Our Verdict

7.7
Side Sleeping
  • 6.5
    Light Weight
  • 7.9
    Average Weight
  • 8.6
    Heavy Weight

The Avocado Green is a good option for average-weight and heavier side sleepers. Your arm and shoulder will sink deeply into the upper comfort layer, which is very contouring and helps add pressure relief when you sleep on your side. It's also impressively supportive, so your hips will stay in line with the rest of your body. However, if you're in the lighter weight category, you won't sink into the mattress enough for proper pressure relief when side sleeping.

Pros
  • Impressive body conformity for average-weight people.

  • Excellent body conformity for heavier people.

Cons
  • Disappointing body conformity for lighter people.

Back Sleeping

    Heavy Weight

The Avocado Green is a great option for most back sleepers. Regardless of your weight, it's very supportive, so your hips will stay in line with the rest of your body, and your spine will stay aligned when you're sleeping on your back. The conforming, contouring latex comfort layer helps cushion pressure points like your lower back and shoulders.

Pros
  • Impressive support for most people.

  • Highly contouring, envelopn comfort layer adds pressure relief.

Cons
8.1
Stomach Sleeping
  • 8.2
    Light Weight
  • 8.0
    Average Weight
  • 8.0
    Heavy Weight

The Avocado Green is great for stomach sleeping. Its great support for most people keeps your hips from sinking and prevents your back from arching, which is important for comfortable stomach sleeping. The enveloping latex layer helps cushion pressure points like your knees and hips.

Pros
  • Impressive support for most people.

  • Highly contouring, envelopn comfort layer adds pressure relief.

Cons
8.1
Longevity

The Avocado Green is a durable mattress. The latex comfort layer is the only foam in the mattress, and it's made of dense, good-quality latex that will resist forming impressions and indentations for longer.

Pros
  • Contains good-quality, durable latex.

Cons
7.6
Pressure Relief

The Avocado Green offers good pressure relief for most people. It offers good or excellent body conformity for average-weight and heavier people, who will sink deeply into its latex layer and a little into the pocket coil layer, which is softer at the head and foot of the mattress. The comfort layer allows a lot of sinking and has a hugging feel, which also helps add pressure relief. However, lighter people won't sink into it as much and will ideally want a bit more pressure relief for side sleeping.

Pros
  • Impressive body conformity for average-weight people.

  • Excellent body conformity for heavier people.

  • Good body conformity for many side sleepers.

  • Highly contouring, envelopn comfort layer adds pressure relief.

Cons
  • Disappointing body conformity for lighter people.

8.1
Support

The Avocado Green is impressively supportive. No matter what weight category you're in, it does a great job of keeping your hips in line with the rest of your body. This makes it a good option for back and stomach sleeping, where strong support is particularly important for spinal alignment.

Pros
  • Impressive support for most people.

Cons
9.0
Cooling

The Avocado Green has fantastic cooling. It's a suitable option for hot sleepers, since it has a refreshing feel when you first get into bed and does an even better job of moving heat away from you overnight. This makes it ideal for people who often wake up later in the night feeling overheated and want a mattress that won't heat up as they sleep.

Pros
  • Dissipates heat efficiently enough for hot sleepers.

Cons
8.3
Motion Dissipation

The Avocado Green has great motion dissipation, so it's a good option for couples. You'll mostly feel bigger movements, like your partner rolling over or getting into bed. Motion is mostly felt near the source, not all over the mattress, and dissipates quickly near where it originates. However, if your partner rolls over, it can make the mattress wobble slightly further away from the source, such as the head/foot of the bed. This makes the biggest movements more likely to disturb you.

Pros
  • You won't feel smaller movements.

  • Movements are mostly felt near the source.

Cons
  • Bigger movements dissipate somewhat slowly.

8.7
Responsiveness

The Avocado Green is very responsive. The latex comfort layer responds quickly when you move, and it's very bouncy overall, so it feels easy to move around on and you won't feel stuck in place.

Pros
  • Very bouncy, so movements feel supported.

  • Resilient latex comfort layer responds quickly, so you don't feel stuck in place.

