Our Verdict

Keychron Q Pro Series [Q1 Pro, Q2 Pro, etc.]

Keychron Q5 Max [Q1 Max, Q2 Max, etc.]

The Keychron Q5 Pro and the Keychron Q5 Max are wireless mechanical keyboards with 96% form factors. Each keyboard belongs to a wider lineup of Q Pro and Q Max keyboards, respectively. The standout difference between these two lineups is that the Q Pro connects wirelessly via Bluetooth while the Q Max connects wirelessly via Bluetooth or a 2.4 GHz receiver, providing better wireless performance. The Q Max also has several more layers of acoustic material inside the case, providing a slightly rounder, less pingy sound profile.

I’m curious as to why you recommend OLEDs for gaming. OLEDs are notorious for burn-in with static images, and games are notorious for having static elements to them. Crosshairs, health bars, ammo counts, quick-slot bars…almost every single part of a UI is going to be static and risk burn-in for any length of time, isn’t it?

    Hello,

This is a great question! You’re right that burn-in is a concern even for gaming, but burn-in only happens with constant exposure to the same static elements over time - so even if you have crosshairs or other UI elements on the screen while gaming, it really needs to stay there for multiple hours multiple days in a row (without changing screens) to have a true impact on burn-in. OLEDs certainly aren’t perfect, as this is one downside, but the pros outweigh the cons, as they also have perfect blacks and a near-instantaneous response time, both of which are beneficial for gaming. Considering the current state of the gaming monitor market, OLEDs are still the best options in terms of gaming performance and picture quality, despite the fact that they risk burn-in.

  4. Update: Removed the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx because it’s hard to find; removed the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85 as ‘Best For Console Gaming’ because it isn’t related to the scope of this article; added the Dell Alienware AW2724DM and Gigabyte M27Q P to Notable Mentions.

Why not consider the Dell G2724D? I know it lacks some features like USB ports and BFI, but overall, it produces better images for the same or less money than the LG 27GP850-B or the Gigabyte M27U.

Hey! You make a good point that it’s an excellent option, and we do actually mention it as an alternative to the ViewSonic, which you can see here. For most gamers, the higher refresh rate on the ViewSonic is better, but if you want a higher resolution, then go for the Dell.

interesting, I came up to the same conclusion today, then I saw your comment ;) will buy it today probably, still using my old 2018 Dell S2716

  9. Update: Replaced the Dell Alienware AW3423DW with the Dell Alienware AW3225QF because the AW3225QF is better overall; updated Notable Mentions based on current market availability and performance by adding the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85, AOC Q27G3XMN, MSI MEG 342C QD-OLED, and LG 32GR93U-B.

I think this should be updated with the new monitors coming out and also the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM as I think this is the better choice over the Alienware.

We currently only recommend monitors that we’ve bought and tested, but the ASUS recently won our Suggestion Poll so we’ll be testing that once we receive it! That said, we can’t make any promises as to when we’re going to be able to update this recommendation again as we currently have limited writing resources because we’re working on a new test bench methodology. Stay tuned in this thread for any updates :)

  12. Update: Replaced the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM with the Dell Alienware AW2725DF because the Dell has a higher refresh rate. Replaced the LG 27GR93U-B with the Acer Nitro XV275K P3biipruzx because the Acer has better picture quality. Replaced the LG 27GP850-B/27GP83B-B with the Dell Alienware AW2724DM for consistency with other recommendations. Updated the Notable Mentions based on changes and market availability.

I’m really struggling with your top pick. Is there a monitor that is out there, that has 4K resolution, fast response that is not curved? I think you should do a carve out in your review as curved is such a polarizing feature. Best gaming monitor, with a side pick of a flat one. The other alienware @1440 resolution should be called out for the low resolution.

Hey, thanks for pointing that out! I understand curved screens aren’t for everyone, and there are other QD-OLEDs with the same 4k resolution and 240Hz refresh rate that are flat, like the ASUS PG32UCDM and the Samsung OLED G80SD. That said, we haven’t tested those yet, so we can’t recommend them, but they also cost more than the Dell.

That raises an interesting point. Is there a ceiling in terms of cost that you look at at rtings? When you say best, I assume that price isn’t too much of an issue, as there is a mid and then budget top pick / review…

Good question and great point. While there isn’t a price ceiling for what we consider best, it is something to consider between two monitors who perform the same. For example, if two QD-OLEDs perform the same and have similar features, then there’s more value in getting the cheaper monitor.

