The Plank Luxe is an upper mid-range, flippable hybrid mattress with one 'Firm' and one 'Extra Firm' side. The Plank Firm Luxe, or the Firm side of the mattress, has a thicker quilted layer and a somewhat plusher feel, as well as a polyfoam comfort layer that adds contouring. A layer of pocket coils in the center of the mattress provides support for both sleeping surfaces. The foam in the mattress has GREENGUARD Gold Certified and CertiPUR-US certifications, meaning it doesn't include chemicals such as formaldehyde.
We separately tested the 'Extra Firm' side of the mattress, and you can see those results in our review of the Plank Extra Firm Luxe.

7.7Heavy Weight
The Plank Firm Luxe isn't well-suited for most side sleepers. It does offer very good body conformity for heavier individuals, which makes it a good choice for side sleepers in that weight category, especially if you generally prefer a firmer feel. However, although the 'Firm' side is more conforming than the 'Extra Firm' side, it's not enough to relieve pressure for light or average-weight side sleepers. If you're a side sleeper in that weight category, it'll put uncomfortable pressure on your arm and shoulder.
Good body conformity for heavier people.
Poor body conformity for lighter people.
Medicore body conformity for average-weight people.

6.9Heavy Weight
The Plank Firm Luxe is best suited for lighter and average-weight back sleepers. It offers enough support to prevent your hips from sinking in, so your spine stays aligned. It's also decently supportive for heavier individuals, so it's well-suited for back sleepers in that weight category as well. However, it's not an enveloping mattress. The contouring sleeping surface helps with pressure relief, but you might prefer a mattress with a slightly plusher feel, even for back sleeping.
Great support for lighter people.
Good support for average-weight people.
Decent support for heavier people.
Contouring sleeping surface adds pressure relief.

The Plank Firm Luxe is best for lighter and average-weight stomach sleepers. It offers the best support for people in those weight categories, which is important to keep your back from arching. It also offers satisfactory support for heavier people, but you might want a more supportive mattress if you usually sleep on your stomach.
Great support for lighter people.
Good support for average-weight people.
Heavier people may need more support for stomach sleeping.
The Plank Firm Luxe is moderately durable. The layers that make up the 'Firm' side of the mattress are mostly made of good-quality foam. The upper comfort layer is made of very dense, high-quality polyfoam, which will help the 'Firm' side resist forming permanent indentations for longer. That said, the foam in the quilted top is of lower quality and may start to show signs of wear sooner.
Uses mostly good-quality, more durable foam.
The Plank Firm Luxe offers mediocre pressure relief. You won't sink very much into it overall, and it doesn't have good body conformity for lighter or average-weight people, so it's not comfortable for side sleeping. That said, it offers good pressure relief for heavier side sleepers. The sleeping surface is also very contouring, which helps add pressure relief.
Good body conformity for heavier people.
Contouring sleeping surface adds pressure relief.
Poor body conformity for lighter people.
Medicore body conformity for average-weight people.
The Plank Firm Luxe is quite supportive for most people. It offers impressive support for lighter people and good support for average-weight people, so it'll prevent the heavier parts of your body from sinking in too far if you sleep on your back or stomach. While its support for people in the heavier weight category isn't quite as good, it's still decent, so it's suitable for back sleeping.
Good support for average-weight people.
Decent support for heavier people.
Heavier people may need more support for stomach sleeping.
The Plank Firm Luxe has a good cooling performance. It doesn't feel particularly cool during the first hour you're in bed, but it dissipates heat a bit more efficiently over eight hours. It's not ideal for hot sleepers, particularly if heat usually bothers you as you're falling asleep. However, it's cooling enough to keep most people comfortable.
Good cooling.
Not cooling enough for hot sleepers.
The Plank Firm Luxe has an excellent motion dissipation performance. You'll only feel movements near the source, not all over the mattress, and you may not feel smaller movements at all. Motion dissipates decently quickly, but with some bigger movements, you might feel like the mattress wobbles for a moment afterwards.
Excellent motion isolation so you don't feel most movements.
The Plank Firm Luxe is very responsive. The sleeping surface responds very quickly when you move, so you won't feel stuck in place. The mattress is also very bouncy, which also helps make it feel easier to change sleeping positions.
Highly responsive, so you won't feel stuck in place.