It's also available in Extra Plush and Extra Firm variants, which you'll find listed as separate products on Avocado's website. Popular Mattress Comparisons

The Avocado Green is a firm latex mattress with good body conformity and a contouring latex comfort layer that give it a more enveloping feel than some similar mattresses like the Saatva Latex Hybrid and Sleep On Latex Hybrid. This makes it a better option for average-weight and heavier side and combination sleepers, as well as back and stomach sleepers who need great support but prefer a more enveloping feel. It also offers better cooling, especially when you first get into bed, so it's a good option for hot sleepers who want a cool feel as they fall asleep. It's also very durable, although its comfort layer doesn't quite meet the standard for high-quality foam, unlike other latex mattresses like the Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic or Sleep On Latex Hybrid.

    Saatva Latex Hybrid

    Track

The Avocado Green is better than the Saatva Latex Hybrid for most people. The Avocado's more enveloping sleeping surface provides better pressure relief, and it also offers better support for heavier people. It also does a better job of preventing you from feeling your partner's movements, and offers better cooling, particularly when you first get into bed.

    Purple Mattress

    Track

The Avocado Green is better than the Purple Mattress for most people. Its better support and pressure relief makes it a more versatile mattress with a comfortable feel for a wider range of sleepers. It offers better motion isolation for couples and includes more durable latex. However, Purple's outstanding cooling performance makes it worth considering for hot sleepers looking for the best heat dissipation.

Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic

    Track

The Avocado Green mattress is better than the Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic for most people. The Avocado's more enveloping feel helps it offer better pressure relief, so it does a better job of cushioning pressure points and works for a wider range of side sleepers. It's more cooling and does a better job of preventing you from feeling your partner's movements. However, you might prefer the Sleep On Latex if you want a less enveloping mattress that you sleep 'on' instead of 'in'. Its high-quality latex layers also make it more durable.

    Sleep On Latex Hybrid

    Track

The Sleep On Latex Hybrid and Avocado Green have different strengths. The Sleep On Latex is firmer and less enveloping, so you might prefer it if you want to sleep 'on' and not 'in' your mattress. It also offers better support and does a better job of keeping your spine aligned, so stomach sleepers may prefer it. You might prefer it if you sleep lightly, since it offers better motion isolation. However, it's not as versatile as the Avocado Green, which offers much more pressure relief, making it more suitable for many side and combination sleepers.

    Firm (67 Pa/mm)

The Avocado Green has a Firm feel overall, with a slightly firmer feel in the lumbar area meant to add support for your hips. The enveloping latex comfort layer helps it provide sufficient pressure relief for average-weight or heavier side sleepers, and its impressive support for most people makes it suitable for back and stomach sleepers of any weight.

    Indent @ 110 kg (242 lb)
    81 mm (3.2")

This mattress's body conformity depends on your weight. It offers good conformity for average-weight people and excellent conformity for heavier people, who will fully compress its latex comfort layer and sink into the spring layer, which is softer in the arm/shoulder area. However, like most Firm mattresses, it has sub-par performance for lighter people, who won't engage the spring layer and won't get enough pressure relief for side sleeping.

This mattress offers impressive support for most people, regardless of weight. The lumbar area has a firmer feel, which helps keep your hips from sinking out of alignment with your legs and shoulders. This helps make it a good option for most back/stomach sleepers in particular.

    9.1
    Bounciness
    Maximum Rebound Height
    31.0 cm (12.2")

The pocket coil and latex layer give the mattress a very bouncy feel. It seems to push back against your movements, making it feel easier to move around and change sleeping positions.

The mattress has a very enveloping feel. You'll sink deeply into its sleeping surface compared with other Firm latex mattresses like the Saatva Latex Hybrid. The latex comfort layer is also very contouring, so it molds around you and provides a hugging feel.

    8.6
    Responsiveness
    Response Time
    0.7 s

It's very responsive, so it responds quickly when you move. This helps prevent you from feeling stuck in place or constricted despite its enveloping feel.

It offers great motion isolation. You'll mostly feel larger movements, and they are mostly felt near the source, not all over the mattress. Motion also dissipates quickly near the source, but slower further away, so bigger movements, like someone getting into bed, can make the mattress wobble or bounce slightly at the head and foot.

The lumbar area and edges at the head and foot of the mattress use 14-gauge coils for support. On either side, narrower (and firmer) 15-gauge coils provide edge support.

According to the manufacturer, the head and leg area of the support layer also uses 15-gauge coils, which otherwise have the same specifications as the 14-gauge coils in the middle of the mattress, and that are therefore softer because of the thinner wire. Finally, there are 16-gauge coils nestled between the other coils throughout the mattress. These are the softest coils in the mattress, and according to Avocado, help prevent the difference in spring stiffness at the lumbar and head/foot from creating a noticeable hard edge.