It depends, for example, I’d spend a few buck more to not have the enormous and questionably designed plastic housing on the back of Alienware.

  18. Update: Replaced the Dell Alienware AW2724DM with the AOC Q27G3XMN because the AOC is available again, and moved the Dell to Notable Mentions. Replaced the ViewSonic XG2431 with the Dell G2724D for consistency with other recommendations. Removed the ‘Best Cheap’ category with the ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q1A as it’s close in price to the Dell.

I always wonder what kind of hardware people have to drive these monitors. I know with my 7800x3d/4090 setup I can barely get 360 fps with most games at 1080p on a dell AW2724HF

It’d be nice to see an Ultra-Wide (only) Section either in the guide, or a check box in the spec table. Not all the 34" are ultra-wide so filtering them one by one is a pain and I feel like I am overlooking.

Could you consider adding additional testing parameters? There are reports about noisy fans in some of the newer monitors, so “fan: yes/no” or “noise level” would be useful information. Also, i’ve heard that some of these new OLEDs use soft panels which are easily scratchable during cleaning - it would be nice to tell us about that too.

Dude, 99.999% of gamers aren’t competitive gamers, even if you think you are - you don’t need to mimick every thing “esport influencers” do.

99.999% of gamers aren’t competitive gamers

Why, any evidence? Just simple count. There are total 30 millions steam users online in last 24 hours. And there are ~3 millions of them playing online competitively (CSgo, Dota, PUBG, TF). So why 99% but not 90%?

you don’t need to mimick “esport influencers”

Err… I never said mimicking would help. I have LG 165hz ultragear monitor. I wanted to say RTINGS should make some statement. Like “prob you gonna suck competing with monitor from our list, bc here’s what pro players think prosettings.net/gear/lists/monitors/” I meant, it just worth noticing. Or add a category “best competitive gaming monitor”.

Unless you are actually playing for money as a profession -> you don’t need to obey by the same rules and can use better monitor than those BENQ/ZOWIE you mention.

Thanks for the suggestion! While we do our best consider suggestions we get from users, we can’t really make any guarantees. It’s a fair point though, and I can see how it might be useful. So, we’ll be sure to keep in mind as we consider updates in the future!

You have a good point, but we take many factors into consideration, including the fact that non-competitive gamers are also looking at this recommendation. That said, it’s something we’ll consider in the future :)

When is the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8/G80SD S32DG80 going to be taken into account?

When is the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8/G80SD S32DG80 going to be taken into account?

When we next update the recommendation we’ll reconsider whether the Dell AW3225QF should remain the top pick or if it should be the Samsung. That said, the Samsung is still a great choice, especially if you want to game with it in a bright room due to its matte screen coating!

  31. Update: We replaced the Dell Alienware AW3225QF with the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8/G80SD S32DG80 as the Samsung dropped in price. We also replaced the Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q3 with the Dell Alienware AW2725DF because the Gigabyte is out of stock. In Notable Mentions, we replaced the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85 and the Gigabyte GS27QC with the LG 32GS95UE-B, ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG, and the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6/G60SD S27DG60 to be more representative of the current gaming market.

Just curious on why the Samsung was chosen over the MSI? It seems like they’re very close (like all of these QD-OLEDs), but the MSI has a couple of measures that are slightly better, while being cheaper. The MSI has the better color accuracy and the best VRR flicker of all of the new OLEDs. Also, while it might be a small difference for some, the MSI has a 3.5mm out.

Hey! You make good points but it seems like the MSI is hard to find right now - it’s even sold out at Best Buy. We take things like availability into account with our recommendations :)

    Hi

I am following your review for long time and got confused. I have Samsung Odyssey OLED G6/G60SD S27DG60, Dell Alienware AW2725DF, Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q3 and MSI MPG 271QRX QD-OLED avialable for the same price. I play only one game Warzone on PC and looking for best monitor for that. Lately these monitors were moved in the rank so many times. I have read plenty reviews and now I am not sure what to buy. Any big advantages of any of them?

    Thanks Daniel

Fair enough. Just watched the video you posted and I noticed that you mentioned the matte coating as a benefit over the others when in a bright room, but the MSI also seems to be better in that category, at least just based on the numbers. Was it the “no purple tint” that was enough to outweigh the small difference in reflections?