Popular Mattress Comparisons
The Plank Firm Luxe is the 'Firm' side of the flippable Plank Luxe mattress, which also has an 'Extra Firm' side. This review is for the 'Firm' side of the mattress, and you can see the results for the other side in our review of the Plank Extra Firm Luxe. The 'Firm' side offers solid support for lighter and average-weight back and stomach sleepers, and is also well-suited for heavier side sleepers, especially if you sometimes sleep on your back or stomach or just prefer a less enveloping feel. The 'Extra Firm' side offers slightly better support for lighter and average-weight people, but it's not significantly more supportive. Some Firm mattresses like the Saatva Latex Hybrid or the Bear Elite Hybrid offer better support and more pressure relief.
The Plank Firm Luxe also stands out for its excellent motion isolation. Despite its springy feel, you won't feel most movements, so you might like it for sleeping with a partner, especially compared to some similar mattresses, like the Saatva or Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic.

The Bear Elite Hybrid and Plank Firm Luxe have different strengths. The Bear is better for average-weight back and stomach sleepers, since it offers better support and pressure relief for people in that category. The Plank offers better support for heavier back/stomach sleepers, and you can flip it over and use its 'Extra Firm' side. The Plank also offers better motion isolation, so you may prefer it if you sleep with a partner.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is better for most people than the Plank Firm Luxe. Both are Firm mattresses well-suited for back/stomach sleeping, but the Saatva is slightly more supportive for heavier people and offers better pressure relief overall. It's also much more cooling and includes more durable foam. That said, the Plank is still a good option for back/stomach sleepers, particularly people in the light or average-weight categories. It offers significantly better motion isolation. Its double-sided design allows you to flip it over for an even firmer feel, as well.
The Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic and the Plank Firm Luxe have different strengths. Both are Firm mattresses well-suited for back/stomach sleeping, but the Sleep On Latex is more supportive regardless of your weight. It's made of more durable materials and is much more cooling. That said, the Plank Firm has a plusher feel that makes it better for side sleepers in the heavier weight category. You might also prefer it if you sleep with a partner because of its significantly better motion isolation. The Plank is also a flippable mattress, so you have the option to use the 'Extra Firm' side.
You might prefer either the Casper Snow or Plank Firm Luxe. The Plank is firm and supportive, making it a good option for many back/stomach sleepers, especially because it's flippable, and the other side has an even firmer feel. Its much more responsive feel makes it easier to move around on, and its edges are much sturdier. The Casper's enveloping comfort layers give it a much better pressure relief performance, so it's more suitable for side sleeping or back/stomach sleepers who want a plusher feel. It's also much more cooling.
Test Results
This hybrid mattress is 34.9 cm (13.7") tall, so you can use standard fitted sheets.
The Plank Firm Luxe is a Firm mattress with one 'Firm' side and one 'Extra Firm' side. The 'Firm' side is supportive enough for lighter and average-weight back and stomach sleepers. It's also decently supportive for heavier people, making it a good option for back sleeping and side sleeping for people in that weight category.
You can see the results for the other side of the mattress in our review of the Plank Extra Firm Luxe.
It's not a very conforming mattress for most people. If you're in the lighter weight category, it has poor conformity and will put a lot of pressure on your shoulder if you're a side sleeper. Its performance is better for average-weight people, but still mediocre, and it's not ideal for side sleepers in that weight category either. It offers good body conformity for heavier people, who will sink a little into the comfort layer. It's a reasonable option for side sleepers in that weight category, especially if you're looking for a more supportive mattress.
This mattress is quite supportive for most people. It's most supportive for people in the lighter weight category, offering impressive support, which makes it a good option for stomach and back sleeping. It also offers good support for average-weight people and decent support for heavier people, so it's supportive enough for back/stomach sleepers in those weight categories as well. However, if you're a heavier stomach sleeper, you might want a mattress that offers better support for proper spinal alignment, such as the Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic.
