The Samsung QN90D and the Sony BRAVIA 7 are similar TVs overall, but there are some differences. The Samsung has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four ports as opposed to the two on the Sony, so it's more versatile if you own multiple high-bandwidth devices. The Samsung also supports up to 4k @ 144Hz, whereas the Sony is limited to 4k @ 120Hz, so it's better if you have a PC with a high-end graphics card. However, the Sony is more accurate in both SDR and HDR, so it's the better option if you care about the content creator's intent. The Sony also has the edge when it comes to image processing, so low-resolution and low-quality content looks better on it. Finally, the Sony supports Dolby Vision and DTS audio, so it's better for those looking to get the most out of their 4k Blu-ray collection.

Just for fun, it’s October 14 2025… anyone considering the 2025 QN90F, qn90F, or even the lg qned92a needs to do this comparison against the Bravia 7! I just went back and compared the QN90D (which is better than the qn90F imo) and the Bravia 7 beats it most categories that really matter! (Except reflections!). I didn’t realize the Bravia 7 with less dimming zones and slightly less brightness in some categories, scores better in areas of color, upscaling (big time), low quality content, SDR color, zone transitions, etc.
Plus, consider the Bravia 7 comes with Dolby vision, imax enhanced, DTS-X, atsc 3.0, and often overlooked, free credits for Sony pictures core (based on the $$ difference in the Bravia 8 and Xrb8 - costs around $400), it’s my opinion that getting the Bravia 7 is the better value. The 85” is still around $2499 on sale but the 75” has been as low as $1799. Personally, for anyone shopping for a miniLed 75-85”, start with the Bravia 7, then maybe the QN90D (if reflections and slight brightness plus 144hz). I believe if you can get those on a good deal, they will be better than the qn70f, Qn80F, QN90F, Bravia 5, Hisense U6, tcl QM6K, QM7K, Qned85A/92A, etc. these are just my opinions and I think I’ve heard of some issues on the Bravia 7 but I believe they’ve been fixed with firmware updates.
Hopefully this helps someone not waste $2700 on an 85”QN90F when they could get better quality and performance out of the Bravia 7 for less.

Also thank you for confirming I’m comparing the right numbers. I’ve been waffling between returning my QN90D for a Bravia 7 because I originally thought the HDR Gaming brightness was so much better but it doesn’t sound like it is. For now I’ll take the better reflections and viewing angle since my wife likes to watch me game at off angles in a room with some bright lights behind us.
You’re comparing scores between products that aren’t on the same methodology, which you can’t do. With test bench 2.0 we’ve completely reworked our scoring, making it impossible to directly compare the scores with products that haven’t been updated. The test results are still comparable, and the BRAVIA 7 will eventually be updated to 2.0, making it possible to directly compare the scores again. Yes, that’s the correct comparison for HDR Brightness in Game mode.
I have a couple questions
1) You rate the Sony as 9.2 and the Samsung as an 8.5 for input lag. But if I look at the individual scores the Samsung beats the Sony on everything? What am I missing here?
2) The HDR Gaming brightness for the Samsung lists a few different variations, with the last being below with Game HDR Advanced turned on

Am I correct to compare this to the following values for the Sony, as long as I have the Game HDR Advanced on for the Samsung?

You have to understand that Rtings puts way too much weight on viewing angle and reflections, 40%, Again, 40% !!!!! All designed to give Oleds, mainly LG and Samsung, the highest scores. Most Bravia 7 video reviews show the B7 off angle to be very good. Especially in HDR. Of course they were tested to around 70 degrees. The QN90D washed out the same exact way at 70-80, exactly the same. And the same as most other LEDs in BB. I went with a group of 5 to BB, we looked over both TV’s and off angle was good on both, definitely not worthy of the 5 and 6 scores give by Rtings. And yes, on most forums, they call Rtings out for this frequently and tell all to not take any overall score seriously, and to let your eyes make the decision, not their numbers. I do like the ratings, and individual scores mostly, all except viewing angle and reflections. For example, Rtings give the B9 a decent viewing angle score, but many returned it due to the rainbow smear across the entire screen. The B7 wins all day long against the QN90D. Disregard the TV Show and Sports overall numbers as they are simply dropped by Rtings putting 40% weight on the 2 items. They know this will knock Sony and LED’s down. They should put much more weight on upscaling a smoothing, where all would drop and Sony would rise. But Rtings does not wan this to happen, so they do not. So, I like Rtings, just not their weighting and overall scores for some TV’s, almost always, Sony.
Hey there. Our ‘TV Shows’ score is based on numerous different test results like SDR brightness, reflections, viewing angle, upscaling, etc. The Bravia 7’s score in that category is brought down quite a bit by its reflections score. I’m curious as to why the qn90d gets a much higher score for tv watching when the bravia 7 is so much better at upscaling.
