Our Verdict

Samsung Q80/Q80R QLED

Samsung Q80/Q80T QLED

The Samsung Q80T and the Samsung Q80R are very similar TVs in many respects. The Q80R can get much brighter in HDR, its local dimming performs better, and it has a higher contrast ratio. On the other hand, the Q80T has better color accuracy, a faster response time, and a lower input lag, which is good news for gamers. Both TVs have a 120Hz refresh rate and support VRR to reduce screen tearing when gaming.

I have both the Q80r and Q80T. I believe they are much farther apart than the review suggests. We all know that the Q80R is obviously brighter but to me the 80R has way better picture quality. Colors pop more and hdr content shines. I am spoiled when I go from the 80R to the 80T. I have increased the mid panel brightness of the 80T but it makes the picture washed out looking. SDR content is pretty equal though on both. Considering replacing 80T with the qn90d, or moving the q80r to the bedroom and getting the new s90F in my main tv room.
