ASICS SUPERBLAST 2
ASICS MEGABLAST
The ASICS SUPERBLAST 2 and ASICS MEGABLAST are both unplated maximalist trainers, but they lean in different directions. The SUPERBLAST 2 is designed as a long-distance cruiser with a firmer feel and a more tapered platform that makes it roll more smoothly over steady miles. For example, the SUPERBLAST 2's rocker is stiffer, which helps you keep your heel-to-toe transitions consistent as the miles pile up. The MEGABLAST, by contrast, aims to be a do-it-all trainer, combining max cushioning with a lively ride that feels bouncier and more playful. It is lighter on the scale but sits on a consistently wide platform that gives it a broad footprint, more reminiscent of a cushioned daily trainer like the GEL-NIMBUS 27. That geometry makes it feel less streamlined and agile than the SUPERBLAST 2, despite the lighter weight.

Hello! That’s a valid point. If you look strictly at our cushioning and energy return results, the ASICS MEGABLAST can absolutely look like the more attractive long-run option, and for a lot of runners it can actually be. The main reason we still slot the ASICS SUPERBLAST 2 as the best for long runs pick is more about how the shoe geometry works for when the distance piles up. The SUPERBLAST 2 is a bit firmer and uses a stiffer, more guided rocker with a slightly more tapered platform, which makes the heel-to-toe transition feel more consistent over long miles. Softer, more compliant rockers like the MEGABLAST tend to deform and effectively “flatten” more under load, so the transition can feel a little less guided later in the run, especially when your mechanics start to get sloppy. We’re actively working on a way to measure geometry effects more directly (rocker shape, rocker stiffness, bending stiffness, heel bevel, etc.), but across a lot of shoes, that smoother roll tends to show up with stiffer rocker designs. The SUPERBLAST 2 also feels a bit more stable, which can be a benefit when your legs are tired.
That said, if you generally prefer a softer, bouncier ride for long runs, it makes total sense to lean MEGABLAST. A good way to frame it: if you want one ASICS shoe to cover most of your training and still handle weekend long runs really well, the MEGABLAST is the more versatile pick. If you want a more specialized long-run tool that stays smooth and controlled when you add pace variations, the SUPERBLAST 2 can still have the edge.
Hope that helps, and don’t hesitate if you have any questions!
RTINGS put Superblast 2 as the best shoe for long runs, but what’s the benefit compared to the Megablast? For me, when looking at the stats, I find the Megablast more attractive with both more cushioning and higher energy return.
