LG C5 OLED
Samsung S90F OLED
The LG C5 OLED and the Samsung S90F OLED trade blows. They're about equally as bright in most HDR content, although the S90F is a bit brighter in Game Mode. In SDR, however, the C5 is way brighter. The S90F does handle direct reflections better, but the C5's black levels barely raise in bright environments, while the S90F's blacks become charcoal gray in the same context. The S90F's QD-OLED panel is far more colorful than the C5's WOLED panel, which is expected. They're about equally as good for gaming, although the C5's Dolby Vision support does give it the slight edge for Xbox gamers.

Unfortunately, no, we haven’t reviewed the WOLED versions of these TVs. There are no 83-inch QD-OLED panels, so we expect the S90F to perform much closer to the C5 in that size.
Is there any chance you have compared these two TVs in the 83 inch versions specifically. Since the S90F uses WOLED instead of the QD-OLED. The QD was a selling point for the better color, but if the 83 inch isn’t using it, all of the reviews I can find for it are pretty much useless. Any help would be really appreciated.

Having the most difficult time trying to make up my mind between these two models…
I’m torn between the 42-inch LG C5 and the 42-inch Samsung S90F to use as a PC monitor. I know that at 42 inches, the Samsung also uses the WOLED panel (not QD-OLED), so the hardware should be very similar to the LG.
My usage will be mainly Single Player gaming (immersion focus) and a lot of desktop usage/web browsing, plus watching YouTube/streaming content (sometimes low bitrate/720p/1080p).
My main concern is artifact handling in dark scenes. On my previous OLED monitor, I hated the “near-black chrominance overshoot” (flashing blocks/artifacts in dark areas).
Which one would you recommend considering:
Low-bitrate content handling: Which TV has better processing/upscaling for cleaning up bad quality videos (720p) and removing color banding?
Dark scene handling: Which one is cleaner and suffers less from macroblocking/dithering noise in the shadows?
Game Mode Dimming: Is the LG C5 still too dim in Game Mode compared to the Samsung, or has it improved?
Thanks for your help!
I double checked our unit running the latest available OTA update: 33.21.67 and didn’t see any changes from our current measurements in our review. Hopefully this helps and thank you for reaching out!
Does anybody know if the C5 still loses a significant amount of brightness in game mode? I’ve read online that some people are saying it has been patched with a firmware update. Can anyone confirm this?
