Sony X77L/X77CL
Sony BRAVIA 3
The Sony BRAVIA 3 is better than the Sony X77L/X77CL. The BRAVIA 3 is the brighter of the two, especially in SDR, and has a much wider color gamut, giving it a more impactful viewing experience. Finally, the newer BRAVIA 3 also has better image processing, so it outpaces the X77L on almost every metric.

Hey there! Thanks for your question.
Please note that these TVs were tested a couple of years apart using different methodologies:
While the way we tested HDR Brightness didn’t change between these two methodologies, it impacted the way we scored HDR Brightness, HDR Brightness in Game Mode, and SDR Brightness. You can read more about our rationale and approach in our Test Bench 2.0 changelog, under the “Brightness” heading: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/changelogs/2-0#brightness
As such, while the Brightness scores may not provide a 100% comparison in this particular instance, we hope the details in their reviews give you what you need to make a decision based on your specific needs.
Hope this helps!
How is the Bravia 3 brighter across the board than the x77l but it scored lower than it in brightness?
