The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e/8035e is the replacement model of the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025/8028/8035. It has a low cost-per-print and comes with a six-month free ink subscription through HP Instant Ink. It's a well-built printer that produces decent-looking photos with good color accuracy. Unfortunately, it has a very low page yield, and it can't automatically scan double-sided documents. Note that this printer is hard to find at most retailers, as we purchased ours directly from HP's website.

While we tested the 8025e, there's also a variant called the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e that's nearly identical, except that it offers 12 months of ink subscription, and it's available in three different colors. We expect our test results to apply to both models.

Our Verdict

7.3 Family

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e is decent for family use. Color accuracy is good, but produced images look a little grainy. It has a very low cost-per-print for both black and color documents, and it's compatible with a decent mobile app. Also, it features a flatbed scanner and a sheetfed scanner, but unfortunately, it can't print directly off a USB thumb drive.

Pros
  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Good color accuracy.
  • Feels well-built.
Cons
  • Low black page yield.
  • Images look a bit grainy.
  • No port for USB thumb drive or SD card.
6.0 Small/Home Office

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e is mediocre for small or home offices. It has a low black page yield and a slow printing speed, and it can't automatically scan double-sided documents. On the other hand, it feels well-built and has a responsive display screen, and it offers many connectivity options. It also yields a good amount of color pages, depending on how much you print in color.

Pros
  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Feels well-built.
  • Many wireless connection options.
Cons
  • Low black page yield.
  • Fairly slow at printing black documents.
  • No duplex scanning.
6.8 Student

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e is okay for students. It has a low cost-per-print for both black and color documents, and it has a flatbed scanner and an automatic document feeder. Also, it offers a variety of wireless connection options, but unfortunately, it doesn't support Bluetooth or printing off a USB thumb drive. It's also slow at printing documents.

Pros
  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Feels well-built.
  • Many wireless connection options.
Cons
  • Low black page yield.
  • Doesn't support Bluetooth printing.
  • No port for USB thumb drive or SD card.
6.6 Black & White

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e is okay for black and white printing. It feels well-built and provides easy access to paper jams. Unfortunately, it prints black documents disappointingly slow, and it can't perform double-sided scans. While it has a low cost-per-print, the black page yield is very low, so you may need to replace the cartridges often if you print a lot. On the bright side, there are high-yield versions of the cartridges available.

Pros
  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Feels well-built.
Cons
  • Low black page yield.
  • Fairly slow at printing black documents.
7.5 Casual Photo

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e is good for casual photos thanks to its very low cost-per-print for photo printing. It's a well-built printer that produces decent-quality pictures with good color accuracy, but there's banding and graininess present in the images. Unfortunately, it can't print 2" by 3" photos.

Pros
  • Good cost-per-print.
  • Good color accuracy.
  • Feels well-built.
Cons
  • Images look a bit grainy.
  • Can't print 2" x 3" photos.
  • 7.3 Family
  • 6.0 Small/Home Office
  • 6.8 Student
  • 6.6 Black & White
  • 7.5 Casual Photo

Build & Design Quality

It has a sturdy plastic body and a good cartridge bay lid dampener that prevents the lid from slamming down. Its power cord is detachable, so it's easy to replace it if ever it gets damaged. Also, it provides easy access to paper jams. Unfortunately, the ink cartridges are only accessible when the printer is on. While the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e only comes in one color, its variant, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e, comes in three colors: Light Basalt, Oasis, and Coral.

It has a mediocre cartridge system. Its black page yield is very low, so you may need to replace the cartridges often, especially if you print a lot. On the other hand, the color cartridge should last you longer, depending on how much you print in color. Fortunately, there are high-yield cartridges available that should last you longer, though we haven't tested them.

It has great scanner features. It has a high-resolution flatbed scanner that's great for scanning fragile or thick items. It also has an automatic document feeder to easily process multi-page documents. Unfortunately, it can't perform duplex scanning, so you need to manually flip over every page of a double-sided document.

It has a good cost-per-print. The cost remains relatively low over time, but it may quickly add up if you print in color often. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e comes with an HP Instant Ink subscription, which offers six months of free ink delivered to your door. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e also comes with a subscription, but it offers 12 months of free ink.

Keep in mind that even if you print only in black, most inkjet printers continue using the color cartridges for servicing tasks, so you may still need to replace them eventually.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e has a variant called the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e, which is nearly identical, but it comes in three different colors and includes 12 months of free ink through the HP Instant Ink subscription program. While we only tested the 8025e, we expect our test results to apply to the 8035e as well. Both are replacements to the discontinued HP OfficeJet Pro 8025/8028/8035. You can see the label of our unit here.

Compared To Other Printers

Unfortunately, it doesn't have duplex scanning, and it's fairly slow at printing documents, which isn't ideal in an office setting.