This mattress has a very bouncy feel. Your movements feel supported, so it's easy to move around on, and you won't feel stuck in place.
The comfort layers aren't very enveloping. As you might expect for a Firm mattress, you won't sink into it much overall, and it will feel like you're sleeping 'on' your mattress and not 'in' it. The sleeping surface is very contouring, so it molds around you, which helps with pressure relief.
It's an extremely responsive mattress. The sleeping surface bounces back quickly after you move, so you won't feel hugged or stuck in place.
It offers excellent motion isolation. You won't feel most smaller movements, like a pet jumping onto the foot of the bed. Larger movements, like your partner rolling over, are only felt near the source. Motion dissipates faster on some mattresses, but still, it's a great option if you sleep with a partner.
It has fantastic edge support. The edges are reinforced with pocket coils and are difficult to compress, so you won't sink much when you sit or sleep on the side of the mattress. They compress very evenly as well, so when you sit on the side of the bed, they don't form a very steep ramp. This increases the comfortable sleeping surface and gives you a solid surface for getting in and out of bed.
It has good cooling. It feels decently cool when you first get into bed and dissipates heat a bit more efficiently overnight. It's not ideal for hot sleepers, especially if you usually feel overheated as you're falling asleep, but it's cooling enough to keep most people comfortable.
The manufacturer doesn't disclose what material the cover is made of. This mattress has the standard cover, but the Plank Firm Luxe is also available with GlacioTex Cooling Cover, which would be sewn onto the other, 'Extra Firm,' side of the mattress.
The edges are reinforced with pocket coils, which help provide its outstanding edge support.
The quilted top includes a layer of fiberfill and two identical layers of medium-soft polyfoam. The upper comfort layer is also polyfoam. It has a much firmer feel but also has some characteristics more typical of memory foam, like high density and lower resilience. This helps give the 'Firm' side of the mattress a highly contouring feel. The transition layer below is made of more resilient polyfoam and helps add support and distribute your weight over the spring layer.
This mattress contains mostly good-quality foam, including the transition layer and upper comfort layer. The comfort layer in particular is dense enough to be considered high-quality polyfoam. The polyfoam in the quilted layer is of lower quality, however, and may start to form permanent indentations sooner.
The quilted layer is about 5.0 cm (2.0") and includes 1.4 cm of fiberfill between 1.8 cm layers of polyfoam. This is the mattress's only 'soft' layer, and most people won't sink past it.
The 2.5 cm (1.0") polyfoam comfort layer is much firmer, which helps explain the mattress's weaker pressure relief performance for light and average-weight people, since you'll feel like you're hitting a solid surface under the quilted top. The layer is followed by a 5.0 cm (2.0") transition layer, which is also very firm and helps distribute your weight over the springs.
Pocket coils make up the support layer, which is in the middle of the mattress because of its double-sided design. The individually wrapped design of the springs helps improve motion isolation, and the thicker 13-gauge coils help give the layer its very firm feel.
The quilted layer has medium firmness, so you'll sink into it quite easily, and it helps add pressure relief. You'll likely compress it fully and also feel the firm upper comfort layer below. The transition layer is much firmer, which prevents you from sinking in very much, and helps distribute your weight over the springs.
The pocket coil layer adds support, whether you're using the 'Firm' or 'Extra Firm' side of the mattress. It's very stiff, which helps support the heavier parts of your body, like your hips.
The foam in the quilted top is very resilient, so it has a springy feel that contributes to the mattress's responsive feel. The comfort layer polyfoam is much less bouncy, similar to some memory foams, like the Winkbeds Plus's comfort layer. This may help add some contouring. The very firm transition layer is also very resilient, so it seems to 'push back' against your movements.
The springs are bouncy, and combined with the springy foam layers, they give the mattress a very bouncy feel. This makes it feel easier to move around on, as it pushes back against your movements.
