for key characteristics like firmness, cooling, and motion isolation, to ensure each mattress gets the same treatment. Since we buy all of our mattresses, we can tear them down layer by layer and isolate the mechanical properties of every component: quilted tops, foams, coils, and any special materials. Our approach gives us unprecedented insight into how each product design decision contributes to a mattress's overall performance and feel, and allows us to tailor our results to different body types and sleeping positions.
Test Results
It's a firm mattress, so it's best-suited for average and heavier back/stomach sleepers. Most side sleepers and some lighter back/stomach sleepers may need something plusher for proper pressure relief. However, it's softer around the lumbar area. The support springs are firmer in the lumbar area, so the extra lumbar softness is likely due to the advertised zoned polyfoam layer.
It's moderately bouncy. Unlike some all-foam models from the brand, such as the Novaform Serafina Pearl, it has a springy feel that makes it easy to move around in your sleep.
You don't sink very deeply into the mattress, so it's a mattress you sleep 'on' and not 'in,' especially if you're lighter. The upper layers contour around your body closely.
This mattress is very responsive, so it recovers its shape very quickly after being compressed. This means it responds very quickly to your movements, making it feel easier to move around in your sleep.
It has an excellent motion dissipation performance. You'll only feel movements briefly and mostly near the source, so if your dog jumps onto the foot of the bed, you won't feel it around your head. The all-foam Novaform ComfortGrande Plus does a better job of dampening and dissipating motion quickly, but overall, it's an excellent option for light sleepers.
Its edge support is disappointing. The sides of the mattress compress easily and form a ramp outward, so when you sit or sleep near the edge of the bed, you feel at risk of sliding off. This makes it more difficult to get in and out of bed and reduces the comfortable sleeping space.
It has great cooling. It doesn't feel overly warm when you first get into bed and dissipates heat efficiently all night. It's cooling enough even for hot sleepers.
The mattress's edges have polyfoam instead of coils for the support layer. However, the sides of the bed still compress easily, and its edge support performance is disappointing.
The quilted top is made of polyfoam and fiber fill, which helps give the mattress its responsive feel. The upper comfort layer is memory foam, which has a contouring feel. The transition layer of polyfoam below helps distribute your weight over the spring layer below.
Most of the foam in the mattress is of good quality, including the memory foam upper comfort layer and polyfoam transition layer. These layers are made of denser, good-quality foam that will resist sagging and forming permanent indentations for longer compared to lower-quality materials. However, the polyfoam in the quilted top is lower quality and may start to form permanent indentations sooner.
The quilted top is about 5.4 cm (2.1") thick and quite soft, so you'll likely compress it completely. The memory foam upper comfort layer is 5.8 cm (2.3") and much firmer. The transition layer's thickness varies: it has a consistent thickness of 6.9 cm (2.7") in the lumbar area, but at the head/foot of the mattress, its thickness ranges between 6.9 cm (2.7") and 6.4 cm (2.5").
This mattress uses 13-gauge springs at the head/foot and 14-gauge springs in the lumbar area. While 14-gauge coils are made of thinner wire and are usually softer, they seem to be made of stiffer material. The spring layer overall has similar stiffness in the lumbar area and at the head/foot, with the lumbar being slightly stiffer. Here's a comparison of both types of springs.
The quilted top is quite soft, but because of the firmer layer below, you only sink in a bit. This upper layer helps give the mattress its minimal sinking and high responsiveness. The memory foam upper comfort layer is firm for a comfort layer, so it'll add contouring but won't cause you to sink deeply. The transition layer is much softer, which is unusual and may allow the heavier parts of your body, like your hips, to sink in further if you compress the layer above enough.
The pocket coil support layer is very firm. Unlike the mattress as a whole, it's a little firmer in the lumbar area. These coils are difficult to compress and help give the mattress its firm feel overall, which can help with spinal alignment for back/stomach sleepers.
The quilted top is very resilient, or bouncy. This helps give the mattress its responsive overall feel. The memory foam upper comfort layer is much less so, which is normal for the material. It has a slower-moving, less bouncy feel. The polyfoam layer below is also quite bouncy.
