Our Verdict
HP Victus 16 (2024)
MSI Katana 15 HX (2025)
The MSI Katana 15 HX (2025) and the HP Victus 16 (2024) are both affordable gaming laptops sold in a wide range of configurations. The MSI has newer RTX 50-series GPUs up to an RTX 5070, while the HP tops out at an RTX 4070. The MSI's Intel HX processors are more powerful in CPU-heavy work than the HP's Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 options. The HP has more display choices, including a 240Hz QHD panel for smoother motion, while the MSI's QHD panel covers a wider range of colors. The HP is the better everyday laptop: its battery lasts much longer with light use, its speakers sound much better, its keyboard is more comfortable, and it has a sharper 1080p webcam.
